Abstract
The preparation of valuable and industrially relevant organophosphorus compounds currently depends on indirect multistep procedures involving difficult-to-handle white phosphorus as a common P atom source. Herein, we report a practical and versatile method for the synthesis of a variety of monophosphorus compounds directly from the bench-stable allotrope red phosphorus (Pred ). The relatively inert Pred was productively functionalised by using the cheap and readily available radical reagent tri-n-butyltin hydride, and subsequent treatment with electrophiles yields useful P1 compounds. Remarkably, these transformations require only modest inert-atmosphere techniques and use only reagents that are inexpensive and commercially available, making this a convenient and practical methodology accessible in most laboratory settings.

Abstract
Successive nucleophilic and electrophilic allylation mediated by the bis-Boc-carbonate derived from 2-methylene-1,3-propane diol enables formation of enantiomerically enriched 2,4-disubstituted pyrrolidines. An initial enantioselective iridium-catalyzed transfer hydrogenative carbonyl C-allylation is followed by Tsuji-Trost N-allylation using 2-nitrobenzenesulfonamide. Subsequent Mitsunobu cyclization provides the N-protected 2,4-disubstituted pyrrolidines.

Abstract
In the presence of a chiral iridium complex, commercially available 3-chloro-2-chloromethyl-1-propene (1) was selectively activated for various reductive couplings. Depending on the reaction conditions it allows a selective mono- or bidirectional condensation with one or two external aldehydes with excellent enantiocontrol (>90% ee). This approach occurring simply under mild conditions and avoiding premetalated reagents constructs rapidly chiral homoallylic alcohols, key precursors of important molecular fragments such as furans, pyrans, ketodiols, or 1,3,5-polyols.

Abstract
A diastereo- and enantioselective Michael/Henry/ketalization sequence to functionalized tetrahydropyrans is described. The multicomponent cascade reaction uses acetylacetone or β-keto esters, β-nitrostyrenes, and alkynyl aldehydes as substrates affording tetrahydropyrans with five contiguous stereocenters. Employing a bifunctional quinine-based squaramide organocatalyst, the title compounds are obtained in moderate to good yields (27-80%), excellent enantiomeric excesses (93-99% ee), and high diastereomeric ratios (dr > 20:1) after one crystallization.

Abstract
A detailed account of the first total synthesis of alotaketal A, a tricyclic spiroketal sesterterpenoid that potently activates the cAMP signaling pathway, is provided. The synthesis employs both intra- and intermolecular reductive allylation of esters for assembling one of the fragments and their coupling. A Hg(OAc)2-mediated allylic mercuration is used to introduce the C22-hydroxyl group. The subtle influence of substituents over the course of the spiroketalization process is revealed. The synthesis confirms the relative and absolute stereochemistry of (-)-alotaketal A and allows verification of alotaketal A's effect over cAMP signaling using reporter-based FRET imaging assays with HEK 293T cells. Our studies also revealed alotaketal A's unique activity in selectively targeting nuclear PKA signaling in living cells.

Abstract
We have developed a convergent synthetic route to the potent cAMP signaling agonist (-)-alotaketal A that employs two stages of SmI(2)-mediated reductive allylation reactions for assembling the polycycle and fragment coupling. Also notable are a Hg(OAc)(2)-mediated selective alkene oxidation and the subtlety of the formation of the unprecedented spiroketal ring system. The probes AKAR4 and ICUE3 were used to evaluate the cAMP singaling agonistic activity of (-)-alotaketal A and elucidate its structure-activity relationship.

Abstract
An enantioselective approach to a diastereomer of iriomoteolide-1a is described. Highlighted is a SmI(2)-mediated intramolecular reductive cyclization approach to complex cyclic hemiketals. An acetylide-chloroformate coupling strategy is also featured. Our results show that the structures of iriomoteolide-1a-1c require careful reassessment.

Abstract
The stereocontrolled total synthesis of 4-hydroxydictyolactone (4), a member of the xenicane diterpene family of natural products, is described. These studies feature the development of the B-alkyl Suzuki cross-coupling reaction for direct access to (E)-cyclononenes from acyclic precursors. The Ireland-Claisen rearrangement is effectively utilized to establish the backbone asymmetry of the contiguous C(2), C(3), C(10) stereotriad of 4. The synthesis strategy has devised an intramolecular Nozaki-Hiyama reductive allylation of a formate ester for the stereoselective formation of five-membered lactols 22. In addition, an internally directed S(E)' propargylation using allenylmagnesium bromide is described to establish the stereochemistry of the C(4) alcohol in 27, and the terminal alkyne is subsequently functionalized via a regioselective syn-silylstannylation to yield 30. Finally, the stereocontrolled phenylselenylation of the ester enolate derived from 43 leads to the desired syn-oxidative elimination to yield the natural product 4.
