Abstract
Tetrahydrofuran (THF) has garnered significant attention due to its pivotal role in biological and chemical processes. The diverse array of conformations exhibited by THF profoundly impacts its reactivity and interactions with other molecules. Understanding these conformational preferences is crucial for comprehending its molecular behavior. In this study, we utilize infrared (IR) resonant vacuum ultraviolet photoionization/mass-analyzed threshold ionization (VUV-PI/MATI) mass spectroscopies to capture distinctive vibrational spectra of individual conformers, namely, "twisted" and "bent," within THF. Our conformer-specific vibrational spectra provide valuable insights into the relative populations of these two conformers. The analysis reveals that the twisted (C2) conformer is more stable than the bent (CS) conformer by 17 ± 15 cm-1. By precisely tuning the VUV photon energy to coincide with vibrational excitation via IR absorption, we selectively ionize specific conformers, yielding two-photon IR + VUV-PI/MATI spectra corresponding to the twisted and bent conformers. This investigation conclusively affirms that both the twisted and bent conformers coexist in the neutral state, while only the twisted conformer exists in the cationic state. These findings not only bridge gaps in existing knowledge but also provide profound insights into the behavior of this pivotal molecule in the realms of biology and medicine.

Abstract
Molecular spectroscopy measures transitions between discrete molecular energies which follow quantum mechanics. Structural information of a molecule is encoded in the spectra, which can be only decoded using quantum mechanics and therefore computational molecular spectroscopy becomes essential. In this review perspective, the role evolution of computational molecular spectroscopy has been discussed with several joint theory and experiment spectroscopic studies in the past decades, which includes rotational (microwave), vibrational and electronic spectroscopy (valence and core) of molecules. With the development in high resolution and computerized synchrotron sourced spectroscopy, spectral measurements and computational molecular spectroscopy need to be integrated for materials development. Contemporary computational molecular spectroscopy is, therefore, more than merely supporting interpretation but leading the innovation. Future development of molecular spectroscopy lies to identify the niche to integrate experimental and computational molecular spectroscopy. It also requires to engineer molecular spectroscopic databases that function according to the universal approaches of computing, such as those in a Turing machine, to be realized in a chemical and/or spectroscopic programable manner (digital twinning research) in the future.

Abstract
This paper investigates vibrational excitation effects on valence electron momentum distributions of dimethyl ether. A symmetric noncoplanar (e, 2e) experiment has been performed for the molecule at a high temperature (980 K) as well as at room temperature (300 K). For comparison, theoretical calculations with vibrational effects being involved have also been carried out. Changes of the momentum profiles with the rise of temperature are observed for the 2b1 and 6a1 orbitals, indicating that distortion of these molecular orbitals is appreciably enhanced upon excitation of the methyl torsional vibrations. The present study provides a way for exploring the influence of vibrational excitation on electronic wavefunctions of molecules.

Abstract
Several model stereoisomers such as ferrocene (Fc), methoxyphenol, and furfural conformers are discussed. It was discovered that the Fc IR spectroscopic band(s) below 500cm−1 serve as fingerprints for eclipsed (splitting 17 (471–488)cm−1) and staggered Fc (splitting is ~2 (459–461)cm−1) in the gas phase. It is revealed that in the gas phase the dominance of the eclipsed Fc (D5h) at very low temperatures changes to a mixture of both eclipsed and staggered Fc when the temperature increases. However, in solvents such as CCl4, eclipsed Fc dominates at room temperature (300K) due to the additional solvation energy. Intramolecular interactions of organic model compounds such as methoxyphenols (guaiacol (GUA) and mequinol (MEQ)) and furfural, ionization energies such as the carbon 1s (core C1s), as well as valence binding energy spectra serve this purpose well. Hydrogen bonding alters the C1s binding energies of the methoxy carbon (C(7)) of anti-syn and anti-gauche conformers of GUA to 292.65 and 291.91eV, respectively. The trans and cis MEQ conformers, on the other hand, are nearly energy degenerate, whereas their dipole moments are significantly different: 2.66 Debye for cis and 0.63 Debye for trans-MEQ. Moreover, it is found that rotation around the Cring–OH and the Cring–OCH3 bonds differ in energy barrier height by ~0.50 kcal⋅mol−1. The Dyson orbital momentum profiles of the most different ionic states, 25a′ (0.35eV) and 3a′ (−0.33eV), between cis and trans-MEQ in outer valence space (which is measurable using electron momentum spectroscopy (EMS)), exhibit quantitative differences. Finally, the molecular switch from trans and cis-furfural engages with a small energy difference of 0.74 kcal mol−1, however, at the calculated C(3)(–H⋅⋅⋅O=C) site the C1s binding energy difference is 0.105eV (2.42 kcal mol−1) and the NMR chemical shift of the same carbon site is also significant; 7.58ppm from cis-furfural without hydrogen bonding.

