Abstract
We developed a method for the enantioselective synthesis of germanium-stereogenic compounds by the desymmetric carbene insertion of dihydrogermanes. A chiral rhodium phosphate catalyst decomposes diaryldiazo-methanes to generate rhodium carbenes that insert enantioselectively into one of the two Ge-H bonds of dihydrogermanes to form germanium-stereogenic compounds under mild reaction conditions. By this method, a variety of chiral germanes with germanium-stereogenic centers were synthesized in high yields and excellent enantioselectivities. Kinetic studies of the reaction showed that the diazo decomposition process was the rate-determining step. The remaining Ge-H bond of the chiral germane products provides a possibility for preparing chiral tetra-substituted germanium-stereogenic compounds.

Abstract
Carbon-introducing difunctionalization of C-C double bonds enabled by transition-metal catalysis is one of most straightforward and efficient strategies to construct C-C and C-X bonds concurrently from readily available feedstocks towards structurally diverse molecules in one step; however, analogous difunctionalization for introducing germanium group and other functionalities remains elusive. Herein, we describe a nickel-catalyzed germylative alkylation of activated olefins with easily accessible primary, secondary and tertiary alkyl bromides and chlorogermanes as the electrophiles to form C-Ge and C-Calkyl bonds simultaneously. This method provides a modular and facile approach for the synthesis of a broad range of alkylgermanes with good functional group compatibility, and can be further applied to the late-stage modification of natural products and pharmaceuticals, as well as ligation of drug fragments. More importantly, this platform enables the expedient synthesis of germanium substituted ospemifene-Ge-OH, which shows improved properties compared to ospemifene in the treatment of breast cancer cells, demonstrating high potential of our protocol in drug development.

Abstract
Germylyne complex Cp*(OC)2 Cr≡Ge{C(SiMe3 )3 } (1) reacted with methyl vinyl ketone to give an η3 -allyl complex 2 with an oxagermacyclopentenyl ring. An analogous η3 -allyl complex 3 with a germacyclopentenyl ring was obtained by the reaction with butadiene, a non-polar conjugated molecule, under photoirradiation. These reactions are accompanied by cleavage of the Cr≡Ge triple bond. On the other hand, the reactions of complex 1 with alkynes under photoirradiation resulted in clean substitution of a CO ligand of 1 to afford (η2 -alkyne)germylyne complexes, where the Cr≡Ge triple bond is intact.

Abstract
A general approach towards the synthesis of tetrahydro-4H-pyrazolo[1,5-a][1,4]diazepin-4-one, tetrahydro[1,4]diazepino[1,2-a]indol-1-one and tetrahydro-1H-benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-a][1,4]diazepin-1-one derivatives was introduced. A regioselective strategy was developed for synthesizing ethyl 1-(oxiran-2-ylmethyl)-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxylates from easily accessible 3(5)-aryl- or methyl-1H-pyrazole-5(3)-carboxylates. Obtained intermediates were further treated with amines resulting in oxirane ring-opening and direct cyclisation-yielding target pyrazolo[1,5-a][1,4]diazepin-4-ones. A straightforward two-step synthetic approach was applied to expand the current study and successfully functionalize ethyl 1H-indole- and ethyl 1H-benzo[d]imidazole-2-carboxylates. The structures of fused heterocyclic compounds were confirmed by 1H, 13C, and 15N-NMR spectroscopy and HRMS investigation.

Abstract
Intramolecular alkyne germylzincation giving access to a wide range of germoles is achieved from triarylhydrogermanes in the presence of diethylzinc and AIBN as radical initiator. The reaction proceeds through activation of the Ge-H bond, leading to a heteroarylzinc intermediate after cyclisation, which can then be involved in a post-functionalisation reaction. Our results show that only 5-endo-dig cyclizations occur, with benzogermoles being exclusively obtained.

