Abstract
Inspired by the favorable impact of heteroatom-containing groups in phenoxy-imine titanium and late transition metal catalysts, a series of novel pyridylamido hafnium catalysts bearing ─OMe (Cat-OMe), ─CF3 (Cat-CF3), and ─C6F5 (Cat-C6F5) substituents are designed and synthesized. Together with the established hafnium catalysts Cat-H and Cat-iPr by Dow/Symyx, these catalysts are applied in the polymerization of α-olefins, including 1-hexene, 1-octene, and 4M1P, as well as in the copolymerization of these α-olefins with a specifically designed polar monomer. The enhancement of polymer molecular weight derived from catalyst modification and the incorporation of polar monomers is discussed in detail. Notably, the new catalysts are all highly active for α-olefins polymerization, with catalyst Cat-CF3 producing isotactic polymers with the highest molecular weight (Mw = 1649 kg mol-1); in copolymerization with polar monomers, catalyst Cat-OMe yields isotactic copolymer with the highest molecular weight (Mw = 2990 kg mol-1). Interestingly, catalyst Cat-C6F5 bearing a ─C6F5 group in the N-aryl moiety gives rise to poly(α-olefin) with reduced stereoselectivity. The findings of this study underscore the potential of heteroatom-containing groups in the development of early transition metal catalysts and the synthesis of polymer with novel structures.

Abstract
A Ru-promoted reductive cross-coupling of allyl bromides and electron-deficient alkenes to provide terminal 1,7-octadienes with magnesium as a reductant is reported herein. This approach enables the facile construction of a series of complex terminal 1,7-octadienes with an all-carbon quaternary center under mild reaction conditions, and the synthetic utility of the current method has been demonstrated by a gram scale synthesis. Preliminary mechanism investigations suggested that a radical pathway might not be involved in this transformation.

Abstract
The precise use of a widely available and inexpensive metallocene catalyst enabled the synthesis of isotactic polypropylene copolymers characterized by the copresence of randomly distributed cyclic units in the backbone and unsaturated pendant units employing 1,5-hexadiene as comonomer. Optimization of the polymerization conditions avoided the cross-linking phenomena that negatively affects the material processing and final properties, resulting in good yields of samples featuring high molecular masses and a precisely controlled microstructure. Such polypropylene-based copolymers exhibit a broad spectrum of properties ranging from thermoplastic to surprising elastomeric behavior, with the additional value of being functionalizable by post-polymerization reactions.

Abstract
A systematic investigation of the synthesis and characterization of a new class of amorphous atactic cis, trans poly(methylene-1,3-cyclopentane-stat-cyclohexane) statistical copolymers (I) is reported. Production of different grades of I that vary with respect to the ratio of 5- and 6-membered cycloalkane repeat units was achieved through the living coordinative chain transfer cyclopolymerization of different initial feed ratios of 1,5-hexadiene and 1,6-heptadiene comonomers. It was determined that the glass transition temperature, Tg, of I can be systematically increased from -16 to 100 °C as a function of increasing 6-membered ring content, although not in a strictly linear fashion. It was further determined that a small level of 6-membered ring content is sufficient to disrupt the crystallinity of the limiting atactic cis, trans poly(methylene-1,3-cyclopentane) (PMCP) homopolymer that possesses a melting temperature, Tm, of 98 °C. These results establish a foundation for future potential technological applications of this unique class of polyolefin copolymers.

Abstract
Monomers possessing two functionalities suitable for polymerization are often designed and utilized in syntheses directed to the formation of cross-linked macromolecules. In this review, we give an account of recent developments related to the use of such monomers in cyclopolymerization processes, in order to form linear, soluble macromolecules. These processes can be activated by means of radical, ionic, or transition-metal mediated chain-growth polymerization mechanisms, to achieve cyclic moieties of variable ring size which are embedded within the polymer backbone, driving and tuning peculiar physical properties of the resulting macromolecules. The two functionalities are covalently linked by a "tether", which can be appropriately designed in order to "imprint" elements of chemical information into the polymer backbone during the synthesis and, in some cases, be removed by postpolymerization reactions. The two functionalities can possess identical or even very different reactivities toward the polymerization mechanism involved; in the latter case, consequences and outcomes related to the sequence-controlled, precision synthesis of macromolecules have been demonstrated. Recent advances in new initiating systems and polymerization catalysts enabled the precision syntheses of polymers with regulated cyclic structures by highly regio- and/or stereoselective cyclopolymerization. Cyclopolymerizations involving double cyclization, ring-opening, or isomerization have been also developed, generating unique repeating structures, which can hardly be obtained by conventional polymerization methods.

Abstract
The previously unresolved issue of polymerization of allyl monomers CH2 CHCH2 X is overcome by a palladium-catalyzed insertion polymerization of diallyl ether as a monomer. An enhanced 2,1-insertion of diallyl ether as compared to mono-allyl ether retards the formation of an unreactive five-membered cyclic O-chelate (after 1,2-insertion) that otherwise hinders further polymerization, and also enhances incorporation in ethylene polymers (20.4 mol %). Cyclic ether repeat units are formed selectively (96 %-99 %) by an intramolecular insertion of the second allyl moiety of the monomer. These features even enable a homopolymerization to yield polymers (poly-diallyl ether) with degrees of polymerization of DPn ≈44.

Abstract
External control over the rate of dynamic methyl group exchange between configurationally stable active species and configurationally unstable dormant species with respect to chain-growth propagation within a highly stereoselective and regiospecific living coordination polymerization of 1,6-heptadiene has been used to generate a spectrum of different physical forms of poly(1,3-methylenecyclohexane) (PMCH) in which the stereochemical microstructure has been systematically varied between two limiting forms. The application of this strategy to manipulate the bulk properties of PMCH and the solid-state microphase behavior of well-defined PMCH-b-poly(1-hexene) block copolymers is further demonstrated.
