Abstract
This paper presents a Mn(I)-catalysed methodology for the enantioselective hydrophosphination of terminal alkenyl aza-heteroarenes. The catalyst operates through H-P bond activation, enabling successful hydrophosphination of a diverse range of alkenyl-heteroarenes with high enantioselectivity. The presented protocol addresses the inherently low reactivity and the commonly encountered suboptimal enantioselectivities of these challenging substrates. As an important application we show that this method facilitates the synthesis of a non-symmetric tridentate P,N,P-containing ligand like structure in just two synthetic steps using a single catalytic system.

Abstract
Base metal catalyzed transfer hydrogenation reactions using methanol is highly challenging. Employing a single N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-based pincer (CNC)MnI complex, chemoselective single and double transfer hydrogenation of α, β-unsaturated ketones to saturated ketones or alcohols by utilizing methanol as the hydrogen source is disclosed. The protocol was tolerant towards the selective transfer hydrogenation of C=C or C=O bonds in the presence of several other reducible functional groups and led to the synthesis of several biologically relevant molecules and natural products. Notably, this is the first report of a Mn-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl groups with methanol. Several control experiments, kinetic studies, Hammett studies, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to understand the mechanistic details of this catalytic process.

Abstract
A novel and practical approach to access saturated ketones from unsaturated ketone derivatives via a CS2/t-BuOK system in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is reported. The in situ generation of xanthate salt through the reaction of carbon disulfide and potassium tert-butoxide is essential to this transformation. Deuterium-labeling experiments demonstrated that DMSO can act as a hydrogen donor.

Abstract
A non-noble Cu-catalyzed transfer aza-benzyl Michael addition via the C-C bond cleavage of aza-benzyl alcohols has been disclosed. The unstrained C(sp3)-C(sp3) bond of an alcohol was selectively cleaved. This aza-benzyl transfer strategy provides a selective and environmentally benign approach for the C-alkylation of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds that employs readily available alcohols as carbon nucleophiles and is characterized by a wide range of substrates and good to excellent yields.

Abstract
The hydrogenation of unsaturated carbons is a commonly used synthetic tool in pharmaceutical and industrial production. Recently, the Norton group realized highly selective hydrogenation of C=C bonds catalyzed by a rhodium hydride. Despite the great efforts made by experimentalists, details regarding the mechanism remained unclear. In this work, detailed DFT calculations were carried out to elucidate the principal features of this transformation. For enones we find that two possible competing mechanisms proposed by the experimental groups are computationally excluded, our proposed alternative mechanism with a total barrier of 20.0 kcal mol-1 is theoretically feasible, solvent methanol to also plays a crucial role in assisting β-hydrogenation in addition to being the hydrogen source for α-hydrogenation, and the cross-polarization of the substrate enone-conjugated system to result in an enhanced charge density of the α-carbon, which favors being hydrogenated first. For isolated alkenes, neither of the two possible competing mechanisms can be excluded computationally and which carbon atom is first hydrogenated depends on the electronic properties of the substrate itself. The combination of rhodium and C=C bonds changes the electronic properties of H on the rhodium hydride and enhances its hydrogenation activity.

Abstract
Both metal-catalyzed and organocatalytic transfer hydrogenation reactions are widely employed for the reduction of C=O and C=N bonds. However, selective transfer hydrogenation reactions of C=C bonds remain challenging. Therefore, the chemoselective transfer hydrogenation of olefins under mild conditions and in the absence of metal catalysts, using readily available and inexpensive reducing agents (i.e. primary and secondary alcohols), will mark a significant advancement towards the development of green transfer hydrogenation strategies. Described herein is an unconventional catalyst-free transfer hydrogenation reaction of activated alkenes using isopropanol as an eco-friendly reductant and solvent. The reaction gives convenient synthetic access to a wide range of substituted malonic acid half oxyesters (SMAHOs) in moderate to good yields. Mechanistic investigations point towards an unprecedented hydrogen bond-assisted transfer hydrogenation process.

