Abstract
π-π Stacking is omnipresent not only in nature but in a wide variety of practical fields applied to our lives. Because of its importance in a performance of natural and artificial systems, such as light harvesting system and working layer in device, many researchers have put intensive effort into identifying its underlying nature. However, for the case of π-π stacked systems composed of antiaromatic units, the understanding of the fundamental mechanisms is still unclear. Herein, we synthesized a new type of planar β,β'-phenylene-bridged hexaphyrin (1.0.1.0.1.0), referred as naphthorosarin which possesses the 24π-electron conjugated pathway. Especially, the corresponding antiaromatic porphyrinoid shows the unique property to form dimeric species adopting the face-to-face geometry which is unprecedented in cases of known annulated naphthorosarins. In order to elucidate the intriguing properties derived from the stacked dimer, the current study focuses on the experimental support to rationalize the observed π-π interactions between the two subunits.

Abstract
Salt cocrystals with components that assemble by hydrogen bonds and aromatic anion-molecule stacks (π--π stacks) are reported. U-shaped bipyridines and an isocoumarin carboxylic acid self-assemble to form 5-, 6-, and 10-component aggregates with components in double and quadruple face-to-face stacks. DFT calculations support the π--π stacks to help stabilize the salt cocrystals.

Abstract
Described in this work is the synthesis of a novel dicyano-substituted N-2-aminoethyl-4-(3-pyridinyl)-2-pyridone organic compound (1) that is characterized by several spectroscopic methods. Compound (1) was utilized for the preparation of its perchlorate (2), chloride (3), and bromide (4) salts. Single-crystal X-ray structures of these three salts were determined, and noncovalent weak interactions involving the aromatic rings, anions, and water molecules in (2-4) were investigated in detail. Solid-state UV-vis spectrum of the reported compounds (1-4) was utilized to calculate their optical band gaps, which clearly indicated that they belong to the semiconductor family. Under illumination condition, the magnitudes of electrical properties of (1) and its salts (2-4) improve remarkably although the improvement differs from salt to salt and the result was analyzed theoretically. Salt (2) was tested for its DNA binding ability.

Abstract
Three salts [perchlorate (2), chloride (3) and tetrafluoroborate (4)] were synthesized from a 1-(2-aminoethyl)-6-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-[4,4′-bipyridine]-3,5-dicarbonitrile compound (1) and characterized by spectroscopic and single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. Various noncovalent interactions (e.g., anion⋯π+, π⋯π, lp⋯π) are explored in the solid state crystal structure of the salts. Optical band gaps of all the four compounds were determined from their solid-state UV-vis spectrum. Electrical properties like electrical conductivity, photosensitivity, etc. were calculated and the results revealed that they have potential to act as optoelectronic devices. The values of the electrical parameters increase several times when they are exposed to visible light rather than in dark conditions. The light sensing properties of the salts (2–4) are enhanced compared to that of the mother organic compound 1 but the magnitude of this enhancement is not same for the three salts. This observation has been rationalized by theoretical considerations. Moreover, the DNA binding ability of one of the representative salts (compound 2) was examined to check the biological importance of the synthesized salts. The optical band gap energies in several 2-pyridone derivatives have been measured using solid state UV to explore their semiconductor behavior. The electric current measurements for the four compounds exhibit enhanced photoconduction properties under irradiation of light.![]()

Abstract
In this paper we have explored the structural and energetic landscape of potential π(+)-π(+) stacked motifs, hydrogen-bonding arrangements and anion-π(+) interactions for gas-phase ion pair (IP) conformers and IP-dimers of 1,3-dimethylimidazolium chloride, [C1C1im]Cl. We classify cation-cation ring stacking as an electron deficient π(+)-π(+) interaction, and a competitive anion on-top IP motif as an anion-donor π(+)-acceptor interaction. 21 stable IP-dimers have been obtained within an energy range of 0-126 kJ mol(-1). The structures have been found to exhibit a complex interplay of structural features. We have found that low energy IP-dimers are not necessarily formed from the lowest energy IP conformers. The sampled range of IP-dimers exhibits new structural forms that cannot be recovered by examining the ion-pairs alone, moreover the IP-dimers are recovering additional key features of the local liquid structure. Including dispersion is shown to impact both the relative energy ordering and the geometry of the IPs and IP-dimers, however the impact is found to be subtle and dependent on the underlying functional.

Abstract
2,5-Bis[4-methyl-3-(pyridin-3-yl)phenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazole (L), C26H20N4O, forms one-dimensional chains via two types of intermolecular π-π interactions. In catena-poly[[dichloridozinc(II)]-μ-2,5-bis[4-methyl-3-(pyridin-3-yl)phenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazole], [ZnCl2(C26H20N4O)]n, synthesized by the combination of L with ZnCl2, the Zn(II) centres are coordinated by two Cl atoms and two N atoms from two L ligands. [ZnCl2L]n forms one-dimensional P (plus) and M (minus) helical chains, where the L ligand has different directions of twist. The helical chains stack together via interchain π-π and C-H···π interactions.

Abstract
A new 1,3,4-oxadiazole bridging bent organic ligand, 2,5-bis{5-methyl-2-[(4-pyridyl)methoxy]phenyl}-1,3,4-oxadiazole, C(28)H(24)N(4)O(3), L, has been used to create three novel one-dimensional isomorphic coordination polymers, viz. catena-poly[[[dichloridomercury(II)]-μ-2,5-bis{5-methyl-2-[(4-pyridyl)methoxy]phenyl}-1,3,4-oxadiazole] methanol monosolvate], {[HgCl(2)(C(28)H(24)N(4)O(3))]·CH(3)OH}(n), catena-poly[[[dibromidomercury(II)]-μ-2,5-bis{5-methyl-2-[(4-pyridyl)methoxy]phenyl}-1,3,4-oxadiazole] methanol monosolvate], {[HgBr(2)(C(28)H(24)N(4)O(3))]·CH(3)OH}(n), and catena-poly[[[diiodidomercury(II)]-μ-2,5-bis{5-methyl-2-[(4-pyridyl)methoxy]phenyl}-1,3,4-oxadiazole] methanol monosolvate], {[HgI(2)(C(28)H(24)N(4)O(3))]·CH(3)OH}(n). The free L ligand itself adopts a cis conformation, with the two terminal pyridine rings and the central oxadiazole ring almost coplanar [dihedral angles = 5.994 (7) and 9.560 (6)°]. In the Hg(II) complexes, however, one of the flexible pyridylmethyl arms of ligand L is markedly bent and helical chains are obtained. The Hg(II) atom lies in a distorted tetrahedral geometry defined by two pyridine N-atom donors from two L ligands and two halide ligands. The helical chains stack together via interchain π-π interactions that expand the dimensionality of the structure from one to two. The methanol solvent molecules link to the complex polymers through O-H···N and O-H···O hydrogen bonds.
