Abstract
Polymer/surfactant composites are used in industry as an excipient for water-insoluble solutes. Such enhanced dissolution ability of composite media is related to the spontaneous formation of pre-micellar polymer surfactant aggregates (PS) at a magnitude of order lower than the surfactant critical micelle concentration in water. Combining electrochemical and spectroscopic studies, we investigate the microscopic interfacial structure (i.e., interface electrostatics and surface polarity) of PS formed in composite media. We establish that in a composite system, a mere change in the polymer concentration at a fixed surfactant concentration makes possible to regulate the counter-ion binding ability, surface potential, surface charge density, packing and surface polarity of the PS interface. Our study shows that the higher dissolution of water-insoluble nonionic solutes in composite media is driven by the depressing of surface charge density and polarity of the PS interface. A similar modulation of the PS interface acts as a barrier for the passive relocation of water-soluble charged solutes into the PS pseudo-phase. The time-resolved fluorescence anisotropy study allows us to underline the effect of surface charge modulation on the dynamical aspects of solutes at the PS interface.

Abstract
The bulk and interfacial shear rheological behavior of aqueous solutions of biocompatible polymer HPC has been investigated in the presence of cationic CTAB and nonionic Tween 40 having the same chain length but different head groups. Steady-state bulk experiments depict two distinct regions in the rheogram (Newtonian followed by pseudoplastic). Dynamic experiments suggest that the stability of HPC hydrogels decreases with the increase in surfactant concentration. Interfacial steady shear tests of 2D monolayers of 1 wt % HPC and 1 wt % HPC with varying concentrations of Tween 40/CTAB show a non-Newtonian dilatant behavior at the solution-air interface. However, two distinct dilatant regions separated by a Newtonian region were observed for the same films at the solution-soya oil interface. The strength of films formed at the two interfaces decreases with the increase of surfactant concentration as observed from oscillatory interfacial tests. HPC interacts more strongly with CTAB than Tween 40 both in bulk as well as at the interfaces studied.

Abstract
Polymer/surfactant composites have emerged as a subject of interest for their diverse applications. The improved solution properties in polymer/surfactant composites have been correlated to the formation of premicellar surfactant aggregate-polymer complexes (PS) at a surfactant concentration well below their critical micelle concentrations. Using different physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques here we have studied PS formed by hydroxypropyl cellulose, a nonionic-biocompatible polymer, and alkyl sulfate surfactants of different tail lengths. Our study shows that an increase in surfactant tail length eases PS formation and enhances PS-induced polymer cross-linking and, correspondingly, solution viscosity. PS consisting of shorter tail surfactants and those with longer tail surfactants differ microscopically as the former offers more polar interior than the later as evidenced from fluorescence measurements. Our study establishes that shorter tail surfactants intend to stay loosely packed inside PS and allow larger water penetration, which creates a relatively polar hydrophobic core compared to the PS with longer tail surfactants. The stronger packing of PS with longer tail surfactants is an outcome of favorable interaction between polymer polar groups and surfactant headgroups, which further creates strongly hydrogen-bonded water in their hydration shell.

Abstract
A new type of sustainable light conversion nanocomposite film was fabricated by using carboxymethyl xylan as matrix and xylan-derived carbon dots (CDs) as both light conversion regents and nano reinforcements. The results demonstrate that CDs can not only significantly enhance the mechanical strength of the nanocomposite film because of chemical reaction between CDs and carboxymethyl xylan, but also impart the film with excellent optical properties. With 1.92 wt% CDs, the tensile strength and elastic modulus of the film are increased by 114.3% and 90.7%, respectively. Moreover, the film has typical excitation and emission spectra, enabling the efficient absorption of UV and the conversion of UV to blue light. This xylan-derived light conversion nanocomposite film is expected to be used in agricultural planting and food packaging.

Abstract
The aggregation behaviour of the cationic surfactant carbethopendecinium bromide (Septonex) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in aqueous solution was investigated by steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence experiments. Values of critical micelle concentration were obtained from the pyrene emission polarity index. The micellar aggregation numbers for four different concentrations of both surfactants were determined by steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence quenching methods, using pyrene as a probe and cetylpyridinium chloride as a quencher. The results obtained for Septonex were compared with the aggregation parameters of CTAB. Generally, Septonex micelles were formed by a smaller number of surfactant monomers than in the case of CTAB and the critical micelle concentration of Septonex is lower than that of CTAB. Also, the concentration dependence of the micelle aggregation number was found.

Abstract
Behaviors of cationic and nonionic mixed micelles in the form of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HDABr) and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide-Polyethylene glycol hexadecyl ether (C16E20), in the presence of inert salts (NaBr and 3,5-dichlorosodium benzoate), by the use of reaction probe between Pp and ionized PhSH (Pp = piperidine and PhSH = phenyl salicylate), has been reported in this work. The values of RXBr (RXBr denotes ion exchange constants obtained in the presence of micelles of different structural features) or KXBr (KXBr denotes ion exchange constants obtained in the presence of micelles of the same structural features) for 3,5-Cl2C6H3CO2- were almost the same at three different [HDABr]T (0.006, 0.010 and 0.015 M). The average value of RXBr or KXBr determined, in the presence of pure HDABr micelles, using semi empirical kinetic (SEK) method appeared to be almost 2½-fold larger (RXBr or KXBr = 198) than that in the presence of mixed HDABr-C16E20 micelles (RXBr or KXBr = 78). Rheological measurements indicated the existence of wormlike/twisted micelles and vesicle at 0.015 M pure HDABr, various [3,5-Cl2C6H3CO2Na], and 25 and 35℃ whereas there were evidence of only spherical micelles in the presence of mixed HDABr-C16E20 ([HDABr]T = 0.015 M and [C16E20]T = 0.006 M) at both temperatures.

Abstract
Self-aggregation of the zwitterionic surfactant 3-[(3-cholamidopropyl)dimethylammonio]-1-propanesulfonate (CHAPS) in water and isopropanol-water media, and interaction of the amphiphile with the biopolymer inulin in these media were investigated. The micellar properties of the zwitterionic surfactant and its associated interfacial and bulk properties along with the related energetic, and aggregation number were determined. The different stages of interaction of the CHAPS-inulin combines were identified and assessed. The complexes were formed and aggregated in solution at different stages of their molecular compositions. The aggregated sizes were determined by dynamic light scattering study and the morphology in the solvent removed states were examined using scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope techniques. The results witnessed formation of ensembles of varied and striking patterns.

Abstract
Interactions between uncharged polymers and cationic surfactants are considered weaker than interactions with the anionic analogues. This work describes the binding occurring between methylcellulose (MC) and the cationic surfactant DTAB in aqueous medium. In the absence of salt, MC-DTAB exhibits a maximum in hydrodynamic radius, R(h,slow), with the increase in the surfactant concentration. Otherwise, in presence of salt the MC-DTAB system shows only a linear increase of R(h,slow). CAC is lower than the CMC, which is taken as an evidence of binding between the cationic surfactant and neutral polymer that induces the aggregation process. Static light scattering, rheology and micro-DSC results highlight the hydrophobic MC-DTAB association. Salt-out and the salt-in effects were observed in presence of DTAB, with a clear transition at concentration values close to the CMC, as judged from rheological and micro DSC measurements. Indeed, DTAB affects both the pattern of the sol-gel transition and the gel strength.
