Functional Perovskite Hybrid of Polyacetylene Ammonium and Lead Bromide: Synthesis, Light Emission, and Fluorescence Imagining

Polymeric Metal Halides with Bright Luminescence and Versatile Processability

Most of current metal halide materials, including all inorganic and organic-inorganic hybrids, are crystalline materials with poor workability and plasticity that limit their application scope. Here, we develop a novel class of materials termed polymeric metal halides (PMHs) through introducing polycations into antimony-based metal halide materials as A-site cations. A series of PMHs with orange-yellow broadband emission and large Stokes shift originating from inorganic self-trapped excitons are successfully prepared, which meanwhile exhibit the excellent processability and formability of polymers. The versatility of these PMHs is manifested as the broad choices of polycations, the ready extension to manganese- and copper-based halides, and the tolerance to molar ratios between polycations and metal halides in the formation of PMHs. The merger of polymer chemistry and inorganic chemistry thus provides a novel generic platform for the development of metal halide functional materials.

Emerging Two-Dimensional Organic Semiconductor-Incorporated Perovskites─A Fascinating Family of Hybrid Electronic Materials

Halide perovskites have attracted a great amount of attention owing to their unique materials chemistry, excellent electronic properties, and low-cost manufacturing. Two-dimensional (2D) halide perovskites, originating from three-dimensional (3D) perovskite structures, are structurally more diverse and therefore create functional possibilities beyond 3D perovskites. The much less restrictive size constraints on the organic component of these hybrid materials particularly provide an exciting platform for designing unprecedented materials and functionalities at the molecular level. In this Perspective, we discuss the concept and recent development of a sub-class of 2D perovskites, namely, organic semiconductor-incorporated perovskites (OSiPs). OSiPs combine the electronic functionality of organic semiconductors with the soft and dynamic halide perovskite lattice, offering opportunities for tailoring the energy landscape, lattice and carrier dynamics, and electron/ion transport properties for various fundamental studies, as well as device applications. Specifically, we summarize recent advances in the design, synthesis, and structural analysis of OSiPs with various organic conjugated moieties as well as the application of OSiPs in photovoltaics, light-emitting devices, and transistors. Lastly, challenges and further opportunities for OSiPs in molecular design, integration of novel functionality, film quality, and stability issues are addressed.

Synthesis of Functional Disubstituted Polyacetylenes Bearing Highly Polar Functionalities via Activated Ester Strategy

We demonstrate a facile synthetic route to functional disubstituted polyacetylenes bearing highly polar groups based on polymer reactions. A pentafluorophenyl (PFP) ester-containing diphenylacetylene was designed and polymerized to obtain PFP activated ester-functionalized disubstituted polyacetylene (P1). P1 was used as a parent polymer to further react separately with diverse amines, giving rise to a series of functional disubstituted polyacetylenes with a chiral moiety and hydroxyl and carboxyl groups in high yields under mild condition. Spectral characterization data indicated that the polymers' structures were well consistent with the expected results. The helicity and emission property of polymers were also studied.

This review summarizes the recent advances of substituted polyacetylene chemistry, including new polymerization catalysts and the properties and functions of the polymers.

Preparations and Characterizations of Luminescent Two Dimensional Organic-inorganic Perovskite Semiconductors

This article reviews the synthesis, structural and optical characterizations of some novel luminescent two dimensional organic-inorganic perovskite (2DOIP) semiconductors. These 2DOIP semiconductors show a self-assembled nano-layered structure, having the electronic structure of multi-quantum wells. 2DOIP thin layers and nanoparticles have been prepared through different methods. The structures of the 2DOIP semiconductors are characterized by atomic force microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The optical properties of the 2DOIP semiconductors are characterized from absorption and photoluminescence spectra measured at room and low temperatures. Influences of different components, in particular the organic parts, on the structural and optical properties of the 2DOIP semiconductors are discussed.

Hybridization of thiol-functionalized poly(phenylacetylene) with cadmium sulfide nanorods: improved miscibility and enhanced photoconductivity

Molecules of a thiol-functionalized phenylacetylene derivative were assembled on the CdS nanorod surface and copolymerized with phenylacetylene, affording an inorganic semiconductor-conjugated polymer hybrid with excellent solubility and high photoconductivity.