Abstract
We present in this work a theoretical study of the triple differential cross sections for electron-impact single ionization of 12a' and 9b orbitals of a tetrahydrofuran molecule. The calculations are performed by the multicenter distorted-wave (MCDW) method in coplanar asymmetric kinematics with an incident electron energy of 250 eV, where previous (e, 2e) experiments and theories are available for comparison. The present calculations reproduce the experimental measurements satisfactorily, indicating that the MCDW method can be easily extended to study biomolecules with sufficiently high calculation efficiency.

Abstract
In order to investigate ring-size effects on the stability and spectral shifts of hydrogen bonded cyclic ethers complexes, the strength of hydrogen bonds in gas phase complexes formed between 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) and selected cyclic ethers were examined using FTIR spectroscopy. TFE was chosen as hydrogen bond donor in these complexes, while trimethylene oxide (TMO), tetrahydrofuran (THF) and tetrahydropyran (THP) were selected as hydrogen bond acceptors. Comparable OH-stretching red shifts were observed in the three kinds of complexes. The difference of red shifts is so small (<7 cm−1) for TFE−TMO/THF/THP complexes that one can conclude that their stabilities and the strength of the hydrogen bonds are nearly similar and do not show any marked dependence with the ring size of the hydrogen bond acceptor. The equilibrium constants for the complexation were determined, and atoms-in-molecules (AIM) and natural bond orbital (NBO) analyses were performed to further investigate the intermolecular interactions. Regardless of the ring size, hydrogen bonds in the complexes showed similar strength, in agreement with the observed OH-stretching red shifts.

Abstract
Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA, C5H10O2) is a close chemical analog of the sugar rings present in the phosphate-deoxyribose backbone structure of the nucleic acids. In present report, the infrared (IR) spectra of the size-selected THFA monomer and its dimer have been investigated in a pulsed supersonic jet using infrared-vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) ionization. Herein, the laser light at 118nm wavelength served as the source of "soft" ionization in a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The IR features for the monomers located at 3622cm-1 can be assigned to the intramolecular hydrogen bonding stretch vibrations mainly referring to A and C conformers. Compared with the monomer, however, characteristic peaks for the dimer centered at 3415 and 3453cm-1, red shifted 207 and 169cm-1, respectively, were associated with the intermolecular hydrogen bonding stretch vibrations. Combined with the quantum-chemical calculations, the dimer in the gas phase preferred cyclic AC conformer stabled by forming two strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds, which shown the high hydrogen bond selectivity in the cluster. The conclusions drawn from the role played in the conformational flexibility by the hydroxyl and ether groups may be extended to other biomolecules.

Abstract
The influence of nuclear dynamics in the electronic ground state on the (e,2e) momentum profiles of dimethyl ether has been analyzed using the harmonic analytical quantum mechanical and Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics approaches. In spite of fundamental methodological differences, results obtained with both approaches consistently demonstrate that molecular vibrations in the electronic ground state have a most appreciable influence on the momentum profiles associated to the 2b1, 6a1, 4b2, and 1a2 orbitals. Taking this influence into account considerably improves the agreement between theoretical and newly obtained experimental momentum profiles, with improved statistical accuracy. Both approaches point out in particular the most appreciable role which is played by a few specific molecular vibrations of A1, B1, and B2 symmetries, which correspond to C-H stretching and H-C-H bending modes. In line with the Herzberg-Teller principle, the influence of these molecular vibrations on the computed momentum profiles can be unraveled from considerations on the symmetry characteristics of orbitals and their energy spacing.