Abstract
We present herein a novel strategy for the preparation of ketones from aldehydes and allylic boronicesters. This reaction involves the allylation of aldehydes with allylic boronicesters and the Rh-catalyzed chain-walking of homoallylic alcohols. The key to this successful development is the protodeboronation of alkenyl borylether intermediate via a tetravalent borate anion species in the presence of KHF 2 and MeOH. This approach features mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, and excellent functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies also supported that the tandem allylation and chain-walking process was involved.

Abstract
Under mild conditions (room temperature, 80 psi of H2) Cp*Rh(2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl)H catalyzes the selective hydrogenation of the C═C bond in α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, including natural product precursors with bulky substituents in the β position and substrates possessing an array of additional functional groups. It also catalyzes the hydrogenation of many isolated double bonds. Mechanistic studies reveal that no radical intermediates are involved, and the catalyst appears to be homogeneous, thereby affording important complementarity to existing protocols for similar hydrogenation processes.

Abstract
The use of stoichiometric organoborane reductants in organic synthesis is well established. Here these reagents have been rendered catalytic through an isodesmic B-O/B-H transborylation applied in the borane-catalyzed, chemoselective alkene reduction and formal hydrofunctionalization of enones. The reaction was found to proceed by a 1,4-hydroboration of the enone and B-O/B-H transborylation with HBpin, enabling catalyst turnover. Single-turnover and isotopic labeling experiments supported the proposed mechanism of catalysis with 1,4-hydroboration and B-O/B-H transborylation as key steps.

Abstract
The B(C6F5)3-catalyzed chemoselective hydrosilylation of α,β- and α,β,γ,δ-unsaturated ketones into the corresponding non-symmetric ketones in mild reaction conditions is developed. Nearly 55 substrates including those bearing reducible functional groups such as alkynyl, alkenyl, cyano, and aromatic heterocycles are chemoselectively hydrosilylated in good to excellent yields. Isotope-labeling studies revealed that hexafluoro-2-propanol also served as a hydrogen source in the process.

Abstract
Platinum-(phosphinito-phosphinous acid) complex catalyzes the oxidative fragmentation of hindered piperidinols according to a hydrogen transfer induced methodology. This catalyst acts successively as both a hydrogen carrier and soft Lewis acid in a one pot - two steps process. This method can be applied to the synthesis of a wide variety of primary amines in a pure form by a simple acid-base extraction without further purification.

Abstract
High energy resolution fluorescence detected XANES (HERFD-XANES) and valence-to-core X-ray emission spectroscopy (VtC-XES) are introduced as powerful tools to investigate hydride-iron interaction, the possible iron-iron bond, and iron spin state of the dinuclear tetra-hydrido complex [{5CpFe}2(μ-H)4] (1H, 5Cp = η5-C5 iPr5) by thoroughly accessing the geometric and electronic structure of this complex in comparison to the nonhydride reference [5CpCpFe] (1, Cp = C5H5). The so far observed most intense hydride induced signals in the pre-edge feature of the HERFD-XANES and in the VtC-XES spectra at the iron K-edge allow a precise analysis of the LUMO and HOMO states, respectively, by application of time-dependent density function theory (TD-DFT) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results of these calculations are further employed to understand the oxidation state, spin states, and potential Fe-Fe bonds in this complex.

Abstract
Semi-hydrogenation of alkynes is one of the most widely used methods for obtaining alkenes in laboratory preparation and in industry. Transition metal catalysts have been extensively studied for this transformation, but the tolerance of functional groups, such as pyridine, -OH, -NH2, -Bpin, and halides, and the toxicity of the trace amount of transition metal catalysts are still highly challenging. In this study, we report a general and robust strategy to achieve the semi-hydrogenation of alkynes using inexpensive and commercially available xanthate as the mediator. Mechanism studies support a non-radical process and H2O acts as the hydrogen donor.
