Abstract
Tuning the fluorescence of aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-based materials in a reversible way is essential and a requisite for their applications. The multiple host-guest interactions of polypseudorotaxanes (PPRs) could alter the aggregation state of hydrophobic AIE-based polymeric materials and consequently switch the fluorescence. Herein, tetraphenylethylene (TPE) as a typical AIE molecule has been incorporated into the main chains of the guest polyurethane via a step condensation between poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-based dicarbonate and TPE-diamine along with the cleavable disulfide bonds. γ-Cyclodextrins (γ-CDs) can selectively recognize the TPE units at the polyurethane chains to afford a PPR. Hydrophilic PEG segments and γ-CD molecules in the PPR could promote the disaggregation of TPE units, suppressing the fluorescence emission of TPE. To restore the aggregated state and fluorescence of TPE units, tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine (TCEP) and α-amylase are sequentially introduced to cleave the disulfide bonds and cut α-1,4 glycosidic bonds of γ-CD, reactivating the AIE behavior of PPR tandemly and accomplishing the reversible cycle of tuning the fluorescence of TPE. The present study provides a tandem way to switch the AIE behavior of polymeric materials reversibly.

Abstract
Smart or adaptive materials often utilize stimuli-responsive polymers, which undergo a phase transition in response to a given stimulus. So far, various stimuli have been used to enable the modulation of drug release profiles, cell-interactive behavior, and optical and mechanical properties. In this respect, molecular recognition is a powerful tool to fine-tune the stimuli-responsive behavior due to its high specificity. Within this contribution, a poly(2-oxazoline) copolymer bearing adamantane side chains was synthesized via triazabicyclodecene-catalyzed amidation of the ester side chains of a poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline-stat-2-methoxycarbonylpropyl-2-oxazoline) statistical copolymer. Subsequent complexation of the pendant adamantane groups with sub-stoichiometric amounts (0-1 equivalents) of hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin or β-cyclodextrin enabled accurate tuning of its lower critical solution temperature (LCST) over an exceptionally wide temperature range, spanning from 30 °C to 56 °C. Furthermore, the sharp thermal transitions display minimal hysteresis, suggesting a reversible phase transition of the complexed polymer chains (i.e., the β-cyclodextrin host collapses together with the polymers) and a minimal influence by the temperature on the supramolecular association. Analysis of the association constant of the polymer with hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin via 1H NMR spectroscopy suggests that the selection of the macrocyclic host and rational polymer design can have a profound influence on the observed thermal transitions.

Abstract
An easy, dependable, and sensitive cholic acid activity experiment was designed based on β‑cyclodextrin-modified carbon dot (β‑CD-CD) nanoprobes with specific host-guest recognizing ability and photoelectron transfer capability. The β‑CD-CD nanoprobes were characterized by infrared, ultraviolet-visible, and fluorescence spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The fluorescence of the probes under optimized conditions linearly responded to cholic acid concentration from 0 to 650 μmol·L-1 with a detection limit of 25 nmol·L-1. The probes also performed well in detecting cholic acid in serum and urine samples with an average recovery rate of 97.1%-103.4%. Thus, this study provides a reliable, rapid, and easy method of cholic acid detection in body fluids that can be potentially applied in medical studies.

Abstract
A series of copolymers with an adamantyl side group (poly(NIPAM-co-AdMA) and poly(DMAM-co-AdMA)) were prepared by radical copolymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMAM) with a 2-methyl-2-adamantylmethacrylate (AdMA) monomer. The structure and composition of the as-synthesized copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and elemental analysis. Temperature and recognition dual responsivity of the copolymers was investigated by cloud point (Tcp) and dynamic light scattering (DLS), respectively. The results show that the as-synthesized copolymers are a kind of temperature-responsive polymer with a lower critical solution temperature (LCST). Tcp was approximately consistent with the critical temperature of intermolecular copolymer association (Tass) from DLS. For these copolymers, Tcp decreases with increasing content of AdMA unit in the copolymers. After the addition of β-cyclodextrins (β-CD), Tcp increases, and the increment of Tcp values gradually became large with increasing content of AdMA in the copolymers. It is host-guest molecular recognition of β-CD and adamantyl groups that endows the as-synthesized copolymers with recognition-tunable thermosensitivity.

