Abstract
We report herein a direct synthetic route for the preparation of 2-arylbenzothiazoles using aryl isothiocyanates and electron-rich arenes. The synthetic route involves triflic acid promoted addition of the arenes to aryl isothiocyanates followed by FeCl3-catalyzed C-S bond formation via C-H functionalization. The approach provides the advantage of synthesis of benzothiazoles without the conventional use of aryl aldehyde/carboxylic acid precursors employing the less expensive iron(III) catalyst.

Abstract
We have synthesized a novel, bis-bidentate, covalently anchored, 4,6-diacetyl resorcinol (DAR) ligand on silica-coated magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles and the corresponding bi-metallic iron(iii) complex (Fe3O4@SiO2-APTESFe2LDAR). Both the chemical nature and the structure of the homogeneously heterogenized catalyst were investigated using physico-chemical techniques. The results obtained by XPS, XRD, FT-IR, TGA, VSM, SEM, TEM, EDX, ICP and AAS revealed a magnetic core, a silica layer and the grafting of a binuclear iron complex on the Fe3O4@SiO2-APTES, as well as its thermodynamic stability. Despite many reports of metal complexes on different supports, there are no reports of anchored, bi-metallic complexes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a bi-active site catalyst covalently attached to a support. This study focuses on the catalytic activity of an as-synthesized, bi-active site catalyst for C-H bond oxygenation, the oxidative cleavage of alkenes, and the multicomponent, one-pot synthesis of benzoxazole derivatives with excellent yields from readily available starting materials. Our results indicated high conversion rates and selectivity under mild reaction conditions and simple separation using a magnetic field. The leaching and recyclability tests of the catalyst were investigated for the above processes, which indicated that all the reactions proceed via a heterogeneous pathway and that the catalyst is recyclable without any tangible loss in catalytic activity for at least 8, 5 and 5 cycles for C-H bond oxygenation, C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bond cleavage and benzoxazole synthesis, respectively.

Abstract
Hypervalent iodine compounds as environmentally friendly and relatively inexpensive reagents have properties similar to transition metals. They are employed as alternatives to transition metal catalysts in organic synthesis as mild, nontoxic, selective and recyclable catalytic reagents. Formation of C-N, C-O, C-S, C-F and C-C bonds can be seamlessly accomplished by hypervalent iodine catalysed oxidative functionalisations. The aim of this review is to highlight recent developments in the utilisation of iodine(III) and iodine(V) catalysts in the synthesis of a wide range of organic compounds including chiral catalysts for stereoselective synthesis. Polymer-, magnetic nanoparticle- and metal organic framework-supported hypervalent iodine catalysts are also described.

Abstract
The reactions of thioamides with azides in water were studied. It was reliably shown that the reaction of 2-cyanothioacetamides 1 with various types of azides 2 in water in the presence of alkali presents an efficient, general, one-step, atom-economic, and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of 1,2,3-thiadiazol-4-carbimidamides 5 and 1,2,3-triazole-4-carbothioamides 4. This method can be extended to the one-pot reaction of sulfonyl chlorides and 6-chloropyrimidines 2'o with sodium azide, leading to final products in higher yields, that is, avoiding the isolation of unsafe sulfonyl azides. The method was furthermore applied to the reaction of N,N'-bis-(2-cyanothiocarbonyl)pyrazine 1h with sulfonyl azides to afford bicyclic 1,2,3-thiadiazoles 8 and 1,2,3-triazoles 9 connected via a 1,1'-piperazinyl linker. 2-Cyanothioacetamides 1 were also shown to react with aromatic azides in water in the presence of alkali to afford 1-aryl-5-amino-1,2,3-triazole-4-carbothioamides 11. In contrast to aromatic azides and similarly to sulfonyl azides, 6-azidopyrimidine-2,4-diones 2o-q react with cyanothioacetamides to form N-pyrimidin-6-yl-5-dialkylamino-1,2,3-thiadiazole-4-N-l-carbimidamides 12. A mechanism was proposed to rationalize the role of water in changing the reactivity of azides toward 2-cyanothioacetamides.

Abstract
An unusual aerobic hydrolysis-cascade reaction has been developed with N-phenacylbenzothiazolium bromides by treatment with organic and inorganic base. The corresponding N-formyl-2-benzoyl benzothiazoline and 2-substituted benzothiazole products were obtained in moderate to good yields under mild reaction conditions. Also, symmetrical disulfide was formed when keto group was replaced with ester. The scopes of the reactions are fairly broad tolerating aryl, heteroaryl, and alkyl groups.

Abstract
A novel and practical Cu-catalyzed aerobic oxidative synthesis of thiazoles was developed. This chemistry for the first time achieved thiazole construction from simple aldehydes, amines, and element sulfur through multiple Csp3-H bond cleavage processes. Molecular oxygen was used as a green oxidant in this oxidative protocol. The substrate scope is broad with the tolerance of aliphatic amines. The mechanistic study might promote the reaction design for a new sulfuration/annulation reaction with readily available element sulfur.

Abstract
The electrochemical synthesis of pyrazolidine-3,5-diones and benzoxazoles by N-N bond formation and C,O linkage, respectively, represents an easy access to medicinally relevant structures. Electrochemistry as a key technology ensures a safe and sustainable approach. We gained insights in the mechanism of these reactions by combining cyclovoltammetric and synthetic studies. The electron-transfer behavior of anilides and dianilides was studied and led to the following conclusion: The N-N bond formation involves a diradical as intermediate, whereas the benzoxazole formation is based on a cationic mechanism. Besides these studies, we developed a synthetic route to mixed dianilides as starting materials for the N-N coupling. The compatibility with valuable functionalities like triflates and mesylates for follow-up reactions as well as the comparison of different electrochemical set-ups also enhanced the applicability of this method.

Abstract
An exceptional oxone mediated tandem transformation of 2-aminobenzylamines to 2-substituted benzimidazoles is reported. It occurs at room temperature with aromatic, heteroaromatic, and aliphatic aldehydes. In this reaction initial condensation of 2-aminobenzylamine with appropriate aldehydes afforded a tetrahydroquinazoline intermediate which underwent oxone-mediated ring distortion to afford the desired compounds in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract
The preparation, structure, and chemistry of hypervalent iodine compounds are reviewed with emphasis on their synthetic application. Compounds of iodine possess reactivity similar to that of transition metals, but have the advantage of environmental sustainability and efficient utilization of natural resources. These compounds are widely used in organic synthesis as selective oxidants and environmentally friendly reagents. Synthetic uses of hypervalent iodine reagents in halogenation reactions, various oxidations, rearrangements, aminations, C-C bond-forming reactions, and transition metal-catalyzed reactions are summarized and discussed. Recent discovery of hypervalent catalytic systems and recyclable reagents, and the development of new enantioselective reactions using chiral hypervalent iodine compounds represent a particularly important achievement in the field of hypervalent iodine chemistry. One of the goals of this Review is to attract the attention of the scientific community as to the benefits of using hypervalent iodine compounds as an environmentally sustainable alternative to heavy metals.
