Abstract
The unprecedented reaction of α,β-unsaturated N-arylaldimines with two molecular 5-arylidene-1,3-dimethylbarbituric acids in methylene dichloride at room temperature afforded unique spiro[pyrido[3′,2′:5,6]pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine-7,5′-pyrimidines] in moderate to good yields and with high diastereoselectivity.

Abstract
An efficient and practical synthetic method for the functionalized 2-amino hydropyridines and 2-pyridinones was successfully developed via the domino reactions of arylamines, methyl propiolate, aromatic aldehydes and the substituted acetonitriles with triethylamine as base catalyst. Reactions involving malononitrile and cyanoacetamide gave exclusively the 2-aminohydropyridines. On the other hand ethyl cyanoacetate resulted in the 2-pyridinones as main products.

Abstract
1-Azadienes are versatile building blocks for the efficient construction of various N-heterocycles. Depending on the substitution pattern and reaction partner, they may participate in a range of different reactions. An overview of recent methods for the generation of 1-azadienes is presented, as well as their application in cycloaddition, electrocyclization, and multicomponent reactions. Considering the broad range of reactivities and resulting heterocyclic scaffold structures, 1-azadienes are very useful reactive intermediates for the development of modular reaction sequences in diversity-oriented synthesis.
