Abstract
The aryl O-carbamate (ArOAm) group is among the strongest of the directed metalation groups (DMGs) in directed ortho metalation (DoM) chemistry, especially in the form Ar-OCONEt2. Since the last comprehensive review of metalation chemistry involving ArOAms (published more than 30 years ago), the field has expanded significantly. For example, it now encompasses new substrates, solvent systems, and metalating agents, while conditions have been developed enabling metalation of ArOAm to be conducted in a green and sustainable manner. The ArOAm group has also proven to be effective in the anionic ortho-Fries (AoF) rearrangement, Directed remote metalation (DreM), iterative DoM sequences, and DoM-halogen dance (HalD) synthetic strategies and has been transformed into a diverse range of functionalities and coupled with various groups through a range of cross-coupling (CC) strategies. Of ultimate value, the ArOAm group has demonstrated utility in the synthesis of a diverse range of bioactive and polycyclic aromatic compounds for various applications.

Abstract
The principle of vinylogy states that the electronic effects of a functional group in a molecule are possibly transmitted to a distal position through interposed conjugated multiple bonds. As an emblematic case, the nucleophilic character of a π-extended enolate-type chain system may be relayed from the legitimate α-site to the vinylogous γ, ε, ..., ω remote carbon sites along the chain, provided that suitable HOMO-raising strategies are adopted to transform the unsaturated pronucleophilic precursors into the reactive polyenolate species. On the other hand, when "unnatural" carbonyl ipso-sites are activated as nucleophiles (umpolung), vinylogation extends the nucleophilic character to "unnatural" β, δ, ... remote sites. Merging the principle of vinylogy with activation modalities and concepts such as iminium ion/enamine organocatalysis, NHC-organocatalysis, cooperative organo/metal catalysis, bifunctional organocatalysis, dicyanoalkylidene activation, and organocascade reactions represents an impressive step forward for all vinylogous transformations. This review article celebrates this evolutionary progress, by collecting, comparing, and critically describing the achievements made over the nine year period 2010-2018, in the generation of vinylogous enolate-type donor substrates and their use in chemical synthesis.

Abstract
Chiral spirocarbocyclic skeletons are ubiquitous in natural products. An intramolecular Tsuji-Trost (T-T) α-allylation of simple cyclic ketones is a reasonable approach to construct chiral spriocarbocyclic motifs; however, it has been a challenging approach despite many excellent intermolecular examples. For the first time, this has been achieved by a Ru/H+ combined catalyst that dehydratively cyclizes racemic allylic alcohols comprising a simple ketone via simultaneous activation of the C=O and OH groups. This chiral technology facilitates the construction of various spirocarbocycles containing two contiguous spiro all-carbon quaternary and tertiary stereocenters. Among four possible stereoisomers, one stereoisomer can be selectively produced in high yield, enhancing the feasibility of the T-T strategy, particularly in the synthesis of spirocarbocycles.

Abstract
In the Diels–Alder reactions of 2,4-dienones with two dienophiles, cinchona alkaloid acts as an efficient bifunctional catalyst by generating an extended trienamine π-conjugated system and by orienting the dienophile at an appropriate position for a cycloaddition reaction.
