Abstract
The lactonization of 2-(2-nitrophenyl)-1,3-cyclohexanediones containing an alcohol side chain and up to three distant prochiral elements is reported by isomerization under the mediation of simple organocatalysts such as quinidine. Through a process of ring expansion, strained nonalactones and decalactone are produced with up to three stereocenters in high er and dr (up to 99 : 1). Distant groups, including alkyl, aryl, carboxylate and carboxamide moieties, were examined.

Abstract
The synthesis of several derivatives of 3-hydroxy-2,4,8-trimethyldec-8-enolide and attempts at the synthesis of 3,4-dihydroxy-2,4,6,8-tetramethyldec-8-enolide (1), a structure which has been assigned to a metabolite of the phytopathogenic fungus, Botrytis cinerea, gave products whose spectroscopic data had significant differences from those reported for the natural product 1. The rare 11-membered lactone rings were constructed by ring-closing metathesis reactions. The increase in conformational restrictions imposed by the substituents has a high influence on the stereochemistry of the ring-closing metathesis reaction and gives rise to a decrease in the yield for the synthesis of 11-membered lactones. The predominant alkene which was obtained was the (Z)-isomer. The observed spectroscopic differences between the synthesized lactones and the natural product and the spectroscopic data of its acetylated derivative 26a allowed us to revise the structure 1 to that of the γ-butyrolactone 26.

Abstract
Ivorenolide A (1), a novel 18-membered macrolide featuring conjugated acetylenic bonds and five chiral centers, was isolated from Khaya ivorensis. The structure of 1 was fully determined by spectroscopic analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and bioinspired total synthesis. Both compound 1 and its synthetic enantiomer 2 showed potent and selective immunosuppressive activity.

The asymmetric synthesis of key fragments of the phytotoxic toxins botcinolide/botcinin is reported. The synthesis of 1 and 1a are based on a convergent route via esterification and alkene metathesis of fragments A, B or C, B, which were obtained by Evans aldol condensation and stereoselective crotylation, respectively.

Abstract
Insertions of silylenes into the allylic carbon-oxygen bond of vinyl epoxides was shown to generate 1,2-silaoxetanes. These intermediates undergo highly diastereoselective additions to aldehydes to form anti-Bredt olefins and trans-dioxasilacyclooctenes. Additions of electrophiles could be performed selectively on the outside face of these strained trans-cycloalkenes to provide valuable functionalized compounds.

Abstract
This communication describes a direct route to functionalized nonracemic trans-dioxasilacyclooctenes that involves stereoselective silylene insertions into vinyl epoxides to provide vinyl silaoxetane intermediates. These strained allylic silanes then undergo uncatalyzed allylation of aldehydes to afford trans-dioxasilacyclooctenes. Diastereoselective additions to these alkenes allow efficient transfer of planar chirality to chirality at stereogenic carbon atoms.
