Zirconium-Mediated Intramolecular Coupling Reactions of Unsaturated Anilines. Diastereoselective Synthesis of Azetidines

One Amine-3 Tasks: Reductive Coupling of Imines with Olefins in Batch and Flow

Owing to their wide range of biological properties, γ-aminobutyric acid derivatives (GABA) have been extensively studied and found noteworthy industrial applications. However, atom-economical and efficient processes for their production are scarce and would greatly benefit from further investigations. Herein, we demonstrate that an iridium-based photocatalyst promotes the direct reductive cross-coupling of imines with olefins upon irradiation with visible light to give GABA derivatives in good yields and selectivities. We also stress the enabling triple role of tributylamine additive in this process, discuss the advantages of strategies based on proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) and demonstrate the scale-up of this reaction in continuous flow.

N,N‘-Carbonyldiimidazole-Mediated Cyclization of Amino Alcohols to Substituted Azetidines and Other N-Heterocycles

Amino alcohols are important synthons for N-heterocycles. We have developed an efficient method to activate hydroxyl groups, which avoids the use of toxic reagents and tolerates a wide variety of functional groups. Our strategy has been applied to the synthesis of functionalized p-methoxyphenyl-protected azetidines, pyrrolidines, and piperidines. The required amino alcohols were synthesized according to an optimized proline-catalyzed Mannich protocol. An azetidine analogue of ezetimibe was synthesized to demonstrate the potential for the synthesis of drug-like molecules.

Coupling of coordinated 2-iminophosphorano-1-phosphaallyl leading to bridged iminophosphoranato complexes of zirconium and hafnium

Reaction of MCl4 (M = Zr, Hf) with 2 equiv of 2-iminophosphorano-1-phosphaallyl lithium [Li[P(Ph)C(=CHPh)P(Me)2=NSiMe3](THF)1.5] (1) affords ligand coupling complexes 3 and 4, respectively, while similar treatment of ZrCl4 with [Li[P(Ph)C(=C(SiMe2Bu(t))Ph)P(Me)2=NSiMe3](THF)2] (2) yields ligand transfer complex 5.
