Abstract
With the combination of the N-heterocyclic carbene-PdCl2-1-methylimidazole complex and Cu2O, we succeeded in the first example of double direct C-H bond arylation reactions between thiophenes and aryl chlorides, giving the desired 2,5-diarylated thiophenes in moderate to high yields under suitable conditions, consistent with the density functional theory calculations.

Abstract
The considerable importance of α-arylated carbonyl compounds, which are widely used as final products or as key intermediates in the pharmaceutical industry, has prompted numerous research groups to develop efficient synthetic strategies for their preparation in recent decades. In this context, the α-arylation of carbonyl compounds catalyzed by transition-metal complexes have been particularly helpful in constructing this motif. As illustrated in this contribution, tremendous advances have taken place using palladium- and nickel-NHC (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) complexes as pre-catalysts for the arylation of a wide range of ketones, aldehydes, esters and amides with electron-rich, electron-neutral, electron-poor, and sterically hindered aryl halides or pseudo-halides. Despite significant progress, especially in asymmetric α-arylations promoted by chiral NHC ligands, there are numerous challenges which have and continue to encourage further studies on this topic. Some of these are presented in this report.

Abstract
A variety of 2-(2-methylphenyl)-2-oxoethyl acetates were prepared from aromatic ketones by α-oxidation in acetic acid, using palladium acetate as catalyst and (diacetoxyiodo)benzene as oxidant. The X-ray crystal structure of 5-acetyl-2-hydroxy-4-methylphenyl acetate was determined.

Abstract
An efficient one-pot synthesis of 2,3-diarylated benzo[b]furans was realized through the relay catalysis of N-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) and palladium from substituted 2'-bromodiphenylbromomethanes and aryl aldehydes. The easy availability of the starting materials, good compatibility of catalysts, convergent assembly and concomitant modification of the target scaffold, and potential utilization value of the products make this strategy attractive in organic synthesis.

Abstract
The title compound, C9H7FO, crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, in which corresponding bond lengths are the same within experimental error. The five-membered ring in each molecule is almost planar, with r.m.s. deviations of 0.016 and 0.029 Å. In the crystal, mol-ecules form sheets parallel to (1 0 0) via C-H⋯O and C-H⋯F inter-actions with F⋯F contacts [3.1788 (16) and 3.2490 (16) Å] between the sheets.
