Abstract
In the current scenario, one of the crucial reaction conversions is the synthesis of renewable biofuels and value-added chemicals from the hydrogenation of biomass. Therefore, in the present work, we are proposing aqueous phase conversion of levulinic acid to γ-valerolactone via hydrogenation using formic acid as a sustainable green hydrogen source over a sustainable heterogeneous catalyst. The catalyst based on Pd nanoparticles stabilized by lacunary phosphomolybdate (PMo11Pd) was designed for the same and characterized by EDX, FT-IR, 31P NMR, powder XRD, XPS, TEM, HRTEM, and HAADF-STEM analyses. A detailed optimization study was done to achieve maximum conversion (95% conversion), using a very small amount of Pd (1.879 × 10-3 mmol) with notable TON (2585) at 200 °C in 6 h. The regenerated catalyst was found to be workable (reusable) up to three cycles without any change in activity. Also, a plausible reaction mechanism was proposed. The catalyst exhibits superior activity against reported catalysts.

Abstract
A family of three discrete organoantimony(III)-functionalized heteropolyanions-[Na{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}As(III)2W19O67(H2O)](10-) (1), [{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}2As(III)2W19O67(H2O)](8-) (2), and [{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}{WO2(H2O)}{WO(H2O)}2(B-β-As(III)W8O30)(B-α-As(III)W9O33)2](14-) (3)-have been prepared by one-pot reactions of the 19-tungstodiarsenate(III) precursor [As(III)2W19O67(H2O)](14-) with 2-(Me2NCH2)C6H4SbCl2. The three novel polyanions crystallized as the hydrated mixed-alkali salts Cs3KNa6[Na{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}As(III)2W19O67(H2O)]·43H2O (CsKNa-1), Rb2.5K5.5[{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}2As(III)2W19O67(H2O)]·18H2O·Me2NCH2C6H5 (RbK-2), and Rb2.5K11.5[{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}{WO2(H2O)}{WO(H2O)}2(B-β-As(III)W8O30)(B-α-As(III)W9O33)2]·52H2O (RbK-3), respectively. The number of incorporated {2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)} units could be tuned by careful control of the experimental parameters. Polyanions 1 and 2 possess a dimeric sandwich-type topology, whereas 3 features a trimeric, wheel-shaped structure, representing the largest organoantimony-containing polyanion. All three compounds were fully characterized in the solid state via single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, and their aqueous solution stability was validated by ultraviolet-visible light (UV-vis) and multinuclear ((1)H, (13)C, and (183)W) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Effective inhibition against six different types of bacteria was observed for 1 and 2, and we could extract a structure-bioactivity relationship for these polyanions.

Novel antitumor agent, trilacunary Keggin-type tungstobismuthate, inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis in human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells. Inorg Chem 2013; 52:5119-27. Abstract
A new one-dimensional chain-like compound of tungstobismuthate, [(W(OH)2)2 (Mn(H2O)3)2(Na3(H2O)14)(BiW9O33)2](Himi)2·16H2O (1) (imi = iminazole), has been synthesized in aqueous solution. The structure of 1 was identified by elemental analysis, IR, thermogravimetry (TG), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), (183)W-NMR, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. To investigate the inhibitory effect of 1 on human gastric adenocarcinoma SGC-7901 cells, cell proliferation and apoptosis initiation were examined by MTT assay (MTT = 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl tetrazoliumbromide), flow cytometry, nuclear staining, transmission electron microscopy, single cell gel electrophoresis, DNA fragmentation, and Western blotting. The results showed that 1 inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in SGC-7901 cells in dose-dependent manner. In addition, 1 also decreased the expression of bcl-2 protein and nuclear factor-κB p65 protein in SGC-7901 cells. And expression of bcl-2 protein exhibits a decreasing trend with increase of concentration of 1. Thus, 1 possessed a potential antitumor activity in SGC-7901 cells. This suggests that polyoxotungstates will provide a promising and novel antitumor agent in prevention and treatment of gastric adenocarcinoma.

Abstract
In the thematic review dedicated to polyoxometalate (POM) chemistry published in Chemical Reviews in 1998, no contribution was devoted to theory. This is not surprising because computational modelling of molecular metal-oxide clusters was in its infancy at that time. Nowadays, the situation has completely changed and modern computational methods have been successfully applied to study the structure, electronic properties, spectroscopy and reactivity of POM clusters. Indeed, the progress achieved during the past decade has been spectacular and herein we critically review the most important papers to provide the reader with an almost complete perspective of the field.

