Synthesis and Characterization of Multiple Functionalized Cyclohexanone Using Diels–Alder Reaction of α-Nitrocinnamate. REACTIONS 2022. Abstract
A systematic study of the Diels–Alder reaction of α-nitrocinnamate was performed. The reaction of p-substituted α-nitrocinnamate with 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadienes smoothly proceeded regardless of the p-substituent, which was either an electron-donating or -withdrawing group. A control reaction revealed that α-nitrocinnamate isomerized during the reaction. Danishefsly’s diene (1-methoxy-3-trimethylsiloxy-1,3-butadiene) facilitated cycloaddition under mild conditions to afford a cycloadduct without the alternation of the diastereomeric ratio. Moreover, the desilylation of the cycloadduct furnished multiple functionalized cyclohexanones.

Abstract
1,2-Annulated pyranose sugars fused with six membered rings have emerged as an important class of carbohydrates with wide biological and synthetic utility. We now describe zinc chloride catalyzed one pot diastereoselective synthesis of sugar fused dioxazinanes from 1,2-anhydro sugars and N-substituted aromatic nitrones. Various aromatic nitrones with different substituents undergo the reaction smoothly. The developed strategy works well with both ester and ether protection on the sugar and proceeds under mild reaction conditions. The mechanism seems to involve activation of the anhydrosugar by ZnCl2 for nucleophilic attack by the nitrone followed by cyclization.

Abstract
Synthesis of linearly fused aromatic systems using a glycal-based diene with an aryne is a long-standing topic of interest in glycal chemistry. We have examined the mechanistic pathways for the transformation of substituted glycals to chiral fused aromatic cores via Diels-Alder (DA) reaction using the SMDACN-M06-2X/6-31G(d) level of theory. The DA reactions of E (1a) and Z (1a') forms of C-2 alkenyl glycal and an aryl glycal (1b) as a diene were examined with a benzyne intermediate generated as a dienophile. The computational results reveal that 1a and 1b can only be transformed into the fused aromatic cores by the base-catalyzed reaction because a [1,5] sigmatropic hydrogen shift is not feasible. The activation free energy barrier for the base-catalyzed proton abstraction process is 4.2 kcal mol-1 and there is almost no barrier for stereoisomeric 1a DA-complexes. The activation free energy barrier values for stereoisomeric 1b DA-complexes for the base-catalyzed proton abstraction process are 10.8 and 12.4 kcal mol-1. The appropriate orientation of glycal-ring-oxygen and hydrogen at the 5th position of Z (1a') forms of C-2 alkenyl glycal facilitates the [1,5] sigmatropic hydrogen shift; however, the base-catalyzed reaction is energetically more favored than the former case. The rate-determining step for 1a and 1a' is the ring-opening step (18.2 and 19.5 kcal mol-1 for the S-stereoisomer), whereas the DA adduct formation step is the rate-determining step for 1b (16.1 kcal mol-1 for the S-stereoisomer). The structural analysis reveals the formation of the preferred S-stereoisomer over the R-stereoisomer with the respective dienes.

Abstract
Six different types of O-benzyl protected proline derivatives have been synthesized from D-glycals and 2C-formyl-glycals. One of the di-O-benzyl protected proline derivatives has been utilized for the synthesis of polysubstituted pyrrolizidines via [3 + 2] cycloaddition in a stereoselective manner. Further, we also report on the stereoselective synthesis of biologically active 1C-aryl/alkyl pyrrolidines i.e. 4-epi-radicamine B, 4-epi-radicamine A, 1C-butyl and 1C-methyl pyrrolidines through double reductive amination of a variety of D-glucal derived diketones with p-methoxybenzylamine.

Abstract
Using palladium-catalyzed decarboxylation, several cascade reactions of allyl and prenyl nitroalkanoates that lead to nitro-containing chemical building blocks are described. A nitronate Michael addition/Tsuji-Trost allylation cascade was developed, leading to functionally dense chemical building blocks. Likewise, a Tsuji-Trost/decarboxylative protonation sequence was developed for the synthesis of orthogonally functionalized 2° nitroalkanes. The latter method provides rapid access to the indolizidine core.

Abstract
TpMo(CO)2(5-alkenyl-eta-2,3,4-pyranyl) diene complexes function as excellent chiral scaffolds for the efficient regio- and enantiocontrolled synthesis of highly functionalized 1-oxadecaline derivatives through a novel transition metal-mediated Diels-Alder reaction. Very good to excellent yields and excellent levels of endo selectivity are obtained, and the reaction gives products with complete retention of enantiomeric purity when carried out with chiral, nonracemic scaffolds. A subtle structural modification on the diene (replacement of an H by a trans-CH3 group) leads to a complete change of regiochemistry, which is discussed from a mechanistic point of view. The role of the eta3-coordinated TpMo(CO)2 moiety is also critical to the further functionalization of the [4 + 2] cycloadducts, as illustrated by the preparation of 20 variously functionalized 1-oxadecaline derivatives (>98% ee when carried out with high enantiopurity scaffolds).
