Abstract
We report on a combined experimental and theoretical investigation of the N(2D) + CH2CCH2 (allene) reaction of relevance in the atmospheric chemistry of Titan. Experimentally, the reaction was investigated (i) under single-collision conditions by the crossed molecular beams (CMB) scattering method with mass spectrometric detection and time-of-flight analysis at the collision energy (E c) of 33 kJ/mol to determine the primary products and the reaction micromechanism and (ii) in a continuous supersonic flow reactor to determine the rate constant as a function of temperature from 50 to 296 K. Theoretically, electronic structure calculations of the doublet C3H4N potential energy surface (PES) were performed to assist the interpretation of the experimental results and characterize the overall reaction mechanism. The reaction is found to proceed via barrierless addition of N(2D) to one of the two equivalent carbon-carbon double bonds of CH2CCH2, followed by the formation of several cyclic and linear isomeric C3H4N intermediates that can undergo unimolecular decomposition to bimolecular products with elimination of H, CH3, HCN, HNC, and CN. The kinetic experiments confirm the barrierless nature of the reaction through the measurement of rate constants close to the gas-kinetic rate at all temperatures. Statistical estimates of product branching fractions (BFs) on the theoretical PES were carried out under the conditions of the CMB experiments at room temperature and at temperatures (94 and 175 K) relevant for Titan. Up to 14 competing product channels were statistically predicted with the main ones at E c = 33 kJ/mol being formation of cyclic-CH2C(N)CH + H (BF = 87.0%) followed by CHCCHNH + H (BF = 10.5%) and CH2CCNH + H (BF = 1.4%) the other 11 possible channels being negligible (BFs ranging from 0 to 0.5%). BFs under the other conditions are essentially unchanged. Experimental dynamical information could only be obtained on the overall H-displacement channel, while other possible channels could not be confirmed within the sensitivity of the method. This is also in line with theoretical predictions as the other possible channels are predicted to be negligible, including the HCN/HNC + C2H3 (vinyl) channels (overall BF < 1%). The dynamics and product distributions are dramatically different with respect to those observed in the isomeric reaction N(2D) + CH3CCH (propyne), where at a similar E c the main product channels are CH2NH (methanimine) + C2H (BF = 41%), c-C(N)CH + CH3 (BF = 32%), and CH2CHCN (vinyl cyanide) + H (BF = 12%). Rate coefficients (the recommended value is 1.7 (±0.2) × 10-10 cm3 s-1 over the 50-300 K range) and BFs have been used in a photochemical model of Titan's atmosphere to simulate the effect of the title reaction on the species abundance (including any new products formed) as a function of the altitude.

Abstract
The gas-phase reaction between atomic carbon in its first electronically excited 1D state and water has been studied over the 50-296 K temperature range using a supersonic flow apparatus. C(1D) atoms were produced by pulsed ultraviolet multiphoton dissociation of carbon tetrabromide; a process that also generates ground-state atomic carbon C(3P). The reaction was followed by detecting product H-atoms by pulsed vacuum ultraviolet laser-induced fluorescence. Two types of experiment were performed. First, temperature-dependent rate constants were derived by recording H-atom formation curves at various gas-phase water concentrations at each temperature. Secondly, temperature-dependent H-atom yields were extracted by comparing the H-atom fluorescence intensities generated by the target C(1D) + H2O reaction with those of a reference reaction. The second-order rate constants are large and increase to low temperature, whereas the measured H-atom yields are close to the theoretical maximum value of 2 above 100 K. At 50 K, neither rate constants nor H-atom yields could be derived because of H-atom formation by quantum tunneling in the activated C(3P) + H2O reaction. The present results are discussed in the context of earlier work on the C(1D)/C(3P) + H2O reactions.

