Abstract
The synthesis of acenaphthenone-2-ylidene ketones has been developed using PEG 400 as a solvent under metal and acid-free conditions. Using TBN as a nitrating agent under atmospheric oxygen, nitration of acenaphthenone-2-ylidene ketones has been accomplished for the first time. Upon nitration, (E)-2-(2-oxo-2-phenylethylidene)acenaphthylen-1(2H)-one and alkyl (E)-2-(2-oxoacenaphthylen-1(2H)-ylidene)acetate give the diastereomer with the same geometry. The variety of substrates employed and low cost and non-toxicity of the chemicals used in this process demonstrate its important applicability. Another noteworthy aspect of the procedure is that, in contrast to previous procedures, it does not use HNO3 or metal nitrates during the transformation.

Abstract
Herein, we have developed a complementary entry to enable hydroheteroarylation of alkenes involving basically photoredox dearomatizative heterocyclic carbon radical formation through acid-coupled electron transfer followed by Giese addition. While protonic solvent and thiophenol additive enabled two molecular hydroheteroarylations of alkenes, the nonproton environment with BF3 altered the chemoselectivity over cascade hydroheteroarylation of alkenes by radical addition of heteroaromatics with two molecular alkenes. This chemoselectivity can be mechanistically attributed to the dynamically favored hydrogen atom transfer via the cyclic transition state.

Abstract
The biocatalytic reduction of the oxime moiety to the corresponding amine group has only recently been found to be a promiscuous activity of ene-reductases transforming α-oximo β-keto esters. However, the reaction pathway of this two-step reduction remained elusive. By studying the crystal structures of enzyme oxime complexes, analyzing molecular dynamics simulations, and investigating biocatalytic cascades and possible intermediates, we obtained evidence that the reaction proceeds via an imine intermediate and not via the hydroxylamine intermediate. The imine is reduced further by the ene-reductase to the amine product. Remarkably, a non-canonical tyrosine residue was found to contribute to the catalytic activity of the ene-reductase OPR3, protonating the hydroxyl group of the oxime in the first reduction step.

Abstract
This mini-review will present the recent applications of Tert-Butyl Nitrite (TBN) in organic
synthesis. Due to its unique structural feature and wide application, TBN holds a prominent and
great potential in organic synthesis. The applications of TBN in three areas viz. aerobic oxidation,
annulation, and diazotization were reviewed recently; now, the current mini-review will describe the
studies carried out to date in areas such as nitration of alkane, alkene, alkyne, and aromatic compounds,
nitrosylation and sequential nitrosylation reactions, using TBN as source of oxygen and nitrogen.
The mechanisms of these transformations will be briefly described in this mini-review.

Abstract
Heterocycles are a ubiquitous substructure in organic small molecules designed for use in materials and medicines. Recent work in catalysis has focused on enabling access to new heterocycle structures by sp3 C-H functionalization on alkyl side-chain substituents-especially at the heterobenzylic position-with more than two hundred manuscripts published just within the last ten years. Rather than describing in detail each of these reports, in this mini-review we attempt to highlight gaps in existing techniques. A semi-quantitative overview of ongoing work strongly suggests that several specific heterocycle types and bond formations outside of C-C, C-N, and C-O have been almost completely overlooked.

Abstract
A metal-free and radical-free synthesis of heteroaromatic aldehydes was developed through aerobic oxidation of methyl groups in an I2/DMSO/O2 catalytic system. Under the reaction conditions, various functional groups such as methoxy, aldehyde, ester, nitro, amide, and halo (F, Cl, Br) groups were well tolerated. The bioactive compounds like chlorchinaldin derivative and papaverine were also oxidized to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones. This reaction provided an efficient method for preparing the valuable heteroaromatic aldehydes.

Abstract
A novel oxidation of benzylic C-H bonds for the synthesis of diverse six-membered N-heteroaromatic aldehydes and ketones has been developed. The obvious advantages of this approach are the simple operation, mild reaction conditions, and without use of toxic reagent and transition metal. The present method should provide a useful access for the synthesis and modification of N-heterocycles.

Abstract
Iodine-promoted oxidative C-H/C-H cross-coupling of unprotected anilines and 2-methylquinoline to furnish C4-carbonylated aniline (4-aminophenyl)(quinoline-2-yl) methanones in moderate to good yields has been demonstrated. This work provides the first site-selective approach for the synthesis of free amino groups containing methanones including unprecedented C-H functionalization rather than the N-H functionalization of unprotected anilines via the Kornblum oxidation of 2-methylquinoline. Furthermore, we noticed that the incorporation of KOH under standard conditions provides 2-heteroarylbenzothiazoles from benzothiazoles and 2-methylquinoline in good to excellent yields. These transformations do not require any transition metals or peroxides and tolerate various functional groups such as methoxy, hydroxy, bromo, chloro and nitro groups. Moreover, a plausible mechanistic pathway is proposed.

Abstract
Amines such as 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline undergo redox-neutral annulations with 2-alkylquinoline-3-carbaldehydes as well as the corresponding 4-alkyl isomers and pyridine analogues. These processes involve dual C-H bond functionalization. Acetic acid is used as a cosolvent and acts as the sole promoter of these transformations.

Abstract
This work reports tert-butyl nitrite (TBN) as a multitask reagent for (1) the controlled synthesis of N-nitrosoamide from N-alkyl amides, (2) hydrolysis of N-methoxyamides to carboxylic acids, (3) metal- and oxidant-free benzocoumarin synthesis from ortho-aryl-N-methoxyamides via N-H, C-N, and C-H bond activation, and (4) isocoumarin synthesis using Ru(II)/PEG as a recyclable catalytic system via ortho-C-H activation and TBN as an oxygen source. The sequential functional group interconversion of amide to acid has also been examined using IR spectroscopic analysis. Additionally, this methodology is highly advantageous due to short reaction time, gram scale synthesis, and broad substrate scope.

Abstract
A zinc-catalyzed C(sp3)–H addition of 2-alkylazaarenes to α-keto amides to furnish azaarene incorporated α-hydroxy amides has been developed for the first time. Chemoselective alkylation of the keto functionality of the α-keto amides in the presence of isolated ketones is the key advantage of this Zn-catalyzed protocol.
