Abstract
Isocyanide-based multicomponent reactions claim a one century-old history of flourishing developments. On the other hand, the enormous impact of recent progresses in visible light photocatalysis has boosted the identification of new straightforward and green approaches to both new and known chemical entities. In this context, the application of visible light photocatalytic conditions to multicomponent processes has been promoting key stimulating advancements. Spanning from radical-polar crossover pathways, to photoinduced and self-catalyzed transformations, to reactions involving the generation of imidoyl radical species, the present literature analysis would provide a general and critical overview about the potentialities and challenges of exploiting isocyanides in visible light photocatalytic multicomponent reactions.

Abstract
Oxidative isocyanide-based multicomponent reactions (oxidative IMCRs) are very useful tools for the rapid construction of molecular diversity starting from readily available and stable substrates. Despite all their benefits, such multicomponent reactions are underdeveloped and strictly limited to 3-component processes. Indeed, in the presence of several reaction partners, the oxidation event needs to be rigorously chemoselective, which becomes incredibly more intricate as the number of reactive components increases. Nonetheless, we could overcome this significant pitfall and reach the first oxidative Ugi-type 4-IMCR by capitalizing on a very mild and green TEMPO-catalyzed electro-oxidation process. Employing alcohols as aldehyde surrogates and in the notable absence of any supporting electrolyte, this transformation proved to be extremely chemoselective in the presence of an amine and was compatible with a wide range of alcohols, amines, isocyanides, and carboxylic acids.

Abstract
Chiral amino acid-derived formamides represent one of the most versatile components in multicomponent reactions. Herein, we describe a facile synthesis of Nβ-protected amino sulfenyl methyl formamides and sulfonyl methyl formamides via the Mannich reaction of Nα-protected amino alkyl thiols followed by oxidation using 3-chloroperbenzoic acid (m-CPBA). This protocol is applicable to a wide range of Fmoc- and Cbz-protected amino acids. Notably, the reaction provides high yield and retains the stereochemistry of the chiral center of the starting component.

Abstract
A simply and green synthetic protocol based on the selective laccase-oxidation of alcohol to a corresponding aldehyde and a following Ugi reaction in a micellar system made of SDS was developed and is reported herein. Special emphasis was placed on the metal-free chemoenzymatic tandem reaction based on alcohol oxidation strategies using molecular oxygen from air, followed by an Ugi reaction. The reaction was carried out without the use of a transition metal or organic solvents as a reaction medium. The presented protocol offers an efficient and environmentally friendly procedure.

Abstract
The preparation, structure, and chemistry of hypervalent iodine compounds are reviewed with emphasis on their synthetic application. Compounds of iodine possess reactivity similar to that of transition metals, but have the advantage of environmental sustainability and efficient utilization of natural resources. These compounds are widely used in organic synthesis as selective oxidants and environmentally friendly reagents. Synthetic uses of hypervalent iodine reagents in halogenation reactions, various oxidations, rearrangements, aminations, C-C bond-forming reactions, and transition metal-catalyzed reactions are summarized and discussed. Recent discovery of hypervalent catalytic systems and recyclable reagents, and the development of new enantioselective reactions using chiral hypervalent iodine compounds represent a particularly important achievement in the field of hypervalent iodine chemistry. One of the goals of this Review is to attract the attention of the scientific community as to the benefits of using hypervalent iodine compounds as an environmentally sustainable alternative to heavy metals.

Abstract
A simple procedure for the synthesis of a variety of o-carboxyarylacrylic acids has been developed with Oxone (2KHSO5·KHSO4·K2SO4); the oxidation reaction involves the stirring of methoxy/hydroxy-substituted naphthalenes, phenanthrenes, anthracenes, etc. with Oxone in an acetonitrile-water mixture (1:1, v/v) at rt. Mechanistically, the reaction proceeds via initial oxidation of naphthalene to o-quinone, which undergoes cleavage to the corresponding o-carboxyarylacrylic acid. The higher aromatics are found to yield carboxymethyl lactones derived from the initially formed o-carboxyarylacrylic acids.

Abstract
Hypervalent iodine chemistry is now a well-established area of organic chemistry. Novel hypervalent iodine reagents have been introduced in many different transformations owing to their mild reaction conditions and environmentally friendly nature. Recently, these reagents have received particular attention because of their applications in catalysis. Numerous hypervalent iodine-catalyzed oxidative functionalizations such as oxidations of various alcohols and phenols, α-functionalizations of carbonyl compounds, cyclizations, and rearrangements have been developed successfully. In these catalytic reactions stoichiometric oxidants such as mCPBA or oxone play a crucial role to generate the iodine(III) or iodine(V) species in situ. In this Focus Review, recent developments of hypervalent iodine-catalyzed reactions are described including some asymmetric variants. Catalytic reactions using recyclable hypervalent iodine catalysts are also covered.

Abstract
An operationally simple protocol for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydrobenzo[f][1,4]oxazepin-3-ones, based on an Ugi reaction of an ortho-(benzyloxy)benzylamine, glycolic acid, an isocyanide and an aldehyde, followed by an intramolecular Mitsunobu substitution was developed. The required ortho-(benzyloxy)benzylamines have been in situ generated from the corresponding azides, in turn prepared in high yields from salicylic derivatives.
