Abstract
A sterically crowded light-responsive host 1 was synthetized with a 93% yield by applying a post-functionalization protocol utilizing the double amidation of 4,4'-azodibenzoyl dichloride with a readily available 26-membered macrocyclic amine. X-ray structures of two hydrates of trans-1 demonstrate a very different alignment of the azobenzene linkage, which is involved in T-shape or parallel-displaced π⋯π stacking interactions with the pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide moieties from the macrocyclic backbone. Despite the rigidity of the macrocyclic framework, which generates a large steric hindrance around the azobenzene chromophore, the host 1 retains the ability to undergo a reversible cis⟷trans isomerization upon irradiation with UVA (368 nm) and blue (410 nm) light. Moreover, thermal cis→trans back-isomerization (ΔG0 = 106.5 kJ∙mol-1, t½ = 141 h) is markedly slowed down as compared to the non-macrocyclic analog. 1H NMR titration experiments in DMSO-d6/0.5% water solution reveal that trans-1 exhibits a strong preference for dihydrogenphosphate (H2PO4-) over other anions (Cl-, MeCO2-, and PhCO2-), whereas the photogenerated metastable cis-1 shows lower affinity for the H2PO4- anion.

Abstract
The new benzimidazole based receptor Lansoprazole has been used to detect carbonate anion by naked-eye and Uv-Vis spectroscopy. This receptor revealed visual changes withCO 3 2 - anion in ethanol. No detectable color changes were observed upon the addition of any other tested anions. The lansoprazole chemosensor selectively recognizesCO 3 2 - ion over the other interference anions in the ethanol, followed by deprotonation and reflected 1:1 complex formation between the receptor and the carbonate ion. Lansoprazole exhibits splendid selectivity toward carbonate ion via a visible color change from colorless to yellow with a detection limit of 57 μM. The binding mode ofCO 3 2 - to receptor L is supported by Density Functional Theory calculation. Moreover, this receptor shows a practical visible colorimetric test strip for the detection of carbonate ions. The transition states calculation demonstrates the occurrence of reaction from L to L-CO 3 2 - after overcoming an energy barrier of 10.1 kcal/mol, and there is considerable interaction energy between L andCO 3 2 - (94.9 kJ/mol), both of which confirmed that receptor L has high sensitivity and selectivity to the carbonate ion. The theoretical studies were performed to acquire an electronic description of the complexation mechanism byCO 3 2 - as well as to study bonding and structure in the complex. The optimized structures and binding mechanisms were supported with a high correlation and agreement by spectroscopy and DFT calculations.

Abstract
A series of 22-membered unclosed cryptands end-capped with intra-annular methyl (1), phenyl (2), p-tert-butylphenyl (3), and p-nitrophenyl (4) amide substituents (lariat arm) were synthesized to elucidate the effect of steric and electronic factors on their anion recognition behavior. The 1H NMR titrations in DMSO-d 6 with 0.5% water reveal enhanced selectivity for H2PO4 - vs Cl- and PhCO2 -. The para-attachment of the electron-withdrawing nitro group (-NO2 vs -H and -t-Bu) was found to increase anion-binding affinity, whereas the steric bulkiness of lariat arm (methyl vs aryl) has a marginal effect. DFT calculations reveal that binding of H2PO4 - is associated with minimal conformational change in the lariat arm moiety and involve four hydrogen bond acceptor and one donor sites of host.

Abstract
We report the development of multiresponsive thermally sensitive polymers through both supramolecular and reversible covalent strategies as well as their use in controlled encapsulation and release. Novel acylhydrazone-based dynamic covalent polymers displaying lower critical solution temperature (LCST) or upper critical solution temperature (UCST) were synthesized. A remarkable control over thermal phase transition can be tuned through multimodes, such as anions, cations, solvent, pH, and competing components. In particular, anion recognition allowed disassembly and thus led to a significant decrease of UCST in dimethyl sulfoxide, and the combination of anion and solvent effects offered additional handle for control. Moreover, the use of anions, cations, as well as pH change was employed for the modulation of LCST-type polymer in water. Furthermore, switching on/off thermoresponsiveness was readily achieved by dynamic covalent exchange. Mechanistic studies also shed light on stimuli-induced changes in aggregation behaviors. Finally, thermally controlled encapsulation and release of hydrophobic and hydrophilic dyes were realized with great repeatability and reversibility, respectively, showing potential in delivery and sensing. The results and strategies described should provide opportunities for many aspects, including dynamic assemblies, complex systems, and adaptive materials.

Abstract
A novel class of amide-functionalized pillar[5]arenes, that is, alkyl and aryl amide derivatives, has been synthesized. Highly selective binding of the dihydrogen phosphate anion over a range of anions by the new synthetic receptors is reported. First, the "binding strength-selectivity" relationship has been decided for the pillar[5]arene/anion systems.

Abstract
The aim of this contribution is to provide an introduction and a brief summary of the principle of fluorescence molecular sensors specific to inorganic phosphate (Pi) and inorganic pyrophosphate (PPi) as well as their applications. In our introduction we describe the impact of both Pi and PPi in the living organism and in the environment, followed by a description of the principle of fluorescence molecular sensors and the sensing mechanism in solution. We then focus on exciting research which has emerged in recent years on the development of fluorescent sensors specific to Pi and PPi, categorized by chemical interactions between the sensor and the target molecule, such as hydrogen bonding, coordination chemistry, displacement assay, aggregation induced emission or quenching, and chemical reactions.
