Abstract
Lewis base-catalyzed cascade nucleophilic/aza-Michael addition reaction of N-alkoxy β-oxo-acrylamides with isocyanates has been developed to afford various highly functionalized hydantoin derivatives in 80-98% yields under mild reaction conditions. The intriguing features of this method include metal-free reaction conditions, low catalyst loading, broad substrate scope and short reaction time.

Abstract
The first example of palladium-catalysed oxidative carbonylation of unprotected α-amino amides to hydantoins is described here. The selective synthesis of the target compounds was achieved under mild conditions (1 atm of CO), without ligands and bases. The catalytic system overrode the common reaction pathway that usually leads instead to the formation of symmetrical ureas.

Abstract
An unprecedented 1,3-dipole cycloaddition between acyclic CF3-ketimines and N-benzyl azomethine ylide has been allowed by tungsten catalysis, furnishing a range of novel imidazolidines bearing a trifluoromethylated tetrasubstituted carbon center. This reaction appears as one of rare examples that challenging acyclic CF3-ketimines have been engaged in 1,3-cycloaddition reactions. The capability for gram-scale synthesis and variant derivatizations of cycloaddition adducts illustrates the synthetic potential of this approach. This protocol provides a facile access to a rapidly enlarging pool of motifs with a trifluoromethylated fully substituted carbon.

Abstract
A method for the synthesis of enantiopure 1,5-substituted hydantoins was developed using a hypervalent iodine cyanation reagent (cyanobenziodoxolone, CBX) as a source of electrophilic carbon. Starting from inexpensive commercially available enantiopure protected amino acids, the method allowed the synthesis of various hydantoins without epimerization. Formation of hydantoins from dipeptides was also possible, but partial epimerization was observed in this case. This synthetic strategy is user friendly as CBX is a bench-stable easy-to-handle crystalline reagent and avoids conventional multistep protocols, thus allowing the facile synthesis of a library of chiral hydantoins.

Abstract
A TiCl4-mediated reaction for the direct amination of α-hydroxy amides has been developed. This simple, general, additive/base/ligand-free reaction is mediated by economical TiCl4. The reaction runs under mild conditions. This highly efficient C-N bond formation protocol is valid for diverse amines, including primary, secondary and heterocyclic amines, and even a primary amide and indole.

Abstract
Methods to convert amines to formamides are of interest due to the many uses of formamides as synthetic intermediates. These methods include stoichiometric reactions of formylating reagents and catalytic reactions with CO as the carbonyl source. This review discusses the reported stoichiometric and catalytic approaches for preparation of formamides.