Abstract
Pentacyclic triterpenoids, a class of naturally bioactive products having multiple functional groups, unique chiral centers, rigid skeletons, and good biocompatibility, are ideal building blocks for fabricating versatile supramolecular structures. In this research, the natural pentacyclic triterpenoid glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) was used as a guest molecule for β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) to form a GA/β-CD (1:1) inclusion complex. By means of GA and β-CD pendant groups in N,N'-dimethylacrylamide copolymers, a supramolecular polymer hydrogel can be physically cross-linked by host-guest interactions between GA and β-CD moieties. Moreover, self-healing of this hydrogel was observed and confirmed by step-strain rheological measurements, whereby the maximum storage modulus occurred at a [GA]/[β-CD] molar ratio of 1:1. Additionally, these polymers displayed outstanding biocompatibility. The introduction of a natural pentacyclic triterpenoid into a hydrogel system not only provides a biocompatible guest-host complementary GA/β-CD pair, but also makes this hydrogel an attractive candidate for tissue engineering.

Abstract
Bile acids are gaining increasing importance as building blocks in the development of novel polymeric materials. This is evidenced by the growing number of publications advocating the advantages of their incorporation in the design and construction of materials. Composed of a rigid steroid backbone, functional groups with potential towards diverse reactions, and a biocompatible framework, there are various ways in which these molecules can be utilized to afford biomaterials via distinct architectures. Soft materials utilize the intrinsic capacity of bile acids to self-assemble and have seen a range of applications, most notably in the field of drug delivery. On the other hand, there is also the possibility of including bile acids in the polymer backbone, which has been used in the preparation of elastomers. This review discusses a selection of materials that can be prepared using bile acids and the advantages afforded by these molecules. Focus will be on the development of soft and hard materials, where soft materials are described as being held by weak intermolecular interactions, whereas hard materials are mechanically stronger with bile acids covalently incorporated in the polymer network.

Abstract
Dynamic and reversible polymer networks capable of self-healing, i.e., restoring their mechanical properties after deformation and failure, are gaining increasing research interest, as there is a continuous need towards extending the lifetime and improving the safety and performance of materials particularly in biomedical applications. Hydrogels are versatile materials that may allow self-healing through a variety of covalent and non-covalent bonding strategies. The structural recovery of physical gels has long been a topic of interest in soft materials physics and various supramolecular interactions can induce this kind of recovery. This review highlights the non-covalent strategies of building self-repairing hydrogels and the characterization of their mechanical properties. Potential applications and future prospects of these materials are also discussed.

Abstract
A poly[(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline)-ran-(2-nonyl-2-oxazoline)] random copolymer was synthesized and its thermoresponsive behavior in aqueous solution modulated by the addition of different supramolecular host molecules. The macrocycles formed inclusion complexes with the nonyl aliphatic side-chains present in the copolymer, increasing its cloud point temperature. The extent of this temperature shift was found to depend on the cavitand concentration and on the strength of the host-guest complexation. The cloud point temperature could be tuned in an unprecedented wide range of 30 K by supramolecular interactions. Since the temperature-induced breakage of the inclusion complexes constitutes the driving force for the copolymer phase transition, the shift in cloud point temperature could be utilized to estimate the association constant of the nonyl side chains with the cavitands.

Abstract
A novel chiral acetylenic monomer derived from cholic acid was synthesized and structurally characterized. The monomer underwent precipitation polymerization in tetrahydrofuran/n-heptane mixed solvent with [Rh(nbd)Cl]2 as catalyst. Without adding porogen, porous microspheres were successfully prepared in a high yield (>80 wt %). The formation mechanism of the porous structure was proposed. Circular dichroism and UV-vis absorption spectra demonstrated that the porous microspheres possessed optical activity. The optical activity was originated in the chiral helical conformations of substituted polyacetylene forming the microspheres. The porous microspheres were further used as specific chiral additive to induce enantioselective crystallization of racemic BOC-alanine, in which BOC-l-alanine was preferentially induced forming rod-like crystals with e.e. of 69%. This strongly indicates the significant potential applications of the porous microspheres in chiral technologies. The present study also provides a new approach to prepare chiral porous polymer microspheres.
