Abstract
Fabricating novel biosensing constructs with high sensitivity and selectivity is highly demanded in food contaminants detection. In this prospect, various nanostructured materials were envisaged to build (bio)sensors with superior sensitivity and selectivity. The desirable biocompatibility, brilliant mechanical strength, ease of surface functionalization, as well as tunable optical and electronic features, portray 2D MXenes as versatile scaffolds for biosensing. In this review, we overviewed the state-of-the-art MXenes-based optical biosensing devices to detect mycotoxins, pesticide residues, antibiotic residues, and food borne-pathogens from foodstuff and environmental matrices. Firstly, the synthesis methods and surface functionalization/modification of MXenes are discussed. Secondly, according to the target analytes, we categorized and presented a detailed account of the newest research progress of MXenes-based optical probes for food contaminants monitoring. The efficiency of all the surveyed probes was assessed on the basis of important factors like response time, detection limit (DL), and sensing range. Lastly, the necessity and requirements for future advances in this emerging MXenes material are also given, followed by challenges and opportunities. We hope that this study will bridge the gap between nanotechnology and food science, offering insights for engineers or scientists in both areas to accelerate the progress of MXenes-based materials for food safety detection.

Abstract
In this work, binary hydrogel films based on carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes/poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) (c-MWCNTs/PDEA) were successfully polymerized and assembled on a glassy carbon (GC) electrode surface. The electroactive drug probes matrine and sophoridine in solution showed reversible thermal-, salt-, methanol- and pH-responsive switchable cyclic voltammetric (CV) behaviors at the film electrodes. The control experiments showed that the pH-responsive property of the system could be ascribed to the drug components of the solutions, whereas the thermal-, salt- and methanol-sensitive behaviors were attributed to the PDEA constituent of the films. The CV signals particularly, of matrine and sophoridine were significantly amplified by the electrocatalysis of c-MWCNTs in the films at 1.02 V and 0.91 V, respectively. Moreover, the addition of esterase, urease, ethyl butyrate, and urea to the solution also changed the pH of the system, and produced similar CV peaks as with dilution by HCl or NaOH. Based on these experiments, a 6-input/5-output logic gate system and 2-to-1 encoder were successfully constructed. The present system may lead to the development of novel types of molecular computing systems.

Abstract
Dual-responsive poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) (PDEA) hydrogel films with entrapped horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and glucose oxidase (GOD) were successfully prepared on electrode surface with a simple one-step polymerization procedure under mild conditions, designated as PDEA-HRP-GOD. Cyclic voltammetric (CV) response of electroactive probe K3Fe(CN)6 at the film electrodes displayed reversible thermo- and sulfate-responsive switching behavior. For example, at 25 °C, the K3Fe(CN)6 demonstrated a well-defined CV peak pair with large peak currents for the films, showing the on state, while at 40 °C, the CV response was greatly suppressed and the system was at the off state. The influence of temperature and Na2SO4 concentration on the switching behavior of the film system was not independent or separated, but was synergetic. The responsive mechanism of the system was ascribed to the structure change of PDEA component in the films with temperature and sulfate concentration. This switching property of the PDEA-HRP-GOD films could be further used to realize dual-responsive catalytic oxidation of glucose sequentially by HRP and GOD entrapped in the films with Fe(CN)6 (3-) as the mediator through changing the surrounding temperature and Na2SO4 concentration. This system may establish a foundation for fabricating a new type of multi-switchable electrochemical biosensors based on bienzyme electrocatalysis.
