Abstract
The N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed [2+3] and [2+4] annulations of α-chloroaldehydes with γ-/δ-amino-α,β-unsaturated ketones were developed, giving the corresponding pyrrolidones and piperidones in good yields with exclusive trans-selectivities and excellent enantioselectivities.

Abstract
3-Methyl vinyl aziridine undergoes a mild MgI2-promoted S(N)2' ring opening and concomitant cyclization with fumarate Michael acceptors to give trisubstituted pyrrolidines. The process is efficient and highly diastereoselective. This methodology has been applied to a concise asymmetric synthesis of (+)-allo-kainic acid.

Abstract
In this article the utility of phosphoramidite ligands in enantioselective Au(I) catalysis was explored in the development of highly diastereo- and enantioselective Au(I)-catalyzed cycloadditions of allenenes. A Au(I)-catalyzed synthesis of 3,4-disubstituted pyrrolidines and γ-lactams is described. This reaction proceeds through the enantioselective Au(I)-catalyzed cyclization of allenenes to form a carbocationic intermediate that is trapped by an exogenous nucleophile, resulting in the highly diastereoselective construction of three contiguous stereogenic centers. A computational study (DFT) was also performed to gain some insight into the underlying mechanisms of these cycloadditions. The utility of this new methodology was demonstrated through the formal synthesis of (-)-isocynometrine.

Abstract
Reported herein is a novel approach to the total syntheses of (-)-alpha-kainic acid and (+)-alpha-allokainic acid, where the stereochemistries on C(2), C(3), and C(4) of the pyrrolidine core were introduced efficiently and selectively. A regio- and stereoselective C-H insertion reaction was utilized to prepare the gamma-lactam as an intermediate. A Michael-type cyclization of phenylsulfone with a conjugated acetylenic ketone was developed to prepare the tricyclic ketone as a key intermediate for (-)-alpha-kainic acid. Subsequently, a stereoselective dephenylsulfonylation was carried out successfully to secure the cis relationship at C(3) and C(4) centers. An unprecedented acetylation on the phenylsulfone, followed by a stereoselective dephenylsulfonylation, secured the trans relationship at C(3) and C(4) centers in (+)-alpha-allokainic acid.

Abstract
This letter extends the scope of the rhodium(I)-catalyzed allenic Alder-ene carbocyclization reaction to the preparation of delta- and epsilon-lactams from amides. A variety of allenic propiolamides were cycloisomerized to give a number of unsaturated delta-lactams. In addition, allenic propargylamides give good yields of the corresponding epsilon-lactams. Formation of lactams possessing these ring sizes has rarely been accomplished via transition-metal-catalyzed carbon-carbon bond forming strategies. Thus, this approach provides an alternative strategy for synthesizing these substructures. [reaction: see text].

Abstract
[Structure: see text] 6-Vinyl oxazinanones undergo catalytic, diastereoselective, decarboxylative ring contraction to form vinyl azetidines in good yield. Performing the decarboxylation in the presence of Michael acceptors results in decarboxylative olefin insertion to provide diastereoenriched substituted vinyl piperidines.

Abstract
The first radical cyclizations of allenamides are described. These reactions are highly regioselective for the central carbon of the allenic moiety, leading to an efficient preparation of nitrogen heterocycles such as isoquinolines, and carbocycles such as indane and naphthalene derivatives. The exo-cyclization mode could also be achieved in some cases, leading to the synthesis of isoindoles. The feasibility of a tandem radical cyclization using allenamide is also established.
