Abstract
Early transition metal-catalyzed hydroaminoalkylation is a powerful single-step method to selectively add amines to polybutadienes, offering an efficient strategy to access amine-functionalized polyolefins. Aryl and alkyl secondary amines were used with a tantalum catalyst to functionalize both 28 wt% (PBD13) and 70 wt% (PBD50) 1,2-polybutadiene polymers. The degree of amination was controlled by modifying amine and catalyst loading in both small- and multigram-scale reactions. The vinyl groups of 1,2-polybutadiene were aminated with ease, and unexpectedly the hydroaminoalkylation of challenging internal alkenes of the 1,4-polybutadiene unit was observed. This unanticipated reactivity was proposed to be due to a directing group effect. This hypothesis was supported with small-molecule model substrates, which also showed directed internal alkene amination. Increasing degrees of amination resulted in materials with dramatically higher and tunable glass transition temperature (Tg) values, due to the dynamic cross-linking accessible to hydrogen-bonding, amine-containing materials. Primary amine-functionalized polybutadiene was also prepared, demonstrating that a broad new class of amine-containing polyolefins can be accessed by postpolymerization hydroaminoalkylation.

Abstract
Poly(1-butene) is a kind of unique poly(α-olefin) material that displays exceptional creep resistance and environmental stress cracking resistance, and therefore currently finds wide application in the fields of packaging, films, pipes, etc. However, very few current researchers are paying attention to functional poly(1-butene) despite its great research significance, perhaps due to the general paucity of catalytic systems for synthesizing this material. Therefore, in the present study, we set out to develop an alternative method to prepare polar poly(1-butene)s. Specifically, 1,2-enriched poly(1,3-butadiene), used as a starting material, was partially hydrogenated to afford a quasi-poly(1-butene) polymer containing C

C double bonds. These double bonds were further modified by subjecting the quasi-poly(1-butene) polymer to a thiol-ene reaction in the presence of thiol compounds, and a series of polar poly(1-butene)s that bore significantly improved surface properties were obtained. By using hydroxyl-containing thiol compounds, ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone was further implemented. Here, polar poly(ε-caprolactone) was incorporated as side chains, and we were able to control the chain length by adjusting the feeding ratio. The water contact angles of the resultant polymers, i.e., those containing the poly(ε-caprolactone) side chains, were as low as 59.4°, indicating a greater hydrophilicity resulting from the incorporation of these side chains. An alternative method for preparing functionalized poly(1-butene) from 1,2-polybutadiene via sequential thiol-ene click reaction and ring-opening polymerization is reported.![]()

Abstract
Copolymerization of 1,3-butadiene with four 1-substituted 1,3-diene comonomers bearing amino and alkyoxy groups by a Ziegler–Natta iron(iii) catalytic system to access in-chain functionalized syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene is reported herein. The polar comonomer content can be easily regulated by varying the comonomer loadings or polymerization conditions, affording functionalized syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene with different amounts of functionalities. The incorporation of a polar comonomer showed little influence on the 1,2-content and stereoregularity of the resulting polymers, giving a 1,2-structure as high as ∼85% and an rrrr pentad of 81.0%. Significantly improved surface properties of the polymers was obtained after incorporation of polar comonomer, as revealed from the remarkably decreased water contact angles. In-chain functionalized syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene through copolymerization of 1,3-butadiene and 1-substituted 1,3-diene comonomer by a Ziegler–Natta iron(iii) catalytic system.![]()