Abstract
The proper description of low-spin states of open-shell systems, which are commonly encountered in the field of bioinorganic chemistry, rigorously requires using multireference ab initio methodologies. Such approaches are unfortunately very CPU-time consuming as dynamic correlation effects also have to be taken into account. The broken-symmetry unrestricted (spin-polarized) density functional theory (DFT) technique has been widely employed up to now to bypass that drawback, but despite a number of relative successes in the determination of singlet-triplet gaps, this framework cannot be considered as entirely satisfactory. In this contribution, we investigate some alternative ways relying on the spin-flip time-dependent DFT approach [Y. Shao et al. J. Chem. Phys. 118, 4807 (2003)]. Taking a few well-documented copper-dioxygen adducts as examples, we show that spin-flip (SF)-DFT computed singlet-triplet gaps compare very favorably to either experimental results or large-scale CASMP2 computations. Moreover, it is shown that this approach can be used to optimize geometries at a DFT level including some multireference effects. Finally, a clear-cut added value of the SF-DFT computations is drawn: if pure ab initio data are required, then the electronic excitations revealed by SF-DFT can be considered in designing dramatically reduced zeroth-order variational spaces to be used in subsequent multireference configuration interaction or multireference perturbation treatments.

Abstract
We report the dimerization of a mono-ruthenium(III) substituted alpha-Keggin-type tungstosilicate [alpha-SiW(11)O(39)Ru(III)(H2O)](5-) to a micro-oxo-bridged dimer [{alpha-SiW(11)O(39)Ru(m)}2O](n-) (m = III, n = 12; m = IV/III, n = 11; m = IV, n = 10). Single crystal X-ray structure analysis of Rb(10)[{alpha-SiW(11)O(39)Ru(IV)}2O].9.5H2O (triclinic, P1, with a = 12.7650(6) A, b = 18.9399(10) A, c = 20.2290(10) A, alpha = 72.876(3) degrees, beta = 88.447(3) degrees, gamma = 80.926(3) degrees, V = 4614.5(4) A(3), Z = 2) reveals that two mono-ruthenium substituted tungstosilicate alpha-Keggin units are connected through micro-oxo-bridging Ru-O-Ru bonds. Solution (183)W-NMR of [{SiW(11)O(39)Ru(IV)}2O](10-) resulted in six peaks (-63, -92, -110, -128, -132, and -143 ppm, intensities 2 : 2 : 1 : 2 : 2 : 2) confirming that the micro-oxo bridged dimer structure is maintained in aqueous solution. The dimerization mechanism is presumably initiated by deprotonation of the aqua-ruthenium complex [alpha-SiW(11)O(39)Ru(III)(H2O)](5-) leading to a hydroxy-ruthenium complex [alpha-SiW(11)O(39)Ru(III)(OH)](6-). Dimerization of two hydroxy-ruthenium complexes produces the micro-oxo bridged dimer [{alpha-SiW(11)O(39)Ru(III)}2O](12-) and a water molecule. The Ru(III) containing dimer is oxidized by molecular oxygen to produce a mixed valence species [{alpha-SiW(11)O(39)Ru(IV-III)}2O](11-), and further oxidation results in the Ru(IV) containing [{alpha-SiW(11)O(39)Ru(IV)}2O](10-).

Abstract
Three {Ru(p-cym)}(2+) (p-cym = p-cymene) derivatives of [Nb(6)O(19)](8-)-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}](6-) (Nb(6)Ru(1)), trans-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(2)](4-) (t-Nb6Ru2), and [Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(4)] (Nb(6)Ru(4))--have been synthesized in water by reaction between [Ru(p-cym)Cl(2)](2) and the hexaniobate. In the solid state, Nb(6)Ru(1) and Nb(6)Ru(4) have been characterized by IR and EDX spectroscopies, whereas t-Nb(6)Ru(2) has been characterized by IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (crystal data for K(4)-trans-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(2)].14H(2)O (K(4)-t-Nb(6)Ru(2).14H(2)O). In solution, all compounds were characterized by (1)H NMR and ESI mass spectrometry analyses, and Nb(6)Ru(1) was also analyzed by (17)O NMR. These studies allowed a comparison of the differences in behaviour of the three complexes in water: Nb(6)Ru(1) is particularly stable, Nb(6)Ru(4) decomposes by loss of {Ru(p-cym)}(2+) fragments, and trans-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(2)](4-) isomerizes into cis-[Nb(6)O(19){Ru(p-cym)}(2)](4-). A rational mechanism for the isomerisation of t-Nb(6)Ru(2) is proposed on the basis of a kinetic study.
