Abstract
N2O is a classic prototype, in which central nitrogen is sufficiently electropositive with a positive potential of 20 kcal mol-1 in magnitude to qualify it as a possible pnicogen. This was applied to a test with N2O clusters using ab initio calculations in association with various molecular topographic tools. The structure of the energetically dominant and N2O dimer was in favor of a perpendicular geometry, where the central nitrogen atom of the N2O submolecule assumed a near 90° angle with the adjacent N═O and/or N═N moiety, which provides the affirmation of central nitrogen as a possible π-hole-driven pnicogen. The terminal nitrogen and oxygen atoms of N2O continue to act as conventional electron donors (Lewis bases) with a negative potential. Overall, predominant π-hole-driven N···O and N···N pnicogen bonding interactions were observed to stabilize N2O clusters. Furthermore, N2O clusters (dimers and trimers) were synthesized at low temperatures in an Ar matrix using molecular beam (effusive and supersonic expansion) experiments. The geometries of these clusters were characterized by probing infrared spectroscopy with corroboration from ab initio computational methods. In addition to our previously investigated nitromethane and nitrobenzene systems, N2O also makes it to a pnicogen bonder's club with the central nitrogen as a π-hole-driven pnicogen.

Abstract
The modeling of the activity of anesthetics is a real challenge because of their unique electronic and structural characteristics. Microscopic approaches relevant to the typical features of these systems have been developed based on the advancements in the theory of intermolecular interactions. By stressing the quantum chemical point of view, here, we review the advances in the field highlighting differences and similarities among the chemicals within this group. The binding of the anesthetics to their partners has been analyzed by Symmetry-Adapted Perturbation Theory to provide insight into the nature of the interaction and the modeling of the adducts/complexes allows us to rationalize their anesthetic properties. A new approach in the frame of microtubule concept and the importance of lipid rafts and channels in membranes is also discussed.

Abstract
We present an analytical intermolecular potential energy surface (PES) for two rigid nitrous oxide (N2O) molecules derived from high-level quantum-chemical ab initio calculations. Interaction energies for 2018 N2O-N2O configurations were computed utilizing the counterpoise-corrected supermolecular approach at the CCSD(T) level of theory using basis sets up to aug-cc-pVQZ supplemented with bond functions. A site-site potential function with seven sites per N2O molecule was fitted to the pair interaction energies. We validated our PES by computing the second virial coefficient as well as shear viscosity and thermal conductivity in the dilute-gas limit. The values of these properties are substantiated by the best experimental data.

Abstract
In this paper we report transition frequencies and rotational constants computed for several isotopologues of the nitrous oxide dimer. A previously reported intermolecular potential, the symmetry adapted Lanczos algorithm and an uncoupled product basis set are used to do the calculations. Rotational transition frequencies and rotational constants are in good agreement with experiment. We calculate states localized in both polar and nonpolar wells on the potential surface. Two of the four isotopologues we study have inequivalent monomers. They have wavefunctions localized over a single polar well.

Abstract
Laser initiated reactions in N2O clusters were studied by a time-sliced velocity imaging technique. The N2O clusters, (N2O)n, generated by supersonic expansion were irradiated by an ultraviolet laser around 204 nm to convert reactant pairs, O((1)D2)-(N2O)n-1. The NO molecules formed from these reactant pairs were ionized by the same laser pulse and their velocity distribution was determined by the time-sliced velocity imaging technique. At low nozzle pressure, lower than 1.5 atm, the speed distribution in the frame moving with the clusters consists of two components. These components were ascribed to the products appeared in the backward and forward directions in the center-of-mass frame, respectively. The former consists of the vibrational ground state and the latter consists of highly vibrational excited states. At higher nozzle pressure, a single broad speed distribution became dominant for the product NO. The pressure and laser power dependences suggested that this component is attributed to the product formed in the clusters larger than dimer, (N2O)n (n ≥ 3).