Abstract
Cross-electrophile coupling has emerged as a promising tool for molecular synthesis; however, current studies have focused mainly on forging C-C bonds. We report a cross-electrophile C-Ge coupling reaction and thereby demonstrate the possibility of constructing organogermanes from carbon electrophiles and chlorogermanes. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions and offers access to both aryl and alkenyl germanes. Electron-rich, electron-poor, and ortho-/meta-/para-substituted (hetero)aryl electrophiles, as well as cyclic and acyclic alkenyl electrophiles, were coupled. Gram-scale reaction, incorporation of the -GeR3 moiety into complex biologically active molecules, and derivatization of formed organogermanes are demonstrated.

Abstract
The synthesis of a polymer containing alternating titanafluorene and arylene ethynylene moieties is described. The polymerization of a 2,7-dibromo-9-titanafluorene derivative with 1,4-dioctyloxy-2,5-diethynylbenzene is carried out at 70 °C for 48 h in tetrahydrofuran (THF) in the presence of palladium dichloride/4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)-9,9-dimethylxanthene as a catalyst and diisopropylamine as a base to produce a dark red polymer. The polymer thus obtained is soluble in organic solvents and stable towards both air and moisture. In the UV-vis absorption spectrum of the polymer, the absorption maxima (λmax) are observed at 321 nm and 395 nm, which are bathochromically shifted compared to those of a model compound of the repeating unit, a 2,7-bis(phenylethynyl)titanafluorene derivative (λmax = 309 nm and 364 nm). The optical band gap (Eg) of the polymer is estimated to be 2.8 eV on the basis of the absorption onset, which is narrower than that of the model compound (3.1 eV).

Abstract
A survey of the state-of-the-art in the development of synthetic methods to incorporate p-block elements into polymers is given. The incorporation of main group elements (groups 13-16) into long chains provides access to materials with fascinating chemical and physical properties imparted by the presence of inorganic groups. Perhaps the greatest impedance to the widespread academic and commercial use of p-block element-containing macromolecules is the synthetic challenge associated with linking inorganic elements into long chains. In recent years, creative methodologies have been developed to incorporate heteroatoms into polymeric structures, with perhaps the greatest advances occurring with hybrid organic-inorganic polymers composed of boron, silicon, phosphorus and sulfur. With these developments, materials are currently being realized that possess exciting chemical, photophysical and thermal properties that are not possible for conventional organic polymers. This review focuses on highlighting the most significant recent advances whilst giving an appropriate background for the general reader. Of particular focus will be advances made over the last two decades, with emphasis on the novel synthetic methodologies employed.

Abstract
The incorporation of heavier Group 14 element heteroles into semiconducting polymers leads to unusual optoelectronic properties. However, polymers containing stannoles have not been accessible to date. We report a synthetic route to a well-defined, stannole-containing polymer, the first example of this class of π-conjugated polymers. This route was made possible by developing difunctionalized stannole monomers and highly tin-selective Stille coupling reactions that leave the tin in the stannole untouched. Compared to poly(3-n-hexylthiophene), the resulting polymer displays a remarkable bathochromic shift in its absorption.

This progress report summarizes the numerous DPP-containing polymers recently developed for field-effect transistor applications including diphenyl-DPP and dithienyl-DPP-based polymers as the most commonly reported materials, but also difuranyl-DPP, diselenophenyl-DPP and dithienothienyl-DPP-containing polymers. We discuss the hole and electron mobilities that were reported in relation to structural properties such as alkyl substitution patterns, polymer molecular weights and solid state packing, as well as electronic properties including HOMO and LUMO energy levels. We moreover consider important aspects of ambipolar charge transport and highlight fundamental structure-property relations such as the relationships between the thin film morphologies and the charge carrier mobilities observed for DPP-containing polymers.

Abstract
The characterization of morphology in blend thin-films of conjugated polymers and functionalized fullerenes is a critical aspect in organic photovoltaic (OPV) device research. Understanding the links between thin-film processing conditions, film nanostructure and photocurrent generation efficiency is necessary in order to develop this technology for commercial viability. Here, we review recent developments of experimental studies that probe sample nanostructure formation and modification during the processing steps commonly used in OPV device fabrication, potentially offering a deeper insight and more rational understating of these conditions.
