Abstract
Dihydroazepino[1,2-a]indole diones are tricyclic N-acyl-2-alkylidene-3-oxindole enones that readily engage in tertiary phosphine-catalyzed intermolecular coupling reactions with acceptor-substituted alkenes. In these reactions, the tricyclic α-substituted enones undergo an α-alkylation with concomitant formation of a quaternary stereocenter, as well as the installation of a new double bond within the seven-membered azepane ring. The organocatalytic reaction constitutes a special case of the crossed intermolecular Rauhut-Currier reaction as the presence of the α-substituent in the enones prohibits the formation of an α,β-unsaturated product, but instead, skipped β,γ-unsaturated enones are obtained. With allene carboxylates as alternative coupling partners, the crossed Rauhut-Currier-type reaction competes with a regioselective allene to enone [3 + 2]-cycloaddition, and the product selectivity can be controlled by the choice of the phosphine organocatalyst.

Abstract
A regio- and stereoselective stepwise (4+2) annulation of N-propargylamides and α,β-unsaturated imines/ketones has been accomplished with synergetic catalysis by a combination of a gold-complex and a chiral quinine-derived squaramide (QN-SQA), leading to highly functionalized chiral tetrahydropyridines/dihydropyrans in good to high yields with generally excellent enantioselectivity. Mechanistic studies and DFT calculations indicate that the in situ formed alkylgold species is the key intermediate in this transformation, and the amide group served as a traceless directing group in this highly selective transformation. This method complements the enantioselective (4+2) annulation of allene reagents, providing the formal internal C-C π-bond cycloaddition products, which is challenging and remains elusive.

Abstract
Benzofuran-fused derivatives display important and reliable therapeutic properties. Herein, we describe the synthesis of benzofuran-fused oxepines using aurones and crotonate-derived sulfonium salts via a [4 + 3] annulation reaction in the presence of Cs2CO3. This reaction proceeds under mild and operationally simple conditions. The synthetic utility of this approach was highlighted by several transformations, including the efficient synthesis of a novel tetracyclic fused benzofuran derivative.

Abstract
In this work, we present a strategy for the preparation of functionalized 4H-chromene derivatives via a Cs2CO3-catalyzed [4 + 2] cycloaddition of enantiopure chiral salicyl N-phosphonyl imines with allenoates. Fifteen examples were achieved in excellent yields and diastereoselectivity. The products were purified simply by washing the crude mixture with hexanes following the Group-Assisted Purification (GAP) chemistry/technology to bypass traditional separation methods. The absolute configuration was unambiguously determined by X-ray structure analysis. A new asymmetric method for the synthesis of highly functionalized 4H-chromenes was developed via Group-Assisted Purification (GAP) chemistry and shown in good to high yield and excellent diastereoselectivity.![]()

Abstract
An NHC-catalyzed hetero-Diels-Alder and isomerization process of chalcones with allenoates was discovered, which furnished highly functionalized multisubstituted pyranyl carboxylates successfully. This method features a convergent assembly, mild reaction conditions, moderate to good yields, and high atom economy.

Catalyst-controlled regioselectivity in phosphine catalysis: the synthesis of spirocyclic benzofuranones via regiodivergent [3 + 2] annulations of aurones and an allenoate. Abstract
Catalyst-controlled regiodivergent [3 + 2] annulations of aurones and allenoates have been developed. When a dipeptide phosphine catalyst with an l-d- configuration was employed, α-selective [3 + 2] annulation products could be obtained with good regioselectivities and enantioselectivities. With the employment of l-l- dipeptide phosphines, γ-selective annulation products could be selectively obtained with excellent enantioselectivities. By simply tuning the catalyst configurations, a wide range of α-selective or γ-selective spirocyclic benzofuranones with either aryl or alkyl substitutions could be readily prepared. DFT calculations suggest that the conformation of the dipeptide phosphines influences the hydrogen bonding interactions or the distortion energy, resulting in delicate energy differentiation in the transition states, and accounting for the observed regioselectivity.

Abstract
The AgSbF6-catalyzed cyclization of 2-diazo-3,5-dioxo-6-ynoates (ynones, ynamide) in alcoholic solvents affords γ-pyrones, whereas the AgOAc-catalyzed cyclization in 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) produces 3(2H)-furanones. The cyclization reactions proceeded cleanly under mild reaction conditions, and the desired γ-pyrones or 3(2H)-furanones were obtained in excellent yield. It was observed for the first time that both the catalyst and solvent play key roles in the selective formation. This unique method for the reversal of regioselectivity proved to be highly efficient except for substrates with aliphatic and Me3Si groups at the triple bond position.

Abstract
Previous experiments have shown that DABCO-catalyzed annulation of 2,3-butadienoate and diethylazodicarboxylate leads to 1,2-diazetidine (reaction (1)), whereas PPh3-catalyzed 2-benzyl-2,3-butadienoate and diethylazodicarboxylate gives pyrazoline (reaction (2)).

Abstract
A highly enantioselective Michael addition reaction of 2-substituted benzofuran-3(2H)-ones to nitroolefins was promoted by a bifunctional squaramide catalyst. As a result, a number of chiral 2,2'-substituted benzofuran-3-one derivatives, bearing adjacent quaternary-tertiary stereocenters, were efficiently synthesized with excellent enantioselectivities.

Abstract
A highly enantioselective β-isocupreidine (β-ICD) catalyzed synthesis of dihydropyran-fused benzofurans through [4+2] cycloaddition of allenoates and benzofuranone alkenes was developed. Switchable chirality inversion of cycloaddition products was achieved by replacing the phenolic proton of the catalyst with a methyl, demonstrating an amazing effect of minimal structural variation on inverting enantioselectivity. DFT calculations were utilized to elucidate the origin of the observed phenomena. Computation also provided a clue for a rational design in which the multi-hydrogen bond with the alcohol additive was found to improve the enantioselectivity of the cycloaddition. Finally, the substrate scope was examined, in which a number of functionalized dihydropyran-fused benzofurans could be obtained in high yields (up to 97 %) with very good regio- (>20:1) and enantioselectivities (up to 98:2 e.r.).
