Indium(III) Halide-Catalyzed UV-Irradiated Radical Coupling of Iodomethylphosphorus Compounds with Various Organostannanes

Tandem SN2 Nucleophilic Substitution/Phospho-Dieckmann Reaction: One-Step Synthesis of 2-Phosphonyl-3-hydroxybenzo[b]thiophenes

A novel and efficient tandem SN2 nucleophilic substitution/Dieckmann condensation reaction of α-iodomethyl phosphine oxide with methyl thiosalicylate derivatives has been developed by using NaOH as a base, which enables the expeditious synthesis of 2-phosphonyl-3-hydroxybenzo[b]thiophene derivatives in moderate to high yields under simple conditions. This research provides not only a convenient method for the functionalization of benzo[b]thiophenes at the 2-position and 3-position but also new organophosphorus molecules. Furthermore, several new phosphonyl-substituted benzo[b]thiophenes were obtained from the resultant 2-phosphonyl-3-hydroxybenzo[b]thiophenes.

A radical-mediated 1,3,4-trifunctionalization cascade of 1,3-enynes with sulfinates and tert-butyl nitrite: facile access to sulfonyl isoxazoles

An unprecedented indium-promoted three-component 1,3,4-trifunctionalization cascade of 1,3-enynes with sulfinates and tert-butyl nitrite for producing 5-sulfonylisoxazoles via [3+2] annulation is reported.

Alkynylation of radicals: spotlight on the "Third Way" to transfer triple bonds

The alkynylation of radical intermediates has been known since a long time, but had not been broadly applied in synthetic chemistry, in contrast to the alkynylation of either electrophiles or nucleophiles. In the last decade however, it has been intensively investigated leading to new disconnections to introduce versatile triple bonds into organic compounds. Nowadays, such processes are important alternatives to classical nucleophilic and electrophilic alkynylations. Efficient alkyne transfer reagents, in particular arylsulfones and hypervalent iodine reagents were introduced. Direct alkynylation, as well as cascade reactions, were subsequently developed. If relatively harsh conditions were required in the past, a new era began with progress in photoredox and transition metal catalysis. Starting from various radical precursors, alkynylations under very mild reaction conditions were rapidly discovered. This review covers the evolution of radical alkynylation, from its emergence to its current intensive stage of development. It will focus in particular on improvements for the generation of radicals and on the extension of the scope of radical precursors and alkyne sources.

An Oxidative Dearomatization Approach To Prepare the Pentacyclic Core of Ryanodol

An approach to synthesize the pentacyclic framework of the polyol diterpenoid ryanodol is reported. The ABC tricycle was constructed by a Co-mediated Pauson-Khand reaction, and both radical and anionic cyclization pathways were developed to form the E-ring. In addition, a reaction sequence involving SeO2-mediated enone oxidation and hydroxyl-directed oxy-Michael addition was developed to introduce the A-ring oxidation. The feasibility of forming the bridging D-ring by an oxidative dearomatization was established.
