Formation of different gold nanocrystal core-resin shell structures through the control of the core assembly and shell polymerization

Ionic Liquid Modified Porous Polymer as a Dispersive Filter Extraction Adsorbent for Simple, Sensitive, and Efficient Determination of Chlorotriazine Herbicides in Irrigation Water

Triazine herbicides (TRZHs) are widely used in agricultural production, but their improper use can threaten the environment and organisms. Herein, rapid extraction of four chlorotriazine herbicides (Cl-TRZHs) in irrigation water was achieved using an ionic liquid modified porous m-aminophenol formaldehyde resin (IL-MAPFR) as a dispersive filter extraction (DFE) adsorbent. The IL-MAPFR shows excellent adsorption performance for four Cl-TRZHs (simazine, cyanazine, atrazine, and terbuthylazine), with a large specific surface area (158.1 m² g^-1) and fast mass transfer (2 min). The adsorption process conforms to the pseudo-second-order kinetics and Freundlich isotherm models. The four Cl-TRZHs were concentrated 12-16-fold after the IL-MAPFR-DFE method. Coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography, an accurate and sensitive determination method for four Cl-TRZHs in irrigation water was established, with low detection limit (0.11-0.20 ng mL^-1), high recoveries (91.5-110%), and excellent precision (relative standard deviations (RSDs) ≤ 8.4%). This method provides technical support for agricultural irrigation water quality monitoring and has great application potential in water safety, especially pesticide residues.

Polymer and Carbon Spheres with an Embedded Shell of Plasmonic Gold Nanoparticles

Gold nanoparticle (AuNP)/resin nanosphere composites have been prepared in a novel process where the resin functions as both the host and reducing agent. Electron tomography showed that the AuNPs are organized into a concentric shell fully embedded in the resin nanospheres. Pyrolysis of the composite spheres afforded microporous N-doped carbon nanospheres with a pseudoshell of embedded AuNPs. These new composites with uncapped plasmonic nanoparticles have excellent potential for biomedical, catalysis, energy storage, and sensing applications.

Selective detection of ferric ions by blue-green photoluminescent nitrogen-doped phenol formaldehyde resin polymer

The smaller, the more fluorescent: The hydrothermal reaction of phenol with hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) leads to two morphologies of phenol formaldehyde resin (PFR), namely, bigger nanoparticles with feeble green fluorescence and smaller amorphous polymers with strong blue-green fluorescence. It reveals that both of them are doped with nitrogen, and the blue-green photoluminescent polymer is confirmed to sense ferric ion (Fe(3+) ) with high selectivity.

Released plasmonic electric field of ultrathin tetrahedral-amorphous-carbon films coated Ag nanoparticles for SERS

We have demonstrated the plasmonic characteristics of an ultrathin tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) film coated with Ag nanoparticles. The simulation result shows that, under resonant and non-resonant excitations, the strongest plasmonic electric field of 1 nm ta-C coated Ag nanoparticle is not trapped within the ta-C layer but is released to its outside surface, while leaving the weaker electric field inside ta-C layer. Moreover, this outside plasmonic field shows higher intensity than that of uncoated Ag nanoparticle, which is closely dependent on the excitation wavelength and size of Ag particles. These observations are supported by the SERS measurements. We expect that the ability for ultrathin ta-C coated Ag nanoparticles as the SERS substrates to detect low concentrations of target biomolecules opens the door to the applications where it can be used as a detection tool for integrated, on-chip devices.

The growth and enhanced catalytic performance of Au@Pd core-shell nanodendrites

Au@Pd core-shell nanodendrites were synthesized by reducing H(2)PdCl(4) with ascorbic acid onto the surface of Au polyhedra at room temperature. The Au@Pd core-shell nanodendrites consisting of a Au core and nanoporous Pd shell, exhibited plasmonic properties and higher catalytic activity in comparison with Au@Pd core-shell nanocubes.
