Abstract
Among the d10 coinage metal complexes, cyclic trinuclear complexes (CTCs) or trinuclear metallocycles with intratrimer metal-metal interactions are fascinating and important metal-organic or organometallic π-acids/bases. Each CTC of characteristic planar or near-planar trimetal nine-membered rings consists of Au(I)/Ag(I)/Cu(I) cations that linearly coordinate with N and/or C atoms in ditopic anionic bridging ligands. Since the first discovery of Au(I) CTC in the 1970s, research of CTCs has involved several fundamental areas, including noncovalent and metallophilic interaction, excimer/exciplex, acid-base chemistry, metalloaromaticity, supramolecular assemblies, and host/guest chemistry. These allow CTCs to be embraced in a wide range of innovative potential applications that include chemical sensing, semiconducting, gas and liquid adsorption/separation, catalysis, full-color display, and solid-state lighting. This review aims to provide a historic and comprehensive summary on CTCs and their extension to higher nuclearity complexes and coordination polymers from the perspectives of synthesis, structure, theoretical insight, and potential applications.

Abstract
The increased attention to luminescent copper(I) complexes, mostly mononuclear and dinuclear ones, in the past few years was mainly due to the new pathways established in the intersystem crossing (ISC) for highly efficient singlet/triplet harvesting, which showed great potential in light-emitting devices. Governing the photophysical processes of planar cyclic trinuclear complexes is more challenging owing to the rich intra- and intermolecular metal-metal interactions involved, but new opportunities also accompany this. Herein reported is a hidden route to the ultra-long-lived, highly efficient phosphorescence of cyclic trinuclear two-coordinate CuI-pyrazolate complexes through pushing the unfavorable metal-to-ligand charge transfer events to the high-lying ISC pathways. Moreover, an anomaly of much higher quantum yields of a trinuclear AgI-pyrazolate complex relative to its CuI analogue is observed.

Abstract
Described herein is the synthesis and photophysics of two tetranuclear copper complexes, {[3,5-(Pri)2,4-(Br)Pz]Cu}4 and {[3-(CF3),5-(But)Pz]Cu}4 tailor-designed by manipulating the pyrazolyl ring substituents. Unlike their trinuclear analogues, the luminescence of the tetranuclear species is molecular (not supramolecular) in nature with extremely high solid-state quantum yields of ∼80% at room temperature.

Abstract
AbstractTo design innovative and novel optical materials with high mobility, two kinds of disubstituted derivatives for mer-tris(4-hydroxy-1,5-naphthyridinato) aluminum (mer-AlND3) with push (EDG)–pull (EWG) substituents have been designed. The structures of mer-tris(8-EDG-2-EWG-4-hydroxy-1,5-naphthyridinato) aluminum (type I) and mer-tris(8-EWG-2-EDG-4-hydroxy-1,5-naphthyridinato) aluminum (type II) in the ground and first excited states have been optimized at the B3LYP/6-31G(D) and CIS/6-31G(D) level of theory, respectively. It can be seen from frontier molecular orbitals analysis, in all these complexes, the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) is localized on the pyridine-4-ol ring of A-ligand while lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) is on the pyridyl ring of B-ligand in ground state irrespective of electron donor/acceptor substitution present on the ligands similar to that of mer-tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (mer-Alq3) and parent mer-AlND3.The absorption and emission wavelengths have been evaluated at the TD-PBE0/6-31G(D) level and it can be see that all the type I derivatives show blue shift while most of the type II derivatives show red shift compared to mer-AlND3. All the disubstituted complexes have showed hypsochromic shifts in both the absorption and emission spectra when compared with the calculated absorption and emission spectra respectively of mer-Alq3. It can be seen that the reorganization energies of some of the disubstituted derivatives are comparable with mer-Alq3 and these derivatives might be good candidates for emitting materials in OLED.

Abstract
The coordination number of various experimentally known Cu(I) compounds is studied using density functional theory. Various basis sets are tested, aiming to establish a reliable level for prediction of the coordination number of these and other Cu(I) complexes. It is found that most levels exhibit correct trends, namely, the bulkier ligands demonstrate larger preference for coordination of two ligands. Proper absolute values are obtained when dispersion corrections are also included in the calculations. It is concluded that the fairly small modified 6-31+G* basis set due to Pulay represents a good compromise between accuracy and efficiency, followed by Balabanov and Peterson's all-electron aug-cc-pVDZ basis set. The overall energy is decomposed into various components whose relative contribution to the overall tendency of forming a complex with a particular coordination is examined. It is shown that two opposing contributions play a major role: the interaction energy of the ligand being added and the deformation energy of the copper's coordination sphere prior to the ligand addition. The former being a stabilizing contribution, leads to higher coordination numbers while the later, a destabilizing contribution, is shown to favor lower coordination numbers.
