Abstract
Facile reduction of aryl halides with a combination of 5% Pd/C, B2(OH)4, and 4-methylmorpholine is reported. Aryl bromides, iodides, and chlorides were efficiently reduced. Aryl dihalides containing two different halogen atoms underwent selective reduction: I over Br and Cl, and Br over Cl. Beyond these, aryl triflates were efficiently reduced. This combination was broadly general, effectuating reductions of benzylic halides and ethers, alkenes, alkynes, aldehydes, and azides, as well as for N-Cbz deprotection. A cyano group was unaffected, but a nitro group and a ketone underwent reduction to a low extent. When B2(OD)4 was used for aryl halide reduction, a significant amount of deuteriation occurred. However, H atom incorporation competed and increased in slower reactions. 4-Methylmorpholine was identified as a possible source of H atoms in this, but a combination of only 4-methylmorpholine and Pd/C did not result in reduction. Hydrogen gas has been observed to form with this reagent combination. Experiments aimed at understanding the chemistry led to the proposal of a plausible mechanism and to the identification of N,N-bis(methyl-d 3)pyridine-4-amine (DMAP-d 6) and B2(OD)4 as an effective combination for full aromatic deuteriation.

Abstract
Some recent results on the development of new and reliable procedures for the construction of diverse ring systems based on the chemistry of sp-hybridized species, especially allene functionality, are described. This review includes: (i) synthesis of the multi-cyclic skeletons by combination of the π-component of allene with suitable other π-components such as alkyne, alkene, or additional allene under Rh-catalyzed conditions; (ii) synthesis of heterocycles as well as carbocycles by reaction of the sp-hybridized center of allene with some nucleophiles in an endo-mode manner; and (iii) total syntheses of natural products and related compounds from the sp-hybridized starting materials.

Abstract
A mechanistic study of the thermal Garratt-Braverman/[1,5]-H shift of ene-diallene 6 leading to alkenes (E)-8 and (Z)-8 is reported. The product ratio was found to be temperature-independent and does not agree with the computed energy barriers (i.e., TS2E(⧧) and TS2Z(⧧)). On the basis of experimental and DFT computational results, we propose a mechanism that is strongly controlled by nonstatistical dynamic effects.

Abstract
The scope of the cycloaromatization of propargylic ethers was explored using operationally simple air- and moisture-insensitive conditions. Highly substituted phenol derivatives were obtained in high yields. Mechanistic experiments indicate that the reaction occurs by an electrocyclization followed by 1,3-proton transfer.

Abstract
The intramolecular trapping of allenyl/propargyl anions generated by base treatment of sulfonylallenes was investigated. Treatment of 1-(omega-iodoalkyl)-1-(phenylsulfonyl)allenes with TBAF or NaH in DMF efficiently produced three- to seven-membered 1-ethynyl-1-(phenylsulfonyl) substituted carbocycles. The allenyl/propargyl anions could also be intramolecularly trapped using a terminal aldehyde or alpha,beta-unsaturated ester. The phenylsulfonyl group was found to be replaced by other electron-withdrawing functionalities like ketone and ester groups but not by an alkyl group for this novel ring-closing reaction.

Abstract
A facile synthesis of tetracene sulfoxides and sulfones based on o-diallene annulation initiated cascade cyclization was developed. The photophysical behavior of these tetracene derivatives can be generally rationalized by the presence of electron-withdrawing sulfoxides and sulfones at the 5-position.

Abstract
Intermolecular [4 + 2] cycloaddition of o-quinodimethanes, prepared in situ from ene-bis(propargyl alcohols) and benzenesulfenyl chloride via ene-bis(sulfinylallene) formation, was investigated. Benzene-bridged bis(propargyl alcohols) reacted with both electron-deficient and electron-rich olefins to give the corresponding [4 + 2] cycloadducts. Ethylene-bridged bis(propargyl alcohols) underwent similar cycloaddition with electron-deficient olefins. Construction of some heterocycles based on the newly developed sequential reaction is also described.
