Abstract
This review summarizes recently established methodologies developed for the enantioselective and diastereoselective synthesis of chiral 1,3-oxazines. These compounds are of interest as advanced synthetic intermediates in the total synthesis of structurally complex and biologically active polyhydroxylated alkaloids such as (+)-1-deoxynojirimycin, (-)-anisomycin, (+)-castanospermine, (+)-casuarine, (-)-conduramine F-1, (-)-sphingofungin B, Neu5Ac methyl ester, and other natural products. The devised synthetic approach aims to offer a direct, efficient, and adaptable method for obtaining both pure enantiomers and pure diastereomers. It revolves around utilizing chiral building blocks like syn,syn-, syn,syn,anti-, syn,anti-, syn,anti,syn-, anti,syn-, anti,syn,syn-, and anti,syn,anti-oxazines. By integrating oxazine chemistry with established and innovative transformations, this approach enabled the synthesis of 30 polyhydroxylated amines across various studies conducted between 2007 and 2022.

Abstract
Reported is the first stereoselective method for β-xylulofuranosylation, which employs 3,4-O-xylylene-protected thioglycoside donors. For most acceptors, the best results were observed with a donor (8) that possesses both the xylylene group and a benzoate ester at O-1. To demonstrate its utility, the methodology was applied to the first synthesis of the pentasaccharide repeating unit from the lipopolysaccharide O-antigen of Yersinia enterocolitica serovars O:5/O:5,27, a structure containing two β-xylulofuranose residues.

Abstract
One of the most frequently synthesized iminosugar derivatives is DMDP. Starting from L-sorbose, a practical method for the synthesis of derivatives of this five-membered iminocyclitol has been developed, involving straightforward steps and a convenient selective reduction of a ketoxime intermediate.

Abstract
A systematic study of the suitability of α,α'-dibromo-o-xylene as a reagent for cyclic o-xylylene protection of vic-diols in different monosaccharide substrates is reported. The installation of this protecting group, formally equivalent to a di-O-benzylation reaction, proceeds with good regioselectivity toward 1,2-trans-diequatorial diol systems in pyranose and furanose rings. Initially, the benzyl ether-type derivative of the more acidic hydroxyl is preferentially formed. Subsequent intramolecular etherification toward the equatorial-oriented vicinal OH is kinetically favored. The methodology has been implemented for the simultaneous protection of the secondary O-2 and O-3 positions of a single d-glucopyranosyl unit in cyclic oligosaccharides of the cyclodextrin (CD) family (cyclomaltohexa-, -hepta-, and -octaose; α, β, and γCD).

Abstract
In our ongoing program aimed at the design, synthesis and biological evaluation of novel gem-difluoromethylenated glycosidase inhibitors, the gem-difluoromethylenated polyhydroxylated pyrrolidines as analogues of 2,5-dideoxy-2,5-imino-D-mannitol (DMDP) were designed and prepared. The crystal structure of gem-difluoromethylenated polyhydroxylated pyrrolidine 17 contains an N-H…F intermolecular hydrogen bond. The biological assessment of gem-difluoromethylenated polyhydroxylated pyrrolidines showed that the modification by the gem-difluoromethylene group decreased the inhibitory activities of DMDP.

Abstract
Di-D-fructose dianhydrides (DFAs) comprise a unique family of stereoisomeric spiro-tricyclic disaccharides formed upon thermal and/or acidic activation of sucrose- and/ or D-fructose-rich materials. The recent discovery of the presence of DFAs in food products and their remarkable nutritional features has attracted considerable interest from the food industry. DFAs behave as low-caloric sweeteners and have proven to exert beneficial prebiotic nutritional functions, favouring the growth of Bifidobacterium spp. In the era of functional foods, investigation of the beneficial properties of DFAs has become an important issue. However, the complexity of the DFA mixtures formed during caramelization or roasting of carbohydrates by traditional procedures (up to 14 diastereomeric spiroketal cores) makes evaluation of their individual properties a difficult challenge. Great effort has gone into the development of efficient procedures to obtain DFAs in pure form at laboratory and industrial scale. This paper is devoted to review the recent advances in the stereoselective synthesis of DFAs by means of chemical and enzymatic approaches, their scope, limitations, and complementarities.

Abstract
The alpha,alpha'-dibromo-o-xylylene cap has been installed at the secondary hydroxyls of a single glucopyranosyl residue in cyclodextrins in one pot and with total regioselectivity; the resulting cyclic ether acts as a removable hinge, allowing selective elaboration of the secondary face and modulating both the self-association and the inclusion capabilities of the hosts.

Abstract
Protection of trans-1,2-diol segments as cyclic o-xylylene ethers strongly favours diequatorial over diaxial dispositions; the possibility of using this grouping for remote control of the stereochemistry in the synthesis of spiroketals is here demonstrated by the stereoselective synthesis of tricyclic spirodisaccharides (di-D-fructose dianhydrides).
