Abstract
Fuchsones have wide applications in modern society. Present methods for generating fuchsones have many disadvantages and there are significant limitations for further exploration of fuchsone applications. Herein, we describe a DMSO-promoted direct δ-selective arylation of p-QMs to synthesize symmetrical and unsymmetrical fuchsones under metal-free conditions by employing p-QMs themselves or substituted phenols as aryl sources. As unprecedented methods, these novel strategies present a great advantage and significance for further exploration of fuchsones and the development of new applications.

Abstract
We report herein an asymmetric cooperative process for the enantioselective 1,6-addition of β-ketoesters to in situ generated para-quinone methides with chiral Pd-aqua complexes as mixed Brønsted acid-base catalysts. Excellent yields, outstanding enantiocontrol, and good diastereoselectivity across a broad substrate range are highlights of this transformation. The utility of this reaction is further demonstrated by a facile scale up and subsequent complexity-increasing modifications.

Abstract
Reactions of para-quinone methides (p-QMs) with α-diazo-β-ketosulfones and their corresponding esters as well as simple β-dicarbonyl compounds and β-ketosulfones have been carried out under basic conditions. While the reaction of diazosulfone with p-QMs afforded trisubstituted olefins via deacylative 1,6-addition and elimination, α-diazo-β-ketoesters and various active methylene compounds such as 1,3-dicarbonyls and β-ketosulfones afforded tetrasubstituted olefins via 1,6-addition and aerial oxidation. These simple, environmentally benign, and mechanistically diverse protocols provided the products in moderate to excellent yields and selectivities.

Abstract
In the last few years, there has been an explosive growth in the area of para-quinone methide (p-QM) chemistry. This boom is actually due to the unique reactivity pattern of p-QMs, and also their remarkable synthetic applications. In fact, p-QMs serve as synthons for unsymmetrical diaryl- and triarylmethanes, and also for the construction of diverse range of carbocycles and heterocycles. In the last few years, a wide range of structurally complex heterocyclic frameworks could be accessed through the synthetic transformations of structurally modified stable p-QMs. Therefore, the main focus of this review article is to cover the recent advancements in the transition-metal, Lewis acid and base-catalyzed/mediated synthetic transformations of the stable p-quinone methides (p-QMs) to oxygen- and nitrogen-containing heterocycles.

Abstract
A novel and efficient electrochemical radical δ-H sulfonylation reaction of para-quinone methides (p-QMs) and sodium sulfinates has been achieved under common laboratory conditions. In this strategy, a new C(sp2)-S bond was constructed for the synthesis of 4-((aryl,arylsulfonyl)methylene)-2,5-cyclohexadiene derivatives with a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and mild conditions. Further studies showed that the reaction had an excellent regional selectivity.

Abstract
The efficient synthesis and antifungal exploration of (+)-yahazunol and related natural products are described. Central to this strategy is the Barton decarboxylative coupling, comprising a one-pot radical decarboxylation and quinone addition cascade. The scalable synthesis of (+)-yahazunol was accomplished in five longest linear sequences (LLS) starting from commercially available and inexpensive (-)-sclareol. The divergent translational potential of (+)-yahazunol was demonstrated by the expedient preparation of (-)-zonarone, (-)-isozonarone, (-)-zonarol, (-)-isozonarol, (+)-chromazonarol, and (+)-yahazunone. This approach also enables the formal synthesis of puupehenol, puupehedione, and hongoquercin A. Antifungal evaluation was performed, and this represents the first biological profiles for (+)-yahazunone, (+)-8- O-acetylyahazunone, and (+)-8- O-acetylyahazunol. (+)-Chromazonarol and (+)-yahazunone are promising candidates against Sclerotinia scleotiorum, with EC50 values of 24.1 and 28.7 μM, respectively, demonstrating advantages over the original model (DM) and synthesized heterocyclic mimic (3a) of meroterpenoids. This will favor the establishment of a chemical repertoire in the management of different plant diseases.

Abstract
A 1,6-conjugate addition reaction of the Seyferth-Gilbert reagent (SGR) to p-quinone methides is reported. This base-mediated protocol allows rapid access to diarylmethylated diazomethylphosphonates. The reaction proceeds under mild basic conditions, making it a practical approach for the synthesis of diarylmethylated diazomethylphosphonates with a broad substrate scope. Interestingly, the treatment of the conjugate adduct with a catalytic amount of rhodium acetate resulted in the 1,2-aryl migration of the rhodium carbenoid intermediate to generate the corresponding 1,2-diaryl alkenylphosphonates in excellent yields.

Abstract
Synthesis of the putative structure of the marine natural 15-oxopuupehenoic acid has been achieved starting from commercial (-)-sclareol. Key steps of the synthetic sequence are the Robinson annulation of a β-ketoester and methyl vinyl ketone and an unprecedented cyclization of the resulting α,β-enone, which is mediated by tin(IV) chloride in the presence of N-phenylselenophthalimide. The physical properties of the synthetic compound are somewhat different from those reported for the natural product.

Abstract
Tetracyclic pyrans (+)-chloropuupehenone (1) and (+)-chloropuupehenol (5) and its C8-R-isomer (+)-3 were synthesized via a one-pot condensation of 1-chloro-2-lithio-3,5,6-tris(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)benzene (8) with (4aS,8aS)-3,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydro-2,5,5,8a-tetramethylnaphthalene-1-carboxaldehyde (7). The major condensation product, (4aS,6aR,12bS)-2H-9,10-bis(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-11-chloro-1,3,4,4a,5,6,6a,12b-octahydro-4,4,6a,12b-tetramethyl-benzo[a]xanthene (4), after desilylation provided tetracyclic pyran (+)-(4aS,6aR,12bS)-2H-11-chloro-1,3,4,4a,5,6,6a,12b-octahydro-4,4,6a,12b-tetramethyl-benzo[a]xanthene-9,10-diol (3). At a dosage of 42 mg/rat over 8 h, pyran diol 3 inhibited the intestinal absorption of cholesterol by 71% in rats. Tetracyclic pyran 4 was also converted to o-quinone 28, which inhibited cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) activity and L1210 leukemic cell viability with IC(50) values of 31 and 2.4 microM, respectively. Diol (+)-5 inhibited CETP activity with an IC(50) value of 16 microM. The minor condensation product, (4aS,6aS,12bS)-2H-9,10-bis(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-11-chloro-1,3,4,4a,5,6,6a,12b-octahydro-4,4,6a,12b-tetramethyl-benzo[a]xanthene (6), was transformed into (+)-5 and (+)-1. A stepwise stereoselective synthesis of (+)-1 was also developed utilizing an oxyselenylation ring-closure reaction. The synthetic sequence also produced four biologically active naturally occurring drimanic sesquiterpenes, (+)-drimane-8alpha,11-diol (34), (-)-drimenol (38), (+)-albicanol (39), and (-)-albicanal (31) as intermediates.

Abstract
[formula: see text] The total synthesis of the marine sesquiterpene quinone (+)-puupehenone, a promising new antituberculosis agent, was achieved in 10 steps starting from commercially available (+)-sclareolide. The key feature of this synthesis is the construction of the heterocycle via an intramolecular attack of the terpenoid-derived C-8 oxygen function onto an oxidatively activated 1,2-dihydroxyphenyl unit.
