Abstract
Herein, we describe a metal-free approach for the cross-coupling of arenes or styryl-thianthrenium salts (TTs) with diarylphosphines via an electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complex. Various tertiary phosphines were obtained with high site selectivity and good functional group tolerance. This method enables straightforward construction of C-P bonds via C-H activation of arenes and allows the late-stage functionalization of natural products or pharmaceutical molecules. Mechanistic studies support the approach involving a photoinduced EDA complex.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed linear-selective hydroesterification of vinyl arenes with alcohols enabled by diphosphine ligands derived from bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl]amides has been developed. A variety of 3-arylpropanoate esters were obtained in high yields and regioselectivity. The robustness of this methodology was further demonstrated by the efficient gram-scale synthesis of the ethyl 3-phenylpropanoate as a precursor to hydrocinnamic acid.

Abstract
We describe a general and efficient protocol for the synthesis of organophosphine compounds from phenols and phosphines (R2PH) via a metal-free C-O bond cleavage and C-P bond formation process. This approach exhibits broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance. The synthetic utilities of this protocol were demonstrated by the synthesis of chiral ligands via the various transformations of cyano groups and their applications in asymmetric catalysis.

Abstract
Bimetallic nitrogen (N2) splitting to form metal nitrides is an attractive method for N2 fixation. Although a growing number of pincer-supported systems can bind and split N2, the precise relationship between the ligand properties and N2 binding/splitting remains elusive. Here we report the first example of an N2-bridged rhenium(III) complex, [(trans-P2tBuPyrr)ReCl2]2(μ-η1:η1-N2) (P2tBuPyrr = [2,5-(CH2PtBu2)2C4H2N]-). In this case, N2 binding occurs at a higher oxidation level than that in other reported pincer analogues. Analysis of the electronic structure through computational studies shows that the weakly π-donor pincer ligand stabilizes an open-shell electronic configuration that leads to enhanced binding of N2 in the bridged complex. Utilizing SQUID magnetometry, we demonstrate a singlet ground state for this Re-N-N-Re complex, and we offer tentative explanations for antiferromagnetic coupling of the two local S = 1 sites. Reduction and subsequent heating of the rhenium(III)-dinitrogen complex leads to chloride loss and cleavage of the N-N bond with isolation of the terminal rhenium(V) nitride complex (P2tBuPyrr)ReNCl.

Abstract
Metal-catalyzed asymmetric synthesis is one of the most important methods for the economical and environmentally benign production of useful optically active compounds. The success of the asymmetric transformations is significantly dependent on the structure and electronic properties of the chiral ligands coordinating to the center metals, and hence the development of highly efficient ligands, especially chiral phosphine ligands, has long been an important research subject in this field. This review article describes the synthesis and applications of P-chiral phosphine ligands possessing chiral centers at the phosphorus atoms. Rationally designed P-chiral phosphine ligands are synthesized by the use of phosphine-boranes as the intermediates. Conformationally rigid and electron-rich P-chiral phosphine ligands exhibit excellent enantioselectivity and high catalytic activity in various transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric reactions. Recent mechanistic studies of rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation are also described.

Abstract
The reaction of BrH2B·SMe2 with primary and secondary phosphines affords a range of boronium salts of the form [H2B(PR3)2]Br (PR3 = PHCy21; PHPh2, 2; PH2Cy, 3), which have been fully characterised including solid-state determinations. Reactions of bulky tertiary phosphines, e.g., PCy3 and PPh3, with BrH2B·SMe2 do not proceed beyond the phosphine-stabilised bromoborane adducts, however, the smaller tertiary phosphine PMe2Ph readily proceeds to form [H2B(PMe2Ph)2]Br (4). The formation of the unsymmetrical boronium salts [H2B(PH2Cy)(PHCy2)]Br (5) and [H2B(PHCy2)(PHPh2)]Br (6) was observed by in situ NMR spectroscopy, however, the compounds were found to spontaneously disproportionate to their respective homophosphine boronium cations, even on prolonged storage in solution at -78 °C. Di- and triphosphines were found to form ring-closed boronium salts to afford [H2B(κ2-P,P'-diphosphine)]Br (diphosphine = dppe, 7; dcpe, 8; dmpe, 9; dppf, 10; dppf with [AsF6]- counterion, 11; amphos, 12). The analogous methodology with Br2HB·SMe2 proved less generally applicable due to an accessible decomposition pathway being available to boronium salts bearing primary and secondary phosphines, leading to the formation of phosphonium salts, although [BrHB(dcpe)]Br (13), [BrHB(PMe2Ph)2]Br (14) and [BrHB(amphos)]Br (15) were synthesised with varying degrees of success. Reaction of BrH2B·SMe2 with diphars afforded the boronium salt [H2B(κ2-P,P'-diphars)]Br (16), which featured two pendant arsine arms. Similarly, triphos was found to react with BrH2B·SMe2 to give [H2B(κ2-P,P'-triphos)]Br (17), which featured a pendant phosphine arm. Substitution of the bromide counter anion with either hexafluoroarsenate or hexfluoroantimonate anions revealed weak hydrogen bonds between the P-H bonds of the boronium cations and the anions, that appeared through NMR studies to be retained in solution (where hydrogen bonding order was determined to be Br- > [SbF6]-/[AsF6]-). This was further demonstrated by comparison of solid-state structures and solution NMR data of 1 with [H2B(PHCy2)2][SbF6] (18), 4 with [H2B(PMe2Ph)2][AsF6] (19) and 17 with [H2B(triphos)][AsF6] (20).

Abstract
Active species, product distributions and a suggested catalytic cycle are reported for the dehydrocoupling of the phosphine-borane H(3)B·P(t)Bu(2)H to give HP(t)Bu(2)BH(2)P(t)Bu(2)BH(3) using the [Rh(COD)(2)][BAr(F)(4)] pre-catalyst.

Abstract
Spirocyclic boronium ions based on the 9-bora-9,10-dihydroanthracene scaffold and substituted 2,2'-bipyridyl ligands have been prepared; these cations are shown to be convenient starting materials for the preparation of neutral radicals with significant spin density on boron.