Abstract
The influence of thermally induced nuclear dynamics (molecular vibrations) in the initial electronic ground state on the valence orbital momentum profiles of furan has been theoretically investigated using two different approaches. The first of these approaches employs the principles of Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics, whereas the so-called harmonic analytical quantum mechanical approach resorts to an analytical decomposition of contributions arising from quantized harmonic vibrational eigenstates. In spite of their intrinsic differences, the two approaches enable consistent insights into the electron momentum distributions inferred from new measurements employing electron momentum spectroscopy and an electron impact energy of 1.2 keV. Both approaches point out in particular an appreciable influence of a few specific molecular vibrations of A1 symmetry on the 9a1 momentum profile, which can be unravelled from considerations on the symmetry characteristics of orbitals and their energy spacing.

Abstract
The binding energy spectra and electron momentum distributions for the outer-valence molecular orbitals of oxetane have been measured utilizing (e, 2e) electron momentum spectrometer with non-coplanar asymmetric geometry at the impact energy of 2500 eV. The experimental momentum distributions were compared with the density functional theory calculations employing B3LYP hybrid functional with aug-cc-pVTZ basis set. It was found that the calculation at planar geometry (C2v) completely fails to interpret the large "turn-up" at low momentum region in electron momentum distribution of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) 3b1, while the calculations considering the thermal abundances of planar (C2v) and bent (Cs) conformers or the thermally populated vibrational states of ring-puckering motion have significantly improved the agreement. The results indicate that the ring-puckering motion of oxetane has a strong effect on the electron density distribution of HOMO.

Abstract
The results of experimental studies of the valence electronic structure of 1-butene by means of electron momentum spectroscopy (EMS) have been reinterpreted on the basis of molecular dynamical simulations in conjunction with the classical MM3 force field. The computed atomic trajectories demonstrate the importance of thermally induced nuclear dynamics in the electronic neutral ground state, in the form of significant deviations from stationary points on the potential energy surface and considerable variations of the C-C-C-C dihedral angle. These motions are found to have a considerable influence on the computed spectral bands and outer-valence electron momentum distributions. Euclidean distances between spherically averaged electron momentum densities confirm that thermally induced nuclear motions need to be fully taken into account for a consistent interpretation of the results of EMS experiments on conformationally flexible molecules.

Abstract
Two rare cadinane-type sesquiterpenes, lyophyllone A (1) and lyophyllanetriol A (2), were isolated from the mushroom Lyophyllum transforme. The structures were elucidated on the basis of exhaustive NMR techniques, together with MS, UV-Vis and molecular modelling. The absolute configuration of lyophyllone A was determined by ab initio theoretical CD calculation performed by Density Functional Theory (DFT) using the B3PW91/6-31G(d,p) basis set. The experimental CD were found to be in good agreement with the corresponding population-weighted theoretical CD spectra, allowing for the determination of the absolute stereochemistry of the compound.

Abstract
The results of experimental studies of the valence electronic structure of tetrahydrofuran employing He I photoelectron spectroscopy as well as Electron Momentum Spectroscopy (EMS) have been reinterpreted on the basis of Molecular Dynamical simulations employing the classical MM3 force field and large-scale quantum mechanical simulations employing Born-Oppenheimer Molecular Dynamics in conjunction with the dispersion corrected ωB97XD exchange-correlation functional. Analysis of the produced atomic trajectories demonstrates the importance of thermal deviations from the lowest energy path for pseudorotation, in the form of considerable variations of the ring-puckering amplitude. These deviations are found to have a significant influence on several outer-valence electron momentum distributions, as well as on the He I photoelectron spectrum.

Abstract
The ionization energy spectra and electron momentum distributions of formamide were investigated using the high-resolution electron momentum spectrometer in combination with high level calculations. The observed ionization energy spectra and electron momentum distributions were interpreted using symmetry adapted cluster-configuration interaction theory, outer valence Green function, and DFT-B3LYP methods. The ordering of 10a(') and 2a(") orbitals of formamide was assigned unambiguously by comparing the experimental electron momentum distributions with the corresponding theoretical results, i.e., 10a(') has a lower binding energy. In addition, it was found that the low-frequency wagging vibration of the amino group at room temperature has noticeable effects on the electron momentum distributions. The equilibrium-nuclear-positions-approximation, which was widely used in electron momentum spectroscopy, is not accurate for formamide molecule. The calculations based on the thermal average can evidently improve the agreement with the experimental momentum distributions.
