Abstract
As a sustainable alternative for conventional batch-based synthetic techniques, the concept of continuous-flow processing has emerged in the synthesis of fine chemicals. Systematic tuning of the residence time, a key parameter of continuous-reaction technology, can govern the outcome of a chemical reaction by determining the reaction rate and the conversion and by influencing the product selectivity. This review furnishes a brief insight into flow reactions in which high chemo- and/or stereoselectivity can be attained by strategic residence-time control and illustrates the importance of the residence time as a crucial parameter in sustainable method development. Such a fine reaction control cannot be performed in conventional batch reaction set-ups.

Abstract
The application of a monolithic form of triphenylphosphine to the Ramirez gem-dibromoolefination reaction using flow chemistry techniques is reported. A variety of gem-dibromides were synthesised in high purity and excellent yield following only removal of solvent and no further off-line purification. It is also possible to perform the Appel reaction using the same monolith and the relationship between the mechanisms of the two reactions is discussed.

Abstract
Over the years, organic synthesis has witnessed several improvements through the development of new chemical transformations or more efficient reagents for known processes. Likewise, technological advances, aiming at speeding up reactions and facilitating their work-up, have established themselves in academic as well as in industrial laboratories. In this Minireview, we highlight very recent developments in flow chemistry, focusing on organometallic reagents and catalysts. First, we describe reactions with homogeneous catalysts immobilized on different support materials using the concept of packed bed reactors. In the last chapter, we will discuss applications that utilize organometallic reagents.

Abstract
Supported catalysts having pybox chiral moieties were prepared as macroporous monolithic miniflow systems. These catalysts are based on styrene-divinylbenzene polymeric backbones having different compositions and pybox chiral moieties. Their corresponding ruthenium complexes were tested for the continuous flow cyclopropanation reaction between styrene and ethyldiazoacetate (EDA) under conventional conditions and in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). Ru-Pybox monolithic miniflow reactors not only provided a highly efficient and robust heterogeneous chiral catalyst but also allowed us to develop more environmental reaction conditions without sacrificing the global efficiency of the process.

Abstract
An alternative route from (1R)-(+)-camphor to chiral N-substituted camphor-derived beta-amino alcohol (4b-e) consists of four steps with a total yield of 28%. N-Alkylation of camphor-derived beta-amino alcohol (4a) involves condensation and hydride reduction in one pot without isolation of intermediates. Condensation of 4a with aldehydes or ketones generates a mixture of 1,3-oxazolidines (6) and imino-alcohols (7), which are reduced to 4b-e by NaBH(4).

Abstract
The concepts article describes enabling techniques (solid-phase assisted synthesis, new reactor design, microwave irradiation and new solvents) in organic chemistry and emphasizes the combination of several of them for creating new synthetic technology platforms. Particular focus is put on the combination of immobilized catalysts as well as biocatalysts with continuous flow processes. In this context, the PASSflow continuous flow technique fulfils both chemical as well as chemical engineering requirements. It combines reactor design with optimized, monolithic solid phases as well as reversible immobilization techniques for performing small as well as large scale synthesis with heterogenized catalysts under continuous flow conditions.

Abstract
Crosslinked polystyrene-supported resins 4, 7a, and 7b containing N-sulfonylated beta-amino alcohol in 98, 20, and 40% loadings are prepared. Asymmetric diethylzinc additions to benzaldehyde employing titanium complexes of 10 mol % resins 4, 7a, or 7b are examined and the best performed 7a/Ti(O-i-Pr)4 catalytic system applies to various aldehydes to afford desired secondary alcohols in excellent enantioselectivities up to 95% ee. The resin 7a is reused five times, giving the product with enantioselectivities >or=86% ee and an 81% ee is obtained when the resin is used the sixth time. The used resin 7a is refreshed with 1 M HCl and the asymmetric reaction employing the regenerated resin 7a gives the product in 88% ee.

Abstract
The Michael reaction between methyl 1-oxoindan-2-carboxylate and methyl vinyl ketone was achieved successfully by pumping solutions of the reactants in toluene through a fluid bed of Amberlyst A21 at 50 degrees C. The use of a fluid bed reactor is attractive as it allows gel-type beads, i.e. the type of bead used in most studies of polymer-supported (PS) organic reactions, to be used satisfactorily in a flow system. When polymer-supported cinchonidine was used in place of Amberlyst A21, the Michael product was obtained in high yield with an enantiomeric excess (ee) of 51%. This % ee is comparable to that achieved when the reaction was catalysed by cinchonidine itself.

Abstract
The use of appropriate combinations of polymer-supported reagents, catalysts and/or scavengers is a powerful approach, both for the synthesis of single organic compounds and for parallel syntheses. A further stage of development is the use of such reactants in flow systems. So far, it has been shown that a variety of flow formats afford excellent chemical yields and, where relevant, excellent enantiomeric excesses. The supports have a longer lifetime than in batch systems. 'Flow cascades' promise to be important in future.
