Abstract
Globally, ibuprofen is the third most consumed drug and its presence in the environment is a concern because little is known about its adverse effects on humans and aquatic life. Environmentalists have made monitoring and the detection of ibuprofen in biological and environmental matrices a priority. For the detection and monitoring of ibuprofen, sensors and biosensors have provided rapid analysis time, sensitivity, high-throughput screening, and real-time analysis. Researchers are increasingly seeking eco-friendly technology, and this has led to an interest in developing biodegradable, bioavailable, and non-toxic sensors, or biosensors. The integration of polymers into sensor systems has proven to significantly improve sensitivity, selectivity, and stability and minimize sample preparation using bioavailable and biodegradable polymers. This review provides a general overview of perspectives and trends of polymer-based sensors and biosensors for the detection of ibuprofen compared to non-polymer-based sensors.

Abstract
Controllable fabrication of complex chiral nanostructures of functional materials from achiral systems remains a great challenge. Herein, polyaniline (PANI) hollow nanotwists as complex chiral nanostructures have been prepared by chemical oxidation of aniline in an achiral HCl/isopropyl alcohol/water mixed solvent. The chiral oligoaniline twisted nanoribbons generated at the early reaction stage have been established to act as reactive sacrificial templates for inducing the growth of PANI hollow nanotwists. Single-handed PANI hollow nanotwists achieved by tuning the alcohol content in the solvent have been applied to separate several chiral amino acids from their racemic mixtures with high performance, indicating their high potential for enantioselective separation applications.

Abstract
Polyaniline nanotubes were successfully synthesized by a facile in situ chemical oxidative polymerization method using urea as soft template. When the urea/aniline molar ratio is 3:1, the as-prepared nanotubular polyaniline (PANI-3) shows regular and uniform square capillaries, which provides a high electrode/electrolyte contact, easy ion diffusion and enhanced electroactive regions during the electrochemical process, leading to weak internal resistance and improved electrochemical performance. The PANI-3 sample exhibits a high specific capacitance of 405 F/g at current density of 0.2 A/g, and PANI only has a specific capacitance of 263 F/g. At current density of 1 A/g, the capacitance of PANI-3 is still 263 F/g (64.9% of the capacitance at 0.2 A/g). Such a PANI-3 nanotube, with regular and uniform capillary, is a promising electrode material for high-performance supercapacitors.

Abstract
The fabrication of nanostructured films with tailored properties is essential for many applications, particularly with materials such as polyaniline (PANI) whose electrical characteristics may be easily tuned. In this study we report the one-step synthesis of AgCl-PANI nanocomposites that could form layer-by-layer (LbL) films with poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) and be used for electronic tongues (e-tongues). The first AgCl-PANI layer was adsorbed on a quartz substrate according to a nucleation-and-growth mechanism explained using the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) model, revealing a 3D film growth confirmed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements for the AgCl-PANI/PSS LbL films. In contrast to conventional PANI-containing films, the AgCl-PANI/PSS LbL films deposited on interdigitated electrodes exhibited electrical resistance that was practically unaffected by changes in pH from 4 to 9, and therefore these films can be used in e-tongues for both acidic and basic media. With a sensor array made of AgCl-PANI/PSS LbL films with different numbers of bilayers, we demonstrated the suitability of the AgCl-PANI nanocomposite for an e-tongue capable of clearly discriminating the basic tastes from salt, acid and umami solutions. Significantly, the hybrid AgCl-PANI nanocomposite is promising for any application in which PANI de-doping at high pH is to be avoided.

Abstract
Three new polyaniline (PANI) micro/nanostructures featuring square nanosheets, microspheres and microdisks are successfully synthesized via hydrothermal method. Uniform sizes and thickness of highly crystalline PANI square structural nanosheets can be tuned by the oxidation polymerization in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a template. Mechanistic studies indicate that concentrations of aniline and CTAB, reaction temperature and time have great influence on the morphology of PANI polymers. Particularly, CTAB is essential to determine the morphology of synthetic PANI. In aqueous solution at extremely high temperature and pressure, CTAB provides various self-assembly of micelles, such as spherical micelle, planar bilayer, and lamellar phase, in which corresponding micro/nanostructures are formed. This hydrothermal fabrication gives an excellent example for the preparation of well-defined two-dimensional PANI micro/nanomaterials and potentially for other synthetic polymers.

Abstract
Conducting polymer nanostructures have received increasing attention in both fundamental research and various application fields in recent decades. Compared with bulk conducting polymers, conducting polymer nanostructures are expected to display improved performance in energy storage because of the unique properties arising from their nanoscaled size: high electrical conductivity, large surface area, short path lengths for the transport of ions, and high electrochemical activity. Template methods are emerging for a sort of facile, efficient, and highly controllable synthesis of conducting polymer nanostructures. This paper reviews template synthesis routes for conducting polymer nanostructures, including soft and hard template methods, as well as its mechanisms. The application of conducting polymer mesostructures in energy storage devices, such as supercapacitors and rechargeable batteries, are discussed.