Abstract
The nature of weak van der Waals interactions in different complexes of some atmospheric molecules such as CO 2, N 2 O , and N 2 was examined. Ab initio calculation was carried out at MP2 level of theory using Dunning's aug-cc-pVTZ basis set. Bader's theory of atoms in molecules (AIM) was employed to analyze electron density and to characterize the nature and properties of van der Waals interactions. A set of criteria, having been proposed in the context of AIM theory, was examined for these complexes. In spite of the parameter kinetics energy, per electron density is expected to be greater than unity for closed-shell interactions; we obtained values less than unity for many of these polyatomic systems. A set of limitations has also been outlined for the values of two AIM quantities: total energy density, H(r), and Laplacian of electron density, ∇2ρ, which correspond to different bond natures.

Abstract
The use of different models based on experimental information about the observed level splitings, rotational constants, and far-infrared transition frequencies leads to different predictions on the equilibrium geometry for tetrahydrofuran. High-level ab initio calculations [coupled cluster singles, doubles (triples)/complete basis set (second order Moller-Plesset triple, quadrupole, quintuple)+zero-point energy(anharmonic)] suggest that the equilibrium conformation of tetrahydrofuran is an envelope C(s) structure. The theoretical geometrical parameters might be helpful to plan further microwave spectroscopic studies in order to get a physical interpretation of the measurements.

Abstract
Ab initio calculations at MP2/6-311++G(2d,2p) and MP2/6-311++G(3df,3pd) computational levels have been used to analyze the interactions between nitrous oxide and a series of small and large molecules that act simultaneously as hydrogen bond donors and electron donors. The basis set superposition error (BSSE) and zero point energy (ZPE) corrected binding energies of small N2O complexes (H2O, NH3, HOOH, HOO*, HONH2, HCO2H, H2CO, HCONH2, H2CNH, HC(NH)NH2, SH2, H2CS, HCSOH, HCSNH2) vary between -0.93 and -2.90 kcal/mol at MP2/6-311++G(3df,3pd) level, and for eight large complexes of N2O they vary between -2.98 and -3.37 kcal/mol at the MP2/6-311++G(2d,2p) level. The most strongly bound among small N2O complexes (HCSNH2-N2O) contains a NH..N bond, along with S-->N interactions, and the most unstable (H2S-N2O) contains just S-->N interactions. The electron density properties have been analyzed within the atoms in molecules (AIM) methodology. Results of the present study open a window into the nature of the interactions between N2O with other molecular moieties and open the possibility to design N2O abiotic receptors.

Abstract
An alignment effect in the dissociative energy transfer reaction of Ar((3)P(2))+(X(2)O)(n)(X=N,H) was directly measured using an oriented Ar((3)P(2),M(J)=2) beam. The chemiluminescence intensity of N(2)(B,(3)Pi(g)) for (N(2)O)(n) and OH(A,(2)Sigma(+)) for (H(2)O)(n) was measured as a function of the magnetic orientation field direction in the collision frame. The relative reaction cross section for each magnetic substate in the collision frame, sigma(M(J) (') ), was determined. In both the reaction systems, it is observed that the dimer formation significantly enhances the alignment effect and decreases the reactivity, especially for sigma|1| and sigma|2|. A significant contribution of rank 4 moment is recognized in the dimer reaction.

Abstract
An intermolecular potential energy surface for He(2)Br(2) complex in the ground state is calculated at the levels of fourth-order (MP4) Moller-Plesset and coupled-cluster [CCSD(T)] approximations, using large-core pseudopotential for Br atoms and the aug-cc-pV5Z basis set for He. The surface is characterized by three minima and the minimum energy pathways through them. The global minimum corresponds to a linear He-Br(2)-He configuration, while the two other ones to "police-nightstick" and tetrahedral structures. The corresponding well depths are -90.39/-89.18, -81.23/-80.78 and -74.40/-74.02 cm(-1), respectively, at MP4/CCSD(T) levels of theory. It is found that results obtained by summing three-body parametrized HeBr(2) interactions and the He-He interaction are in very good accord with the corresponding MP4/CSSD(T) configuration energies of the He(2)Br(2). Variational calculations using a sum of three-body interactions are presented to study the bound states of the vdW He(2)Br(2) complex. The binding energy D(0) and the corresponding vibrationally averaged structure are determined for different isomers of the cluster and their comparison with the available experimental data is discussed.
