Abstract
π-Conjugated-polymer-based nanofibers (CPNFs) of controlled length, composition and morphology are promising for a broad range of emerging applications in optoelectronics, biomedicine and catalysis, owing to the morphological merits of fiber-like nanostructures and structural attributes of π-conjugated polymers. Living crystallization-driven self-assembly (CDSA) of π-conjugated-polymer-containing block copolymers (BCPs) has emerged as an efficient strategy to prepare CPNFs with precise dimensional and structural controllability by taking advantage of the crystallinity of π-conjugated polymers. In this review, recent advances in the generation of CPNFs have been highlighted. The influence of the structure of π-conjugated-polymer-containing BCPs and experimental conditions on the CDSA behaviors, especially seeded growth and self-seeding processes of living CDSA, has been discussed in detail, aiming to provide an in-depth overview of living CDSA of π-conjugated-polymer-containing BCPs. In addition, the properties of CPNFs as well as their potential applications have been illustrated. Finally, we put forward the current challenges and research directions in the field of CPNFs.

Abstract
Template-free directed self-assembly of ultrathin (approximately tens of nanometers) lamellar block copolymer (l-BCP) films into vertically oriented nanodomains holds much technological relevance for the fabrication of next-generation devices from nanoelectronics to nanomembranes due to domain interconnectivity and high interfacial area. We report for the first time the formation of full through-thickness vertically oriented lamellar domains in 100 nm thin polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-b-PMMA) films on quartz substrate, achieved without any PMMA-block wetting layer formation, quartz surface modification (templating chemical, topographical) or system modifications (added surfactant, top-layer coat). Vertical ordering of l-BCPs results from the coupling between a molecular and a macroscopic phenomenon. A molecular relaxation induced vertical l-BCP ordering occurs under a transient macroscopic vertical strain field, imposed by a high film thermal expansion rate under sharp thermal gradient cold zone annealing (CZA-S). The parametric window for vertical ordering is quantified via a coupling constant, C (= v∇T), whose range is established in terms of a thermal gradient (∇T) above a threshold value, and an optimal dynamic sample sweep rate (v ∼ d/τ), where τ is the l-BCP's longest molecular relaxation time and d is the Tg,heat - Tg,cool distance. Real-time CZA-S morphology evolution of vertically oriented l-BCP tracked along ∇T using in situ grazing incidence small angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) exhibited an initial formation phase of vertical lamellae, a polygrain structure formation stage, and a grain coarsening phase to fully vertically ordered l-BCP morphology development. CZA-S is a roll-to-roll manufacturing method, rendering this template-free through-thickness vertical ordering of l-BCP films highly attractive and industrially relevant.

Abstract
2D materials such as graphene, LAPONITE® clays or molybdenum disulfide nanosheets are of extremely high interest to the materials community as a result of their high surface area and controllable surface properties. While several methods to access 2D inorganic materials are known, the investigation of 2D organic nanomaterials is less well developed on account of the lack of ready synthetic accessibility. Crystallization-driven self-assembly (CDSA) has become a powerful method to access a wide range of complex but precisely-defined nanostructures. The preparation of 2D structures, however, particularly those aimed towards biomedical applications, is limited, with few offering biocompatible and biodegradable characteristics as well as control over self-assembly in two dimensions. Herein, in contrast to conventional self-assembly rules, we show that the solubility of polylactide (PLLA)-based amphiphiles in alcohols results in unprecedented shape selectivity based on unimer solubility. We use log Poct analysis to drive solvent selection for the formation of large uniform 2D diamond-shaped platelets, up to several microns in size, using long, soluble coronal blocks. By contrast, less soluble PLLA-containing block copolymers yield cylindrical micelles and mixed morphologies. The methods developed in this work provide a simple and consistently reproducible protocol for the preparation of well-defined 2D organic nanomaterials, whose size and morphology are expected to facilitate potential applications in drug delivery, tissue engineering and in nanocomposites.

Abstract
Crystalline/ionic liquid crystalline block copolymers (BCPs) with various compositions have been successfully prepared by sequential reactions. The effect of corona liquid crystalline order on self-assembly of BCPs in selective solvent is investigated in detail. It is found that two-dimensional single crystals with well-developed shapes are formed when the liquid crystalline order is present. By contrast, ill-developed platelets with small size or one-dimensional worm-like micelles are assembled if the liquid crystalline order of the corona segments is lost. It is speculated that the preferred parallel arrangement of liquid crystalline block enables it to expose more growth front of crystals. Accordingly, epitaxial crystallization will proceed readily, leading to fabrication of the well-defined single crystals.

Abstract
Water-cast nanocomposite films formed by poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and Laponite clay were found to display three characteristic levels of structure with large-scale orientation. The first level with the length scale of ca. 30-50 nm was the clay lamellar bundles, which tended to stack perpendicularly to the film surface. The second level with the characteristic length of 1.8 nm was associated with the alternating stacking of the silicate layers and the PEO chains sandwiched between them. The preferred orientations of these two levels of structure were independent of clay content, solvent removal rate for the film preparation, and the crystallization temperature of the PEO chains situating outside the clay bundles. The third level of structure was characterized by the preferred orientation of the PEO crystalline stems with respect to the surface of the silicate layers. Perpendicular orientation always dominated in the nanocomposite films prepared by slow solvent removal irrespective of crystallization temperature. In the films prepared by fast solvent removal, however, parallel crystal orientation set in as the clay concentration exceeded ca. 33 wt %. The preferred crystal orientation was ascribed to the confinement effect imposed by the clay bundles to the crystallization of the PEO chains situating in the interbundle region. In the films cast by slow solvent removal, the weaker confinement associated with the larger interbundle distance led to perpendicular crystal orientation. When the interbundle distance was reduced to ca. 30 nm in the films prepared by rapid solvent evaporation, the strong confinement directed the crystals to form parallel orientation.

Abstract
One-dimensional micelles formed by the self-assembly of crystalline-coil poly(ferrocenyldimethylsilane) (PFS) block copolymers exhibit self-seeding behavior when solutions of short micelle fragments are heated above a certain temperature and then cooled back to room temperature. In this process, a fraction of the fragments (the least crystalline fragments) dissolves at elevated temperature, but the dissolved polymer crystallizes onto the ends of the remaining seed fragments upon cooling. This process yields longer nanostructures (up to 1 μm) with uniform width (ca. 15 nm) and a narrow length distribution. In this paper, we describe a systematic investigation of factors that affect the self-seeding behavior of PFS block copolymer micelle fragments. For PI(1000)-PFS(50) (the subscripts refer to the number average degree of polymerization) in decane, these factors include the presence of a good solvent (THF) for PFS and the effect of annealing the fragments prior to the self-seeding experiments. THF promoted the dissolution of the micelle fragments, while preannealing improved their stability. We also extended our experiments to other PFS block copolymers with different corona-forming blocks. These included PI(637)-PFS(53) in decane, PFS(60)-PDMS(660) in decane (PDMS = polydimethylsiloxane), and PFS(30)-P2VP(300) in 2-propanol (P2VP = poly(2-vinylpyridine)). The most remarkable result of these experiments is our finding that the corona-forming chain plays an important role in affecting how the PFS chains crystallize in the core of the micelles and, subsequently, the range of temperatures over which the micelle fragments dissolve. Our results also show that self-seeding is a versatile approach to generate uniform PFS fiber-like nanostructures, and in principle, the method should be extendable to a wide variety of crystalline-coil block copolymers.
