Abstract
A simple and efficient two-step method for the construction of novel 2,4,9a-trisubstituted-4a,9a-dihydroindeno[2,1-d][1,3]oxazin-9-ones has been developed. The NHC-catalyzed aza-benzoin reaction of o-alkenyl benzaldehydes with N-acylarylimines afforded 1-(o-alkenylaryl)-2-amido-2-aryl-1-ethanones, which underwent regioselective 5-exo-trig radical cyclization to furnish the three-ring-fused heterocyclic products, generally in good yields. The synthetic method displayed good tolerance toward the nature of substituents, substitution pattern, and steric hindrance of o-alkenyl benzaldehydes. Based on this method, the synthesis of unprecedented dihydrobenzo[6,7]indeno[2,1-d][1,3]oxazin-7-ones and dihydropyrido[2',3':3,4]cyclopenta[1,2-d][1,3]oxazin-9-ones has been achieved by employing o-alkenylnaphthaldehyde and o-alkenylnicotinaldehyde as substrates. The regioselectivity between 5-exo-trig and 6-endo-trig radical cyclization reactions of different 1-(o-alkenylaryl)-2-amido-2-aryl-1-ethanones were elucidated with DFT calculations.

Abstract
In the last ten years, the combination of Lewis acid with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis has emerged as a powerful strategy in a variety of important asymmetric synthesis, due to the ready availability of starting materials, operational simplicity and mild reaction conditions. Recent findings illustrate that Lewis acid could largely enhance the efficiency and enantioselectivity, reverse the diastereoselectivity, and even influence the pathway of the same reaction partners. Herein, this review aims to reveal the recent advances in NHC-Lewis acid synergistically promoted enantioselective reactions for the expeditious assembly of versatile biologically important chiral pharmaceuticals and natural products.

Abstract
A facile and efficient Rh(iii)-catalyzed annulation of arylamides with 3-diazoquinolinediones for the construction of diverse and highly functionalized isochromenoquinolinediones is described. Furthermore, the methodology is applicable for delivering various relevant molecules such as pyridopyranoquinolindiones, thienopyranoquinolinones, and indolopyranoquinolinone. The reaction proceeds via cascade C–H activation, carbene insertion, and intramolecular lactonization. The reaction exhibits high atom economy, good functional group tolerance, and high regioselectivity. The synthesized compound can also behave as a potent fluorescence sensor for Fe3+ ion. An efficient Rh(iii)-catalyzed annulation of arylamides with 3-diazoquinolinediones for the construction of diverse and highly functionalized isochromenoquinolinedione derivatives is described.![]()

Abstract
The chiral triazole carbene and Ti(OPr-i)4 cocatalyzed reaction between α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and 2-(aroylvinyl)benzaldehydes was systematically studied. A divergence in reaction pathways was observed under different reaction conditions. In benzene solvent and at ambient temperature, the reaction produced 4,5-dihydro-1,4-methanobenzo[c]oxepin-3-ones, the bridged caprolactones, as the major products in moderate yields with excellent enantioselectivity. The same reaction in dichloroethane and at 50 °C, however, gave 2,8-dihydrocyclopenta[a]indenes as the major products in most cases. The application of the method developed was demonstrated by the transformation of the bridged lactone products into enantiopure 4-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene-2-carboxylic acids.

Abstract
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have emerged as a powerful class of organocatalysts that mediate a variety of organic transformations. The Benzoin reaction constitutes one of the earliest known carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions catalysed by NHCs. The rapid growth of NHC catalysis in general has resulted in the development of a variety of benzoin and benzoin-type reactions. An overview of such NHC-catalysed benzoin reactions is presented.

Abstract
Chiral N-heterocyclic carbene/Lewis acid co-catalyzed reaction of 2-aroylvinylcinnamaldehydes produced good yields of indeno[1,2-c]furan-1-ones with excellent enantioselectivity. A switch of intramolecular to intermolecular reaction was achieved by the cooperative catalysis of NHC/Ti(OPr-i)4 catalysts.
