N-Heteropolycyclic compounds from the formal intramolecular (4 + 1)-cycloaddition of chromium aminocarbenes

Carbon-Carbon Bond Formation via Catalytically Generated Aminocarbene Complexes: Rhodium-Catalyzed Hydroaminative Cyclization of Enynes with Secondary Amines

We report a hydroaminative cyclization of enynes using phosphine-quinolinolato rhodium catalysts. The hydroaminative cyclization of 2-vinylphenylacetylene derivatives with secondary amines gives 2-aminoindenes in good yields. The reaction is considered to proceed through carbon-carbon bond formation on a catalytically generated aminocarbene ligand.

Asymmetric Sulfur-Ylide-Mediated Formal [4+1]-Annulation Reaction: Scope and Mechanism

A formal [4+1]-annulation strategy between sulfur ylides and 1,3-dienes was developed to afford functionalized cyclopentanoids. The process consists of a stereoselective cyclopropanation reaction followed, in situ, by a stereospecific MgI₂ -catalyzed vinylcyclopropane-cyclopentene rearrangement. The use of chiral sulfur ylides provided cyclopentanoids with excellent enantiocontrol. A combined experimental and computational mechanistic study showed that the stereospecificity of the rearrangement could be accounted for by a double S_N 2 reaction mechanism involving iodide.

Synthesis of Polysubstituted Pyrroles through a Formal [4 + 1] Cycloaddition/E1cb Elimination/Aromatization Sequence of Sulfur Ylides and α,β-Unsaturated Imines

A reaction sequence comprising a formal [4 + 1] cycloaddition, an E1cb elimination, and an aromatization process is described in this work. By doing so, polysubstituted pyrroles were achieved from easily available chemicals, sulfur ylides, and α,β-unsaturated imines. This protocol features mild conditions, high efficiency, and wide substrate scopes.

Synthesis and Structural Analysis of Palladium(II) Complexes Containing Neutral or Anionic C 2-Symmetric Bis(oxazoline) Ligands: Effects of Substituents in the 5-Position

A series of neutral and cationic palladium(II) complexes containing C ₂-symmetric bis(oxazoline) (BOX) ligands, (BOX)PdCl₂ (2a-d), (BOX)Pd(Me)Cl (3a-d), and [(BOX)PdMe(2,6-Me₂C₅H₃N)]⁺PF₆ ^- (4a-d) [BOX: 2,2'-(2-propylidene)bis{(4R)-4-phenyl-5,5-dimethyl-2-oxazoline}, 2,2'-methylenebis{(4R)-4-phenyl-5,5-dimethyl-2-oxazoline}, 2,2'-methylenebis{(4R)-4,5,5-triphenyl-2-oxazoline}, and 2,2'-methylenebis{(4R,5S)-4,5-diphenyl-2-oxazoline}], were prepared, and their structures were determined by X-ray crystallography. It was found that substituents at the 5-position (Ph, Me) in addition to substituents on the bridgehead carbon directly affect the structure around palladium, especially the BOX bite angle and the dihedral angles between the phenyl rings at the 4-position and the N₂Pd plane. Treatment of the bridged methylene proton in the BOX ligand (1b-d) with KH afforded the anionic BOX ligand; also, the neutral Pd complexes, (BOX)PdMe(2,6-Me₂C₅H₃N) (5b-d), could thus be prepared by reaction with Pd(Me)Cl(cod) (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene); 5b-d showed strong coordination to Pd, as demonstrated by X-ray crystallographic analysis.

Formal (4+1) cycloaddition of methylenecyclopropanes with 7-aryl-1,3,5-cycloheptatrienes by triple gold(I) catalysis

7-Aryl-1,3,5-cycloheptatrienes react intermolecularly with methylenecyclopropanes in a triple gold(I)-catalyzed reaction to form cyclopentenes. The same formal (4+1) cycloaddition occurs with cyclobutenes. Other precursors of gold(I) carbenes can also be used as the C1 component of the cycloaddition.
