Abstract
Current environmental challenges and the shrinking fossil-fuel feedstock are important criteria for the next generation of polymer materials. In this context, we present a fully bio-based material, which shows promise as a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). Due to the use of β-farnesene and L-lactide as monomers, bio-based feedstocks, namely sugar cane and corn, can be used. A bifunctional initiator for the carbanionic polymerization was employed, to permit an efficient synthesis of ABA-type block structures. In addition, the "green" solvent MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether) was used for the anionic polymerisation, enabling excellent solubility of the bifunctional anionic initiator. This afforded low dispersity (Đ=1.07 to 1.10) and telechelic polyfarnesene macroinitiators. These were employed for lactide polymerization to obtain H-shaped triblock copolymers. TEM and SAXS revealed clearly phase-separated morphologies, and tensile tests demonstrated elastic mechanical properties. The materials featured two glass transition temperatures, at - 66 °C and 51 °C as well as gyroid or cylindrical morphologies, resulting in soft elastic materials at room temperature.

Abstract
Abstract
In this study, a styrene/isoprene/styrene (SIS) triblock copolymer was synthesized in an intermeshing, co-rotating, twin-screw extruder. N-butyl lithium was used as the initiator. The styrene and isoprene monomer as well as 1,2-dibromoethane were sequentially added into the extruder. The weight content of isoprene in this copolymer was above 60%. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) results showed that the polystyrene in the copolymer chains was mainly comprised of only one long block. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the polystyrene phase transferred from larger numbers of small microdomains to a continuous aggregation after the coupling reaction. As a result, the tensile stress and ultimate elongation was significantly improved, similar to the commercial product. Traditionally, SIS has only been synthesized by solution polymerization. The present work offers the capacity to synthesize it with very little or no solvent. This method fits the environmentally friendly trend.

Abstract
Lithium hexamethyldisilazide (LiHMDS) in triethylamine (Et 3N)/toluene is shown to enolize acyclic ketones and esters rapidly and with high E/ Z selectivity. Mechanistic studies reveal a dimer-based mechanism consistent with previous studies of LiHMDS/Et 3N. E/ Z equilibration occurs when <2.0 equiv of LiHMDS are used. Studies of the aldol condensation and Ireland-Claisen rearrangement of the resulting Et 3N-solvated enolates show higher and often complementary diastereoselectivities when compared with analogous reactions in THF. The Et 3N-solvated enolates also display a marked (20-fold) acceleration of the Ireland-Claisen rearrangement with evidence of autocatalysis. A possible importance of amine-solvated enolates is discussed.

Abstract
A new hydrocarbon-soluble (additive-free) dicarbanionic organolithium initiator, obtained by a simple halogen-lithium exchange reaction (Gilman's reaction) from a diarylhalide containing a side C15 alkyl chain, has been designed and used to initiate the anionic polymerization of butadiene and styrene. The dilithiated species formed afford well-defined poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene) (SBS) triblock copolymers with a high percentage of 1,4-microstructure polybutadiene (91%) and excellent mechanical properties, such as ultimate tensile strength higher than 30 MPa and elongation at a break of 1000%. This represents a breakthrough in the synthesis of SBS polymers, one of the most used thermoplastic elastomers.