Abstract
We investigated the dynamics of the reaction of (3)P atomic carbon with propene (C3H6) at reactant collision energy 3.8 kcal mol(-1) in a crossed molecular-beam apparatus using synchrotron vacuum-ultraviolet ionization. Products C4H5, C4H4, C3H3, and CH3 were observed and attributed to exit channels C4H5 + H, C4H4 + 2H, and C3H3 + CH3; their translational-energy distributions and angular distributions were derived from the measurements of product time-of-flight spectra. Following the addition of a (3)P carbon atom to the C=C bond of propene, cyclic complex c-H2C(C)CHCH3 undergoes two separate stereoisomerization mechanisms to form intermediates E- and Z-H2CCCHCH3. Both the isomers of H2CCCHCH3 in turns decompose to C4H5 + H and C3H3 + CH3. A portion of C4H5 that has enough internal energy further decomposes to C4H4 + H. The three exit channels C4H5 + H, C4H4 + 2H, and C3H3 + CH3 have average translational energy releases 13.5, 3.2, and 15.2 kcal mol(-1), respectively, corresponding to fractions 0.26, 0.41, and 0.26 of available energy deposited to the translational degrees of freedom. The H-loss and 2H-loss channels have nearly isotropic angular distributions with a slight preference at the forward direction particularly for the 2H-loss channel. In contrast, the CH3-loss channel has a forward and backward peaked angular distribution with an enhancement at the forward direction. Comparisons with reactions of (3)P carbon atoms with ethene, vinyl fluoride, and vinyl chloride are stated.

Abstract
Two product channels C3H2F + H and C3H3 + F were identified in the reaction of C((3)P) atoms with vinyl fluoride (C2H3F) at collision energy 3.7 kcal mol(-1) in a crossed molecular-beam apparatus using selective photoionization. Time-of-flight (TOF) spectra of products C3H2F and C3H3 were measured at 12-16 laboratory angles as well as a TOF spectrum of atomic F, a counter part of C3H3, was recorded at single laboratory angle. From the best simulation of product TOF spectra, translational-energy distributions at seven scattering angles and a nearly isotropic (forward and backward peaked) angular distribution were derivable for exit channel C3H2F + H (C3H3 + F) that has average kinetic-energy release of 14.5 (4.9) kcal mol(-1). Products C3H2F + H and C3H3 + F were estimated to have a branching ratio of ~53:47. Furthermore, TOF spectra and photoionization spectra of products C3H2F and C3H3 were measured at laboratory angle 62° with photoionization energy ranging from 7 eV to 11.6 eV. The appearance of TOF spectra is insensitive to photon energy, implying that only single species overwhelmingly contributes to products C3H2F and C3H3. HCCCHF (H2CCCH) was identified as the dominant species based on the measured ionization threshold of 8.3 ± 0.2 (8.6 ± 0.2) eV and the maximal translational-energy release. The C/H and C/F exchange mechanisms are stated.

Abstract
We report integral cross sections for the S(1D2)+HD(j=0)→DS+H and HS+D reaction channels obtained through crossed-beam experiments reaching collision energies as low as 0.46 meV and from adiabatic time-independent quantum-mechanical calculations. While good overall agreement with experiment at energies above 10 meV is observed, neither the product channel branching ratio nor the low-energy resonancelike features in the HS+D channel can be theoretically reproduced. A nonadiabatic treatment employing highly accurate singlet and triplet potential energy surfaces is clearly needed to resolve the complex nature of the reaction dynamics.

Abstract
We report on crossed-beam experiments and quantum-mechanical calculations performed on the CO(j=0) + H2(j=0) → CO(j=1) + H2(j=0) system. The experimental cross sections determined in the threshold region of the CO(j=0 → j=1) transition at 3.85 cm(-1) show resonance structures in good qualitative agreement with the theoretical ones. These results suggest that the potential energy surface which describes the CO-H2 van der Waals interaction should be reinvestigated for good quantitative agreement.

Abstract
We report combined studies on the prototypical S(1D2) + H2 insertion reaction. Kinetics and crossed-beam experiments are performed in experimental conditions approaching the cold energy regime, yielding absolute rate coefficients down to 5.8 K and relative integral cross sections to collision energies as low as 0.68 meV. They are supported by quantum calculations on a potential energy surface treating long-range interactions accurately. All results are consistent and the excitation function behavior is explained in terms of the cumulative contribution of various partial waves.
