Abstract
Enantioselective synthesis of functionalized cyclic allylic alcohols via kinetic resolution in transesterifcation with different lipase enzymes has been developed. The influence of the enzymes and temperature activity was studied. By determination of ideal reaction conditions, byproduct formation is minimized; this made it possible to prepare enantiomerically enriched allylic alcohols in high ee's and good yields. Enantiomerically enriched allylic alcohols were used for enantiomerically enriched oxazolidinone synthesis. Using benzoate as a leaving group means that 1 mol % of potassium osmate is necessary and can be obtained high yields 98%. Inhibitory activities of enantiomerically enriched oxazolidinones (8, 10 and 12) were tested against human carbonic anhydrase I and II isoenzymes (hCA I and hCA II), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and α-glycosidase (α-Gly) enzymes. These enantiomerically enriched oxazolidinones derivatives had Ki values in the range of 11.6 ± 2.1-66.4 ± 22.7 nM for hCA I, 34.1 ± 6.7-45.2 ± 12.9 nM for hCA II, 16.5 ± 2.9 to 35.6 ± 13.9 for AChE, and 22.3 ± 6.0-70.9 ± 9.9 nM for α-glycosidase enzyme. Moreover, they had high binding affinity with -5.767, -6.568, -9.014, and -8.563 kcal/mol for hCA I, hCA II, AChE and α-glycosidase enzyme, respectively. These results strongly supported the promising nature of the enantiomerically enriched oxazolidinones as selective hCA, AChE, and α-glycosidase inhibitors. Overall, due to these derivatives' inhibitory potential on the tested enzymes, they are promising drug candidates for the treatment of diseases like glaucoma, leukemia, epilepsy; Alzheimer's disease; type-2 diabetes mellitus that are associated with high enzymatic activity of CA, AChE, and α-glycosidase.

Abstract
Stereoselective and efficient synthesis of hydroxymethyl-substituted rac-quercitols (13-15) was achieved, starting from cis-furan (Kobayashi, 2008) with photooxygenation reaction, which is readily available by the reduction of cis-phtalic anhydride. α- and β-Glucosidase enzyme activity of the target molecules was evaluated and good inhibitor activity was seen. One- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography were utilized in the structure characterization of products.

Abstract
1,3,3a,7a-Tetrahydro-2-benzofuran was used as key compound for the synthesis of various bishomoinositol derivatives. The diene was subjected to an epoxidation reaction for further functionalization of the diene unit. The bisepoxide obtained was submitted to a ring-opening reaction with acid in the presence of water. Various bishomoinositols were synthesized. However, when the reaction was carried out in the presence of acetic anhydride, a substituted 3-oxabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane skeleton was formed. The mechanism of the formation of the products is discussed.

Abstract
The mechanism of the singlet oxygen ene reaction has been a subject of renewed interest within the last few years. The main question being whether this reaction proceeds through a concerted mechanism or if it involves discrete intermediates. In general, the majority of experimental and computational studies support a traditional stepwise mechanism involving a perepoxide-like intermediate. In this minireview we highlight the most prominent and recent theoretical, as well as experimental results relating to the challenging mechanism of the singlet oxygen ene oxyfunctionalization.

Abstract
A comprehensive study of a general and effective one-step procedure for the synthesis of beta-sulfonamidodisulfides directly from N-tosyl aziridines in a regio- and stereospecific manner under neutral conditions without the use of any Lewis acid or base has been reported. This methodology is extended to the synthesis of an optically pure cyclic seven-membered disulfide 29. Synthesis of a variety of beta-sulfonamidosulfides involving tandem, multistep reactions in one pot is also reported.

Abstract
The crystal structure of a (-) gamma-lactamase from an Aureobacterium species showed a molecule bound covalently to the active site serine residue. This enzyme complex represented the first structure of a stably bound tetrahedral intermediate for an alpha/beta hydrolase fold enzyme. The structural elucidation of tetrahedral intermediates is important for the understanding of enzymatic mechanism, substrate recognition and enzyme inhibition. In this paper, we report the synthesis and subsequent characterisation of (3aR,7aS)-3a,4,7,7a-tetrahydrobenzo-[1,3]-dioxol-2-one (BD1), the molecule modelled into the Aureobacterium (-) gamma-lactamase active site. This molecule has been confirmed to be an inhibitor and to be displaced from the enzyme by the racemic gamma-lactam substrate.

Abstract
(1,4/2)-cyclohex-5-ene-triol was synthesized starting from cyclohexa-1,4-diene with two different approaches. Photooxygenation of cyclohexa-1,4-diene and epoxy-cyclohexene afforded anti-2,3-dioxabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-7-en-5-yl hydroperoxide and anti-7-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]hept-4-en-3-yl hydroperoxide, respectively. Hydroperoxy endoperoxide was reduced with aqueous sodium bisulfite; hydroperoxy-epoxide with dimethylsulfide-titanium tetraisopropoxide to give 7-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]hept-4-en-3-ol. Acidic hydrolysis of the epoxy-alcohol gave the (1,4/2)-cyclohex-3-ene-triol. Oxidation of the double bond with KMnO4 resulted in the formation of (+/-)-proto-quercitol.

Abstract
We describe for the first time the free radical cyclization of enantiomerically pure alkyne-tethered aldehydes obtained from a carbohydrate (6, 7). The synthesis of compounds 6 and 7 obtained from a derivative of D-ribose is reported. These radical precursors have been submitted to cyclization with tributyltin hydride plus azobisisobutyronitrile to yield, after ring closure, two carbocycles, respectively. These carbocycles have been obtained as mixtures of E and Z vinyltin isomers, but with excellent diastereoselection at the new stereocenter formed during the ring closure. After protodestannylation, only one diastereomer was detected and isolated. The absolute configuration at the new stereocenter formed during the carbocyclization has been established by detailed (1)H NMR analysis. The specific transformation of 7-methoxymethoxy-2,2-dimethyl-4-methylene-5-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-(3aR,5S,7S,7aS)-perhydrobenzo[d][1,3]dioxole into optically pure (+)-allo-quercitol and (+)-talo-quercitol is described. From these results, we conclude that under an appropriate choice of radical precursors and conditions, the synthesis of highly functionalized cyclohexane derivatives of biological interest is now available.
