Abstract
Diene rubbers are polymeric materials which present elastic properties and have double bonds in the macromolecular backbone after the polymerization process. Post-polymerization modifications of rubbers can be conducted by enzymatic or chemical methods. Enzymes are environmentally friendly catalysts and with the increasing demand for rubber waste management, biodegradation and biomodifications have become hot topics of research. Some rubbers are renewable materials and are a source of organic molecules, and biodegradation can be conducted to obtain either oligomers or monomers. On the other hand, chemical modifications of rubbers by click-chemistry are important strategies for the creation and combination of new materials. In a way to expand the scope of uses to other non-traditional applications, several and effective modifications can be conducted with diene rubbers. Two groups of efficient tools, enzymatic, and chemical modifications in diene rubbers, are summarized in this review. By analyzing stereochemical and reactivity aspects, the authors also point to some applications perspectives for biodegradation products and to rational modifications of diene rubbers by combining both methodologies.

Abstract
One of the most fascinating challenges in recent years has been to produce mechanically robust and tough polymers with smart functions such as self-healing and shape-memory behavior. Here, we report a simple and versatile strategy for the preparation of a highly tough and highly stretchable interconnected interpenetrating polymer network (c-IPN) based on butyl rubber (IIR) and poly(n-octadecyl acrylate) (PC18A) with thermally induced healing and shape-memory functions. Solvent-free UV polymerization of n-octadecyl acrylate (C18A) at 30 ± 2 °C in the presence of IIR leads to IIR/PC18A c-IPNs with sea-island or co-continuous morphologies depending on their IIR contents. The lamellar crystals with a melting temperature Tm of 51-52 °C formed by side-by-side packed octadecyl (C18) side chains are responsible for more than 99% of effective cross-links in c-IPNs, the rest being hydrophobic associations and chemical cross-links. The c-IPNs exhibit varying stiffness (9-34 MPa), stretchability (72-740%), and a significantly higher toughness (1.9-12 MJ·m-3) than their components, which can be tuned by changing the IIR/PC18A weight ratio. The properties of c-IPNs could also be tuned by incorporating a second, noncrystallizable hydrophobic monomer, namely, lauryl methacrylate (C12M), in the melt mixture. We show that the lamellar clusters acting as sacrificial bonds break at the yield point by dissipation of energy, while the ductile amorphous continuous phase keeps the structure together, leading to the toughness improvement of c-IPNs. They exhibit a two-step healing process with >90% healing efficiency with respect to the modulus and a complete shape-recovery ratio induced by heating above Tm of alkyl crystals. The temperature-induced healing occurs via a quick step where C18 bridges form between the damaged surfaces followed by a slow step controlled by the interdiffusion of C18A segments in the bulk. We also show that the strategy developed here is suitable for a variety of rubbers and n-alkyl (meth)acrylates of various side-chain lengths.

Abstract
The interest in self-healing, recyclable, and adaptable polymers is growing. This work addresses the reversibility of crosslink formation based on Diels-Alder reaction in copolymer networks containing furfuryl and maleimide groups, which represent the "diene" and the "dienophile," respectively. The copolymers are synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and free radical polymerization. The diene bearing copolymers are crosslinked either with a small molecule containing two dienophiles or with a dienophile bearing copolymer. The influence of the crosslinking temperature on the Diels-Alder reaction is analyzed. Furthermore, the influence of the glass transition temperature and the influence of the density of crosslinking groups on the thermo-reversibility of crosslinking are investigated by temperature dependent infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. It is shown that the reversibility of crosslinking is strongly influenced by the glass transition temperature of the system.

Abstract
ABSTRACT
The importance of dehydrobromination to the cure chemistry of brominated butyl rubber (BIIR) is demonstrated through a combination of cure rheometry studies and model compound experiments. These data show that, while HBr elimination to give an exomethylene conjugated diene is inevitable, subsequent reactivity is highly sensitive to acidity within the mixture. As a result, formulations containing acid scavengers such as epoxides or MgO produce cure dynamics and yields that differ markedly from those of unstabilized analogues. These differences in allyl cation reaction pathways underlie much of the known behavior of BIIR + ZnO compounds and have a substantial effect on the progress of sulfur-based cure formulations. In this report, allyl cation fragmentation and electrophilic addition mechanisms are developed from 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry analysis of model compounds, and their implications for sulfur, ZnO, and sulfur + ZnO vulcanization chemistry are detailed.

Abstract
Butyl rubber (isobutylene–isoprene–rubber, IIR) was functionalized in solution with a nitroxide moiety taking advantage of the unsaturations present in the isoprene units of IIR, and was further grafted with maleic anhydride (MA) or styrene–MA (SMA) to produce IIR-g-MA and IIR-g-SMA. In one of the functionalization techniques used, the molecular structure of the IIR was preserved as the chain-breaking reactions are prevented from occurring. The resulting graft copolymers were tested as compatiblizers/impact modifiers blended with Nylon-6, and one of them was preliminarily tested as a coupling agent in the preparation of nanocomposites of IIR and an organo-clay. Blends of PA-6/IIR-g-MA exhibited a significant increase in impact resistance at increasing loads of the modified IIR, as well as a good rubber particle dispersion in the polyamide matrix. On the other hand, the performance of IIR-g-SMA as an impact modifier of PA, or as a coupling agent in the preparation of rubber-organoclay nanocomposites, is marginal.

Abstract
A functional olefin comonomer containing furan group was designed and implemented in ethylene/propylene copolymerization catalyzed by a traditional Ziegler–Natta catalyst; thus, controllable design of EP rubber with thermoreversible cross-linking capability was realized in a facile way, making the recycle of synthetic rubber more feasible.
