Abstract
A series of nitrile-modified N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of Ir(III) (2a-e) and Ru(II) (3a-d) have been prepared by transmetallation of [IrCp*Cl2]2 and [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 forming an in situ NHC-Ag complex. The structures of all complexes were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopies. And the structures were clearly elucidated by performing X-ray diffraction studies on 2b, 3a, and 3c single crystals. The complexes of NHC-Ir(III) (2a-e) and NHC-Ru(II) (3a-d) were investigated in the N-alkylation reaction of aniline derivatives with benzyl alcohols to form N-benzyl amines and in the N-methylation reaction of aniline derivatives with methanol. Both reactions were performed in solvent-free media. The Ir(III) complexes (2a-e) were found to perform essentially better than similar Ru(II) complexes (3a-d) in the N-alkylation and N-methylation reactions. Among the Ir(III) complexes (2a-e), the best results were obtained with 2b. The catalytic mechanisms of both reactions were revealed by 1H NMR study. Formation of Ir-hydride species was observed for both reactions. This new report provides useful information to evaluate the activity of complexes and the differences in sensitivity between the NHCs.

Abstract
The synthesis of 3,4-dihydroquinoxalin-2-ones via the selective reduction of aromatic, multifunctional nitro precursors catalyzed by supported gold nanoparticles is reported. The reaction proceeds through the in situ formation of the corresponding amines under heterogeneous transfer hydrogenation of the initial nitro compounds catalyzed by the commercially available Au/TiO2-Et3SiH catalytic system, followed by an intramolecular C-N transamidation upon treatment with silica acting as a mild acid. Under the present conditions, the Au/TiO2-TMDS system was also found to catalyze efficiently the present selective reduction process. Both transfer hydrogenation processes showed very good functional-group tolerance and were successfully applied to access more structurally demanding products bearing other reducible moieties such as chloro, aldehyde or methyl ketone. An easily scalable (up to 1 mmol), low catalyst loading (0.6 mol%) synthetic protocol was realized, providing access to this important scaffold. Under these mild catalytic conditions, the desired products were isolated in good to high yields and with a TON of 130. A library analysis was also performed to demonstrate the usefulness of our synthetic strategy and the physicochemical profile of the derivatives.

Abstract
Homogeneous tertiary N,N-dimethyl-N-β-lauryl/myristyl 7/3 polyethyleneoxy n = 3–18 ethylamines, LM(EO)nAT, are niche intermediates in the synthesis of homogeneous N-alkyl (C1–C18)-N,N-dimethyl-N-β-lauryl/myristyl 7/3 polyethyleneoxy n = 3–18 ethylammonium chlorides (unitary degree of oligomerization of ethylene oxide in the polyoxyethylene chain). This paper synthetically presents the dependence of the reductive methylation yields of homogeneous primary β-lauryl/myristyl 7/3 polyethyleneoxy n = 3–18 ethylamines, LM(EO)nAP, on the reaction time (10–90 min), the temperature (70 °C), the molar ratio formic aldehyde /LM(EO)nAP (1.1/1–2.5/1), the molar ratio HCOOH/LM(EO)nAP (5/1), the degree of oligomerization of ethylene oxide in the homogeneous polyoxyethylene chain in the 3,6,9,12,18 series, and the structure of the phase-transfer catalysts. The steric effects of hydrophobic groups CH3 and C18H37 grafted onto the ammonium function, and the micellar phenomena in the vicinity of their critical micellar concentration, directly proportional to the homogeneous degree of oligomerization, were highlighted. In all cases, a steady increase in reductive methylation yields was observed, with even quantitative values obtained. The high purity of the homologous series LM(EO)nAT will allow their personalization as reference structures for the study of the evolution of basic colloidal characteristics useful in forecasting technological applications. LM(EO)nAP were obtained either by direct amidoethylation (nucleophilic addition under basic catalysis of homogeneous lauryl/myristyl 7/3 polyethoxylated n = 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 alcohols, LM(EO)nOH, to acrylamide monomer) or by cyanoethylation of LM(EO)nOH under basic catalysis at 25–50 °C, in the presence of Fe2+ cations as oligomerization/polymerization inhibitor, followed by partial acid hydrolysis of homogeneous β-alkyl (C12H25/C14H29) 7/3 polyethyleneoxy n = 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 propionitriles, LM(EO)nPN, to β-alkyl (C12H25/C14H29) 7/3 polyethyleneoxy n = 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 propionamides, LM(EO)nPD, which led to LM(EO)nAP by Hoffmann degradation. Homogeneous higher tertiary polyetheramines LM(EO)nAT were structurally characterized.

Abstract
An efficient ruthenium-catalyzed method has been developed for the direct N-alkylation of sulfur-containing amines with alcohols, for the first time, by a step-economical and environmentally friendly hydrogen borrowing strategy. The present methodology features base-free conditions and broad substrate scope, with water being the only by-product. Moreover, this protocol has been applied to the synthesis of the pharmaceutical drug Quetiapine.

Abstract
The catalytic efficacy of silver nanoparticles was investigated toward the chemoselective reduction of nitro-tetrazole or amino acid-substituted derivatives into the corresponding amines in high isolated yields. This highly efficient protocol was thereafter applied toward the multicomponent reaction synthesis of heterocyclic dihydroquinoxalin-2-ones with high isolated yields. The reaction proceeds with low catalyst loading (0.8-1.4 mol %) and under mild catalytic conditions, a very good functional-group tolerance, and high yields and can be easily scaled up to more than 1 mmol of product. Thus, the present catalytic methodology highlights a useful synthetic application. Different molecules are designed and accordingly synthesized with the current protocol that could play the role of inhibitors of the soluble epoxide hydrolase, an important target for therapies against hypertension or inflammation.

Abstract
The direct reductive amination of aromatic aldehydes has been realized using a photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. The single electron oxidation of an in situ formed aminal species generates the putative α-amino radical that eventually delivers the reductive amination product. This method is operationally simple, highly selective, and functional group tolerant, which allows the direct synthesis of benzylic amines by a unique mechanistic pathway.

Abstract
The title compound, [RuCl2(C10H14)(C26H35O2P)] (I), crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with two crystallographically independent mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. The geometries of both mol-ecules are very similar and distinguished only by the twist angles of the two benzene rings in the phosphine substituents [89.54 (14) and 78.36 (14)° for mol-ecules A and B, respectively]. The Ru atoms have classical pseudo-tetra-hedral piano-stool coordination environments. The conformation of each mol-ecule is stabilized by intra-molecular C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯π inter-actions. The two mol-ecules are linked by a C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bond. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are further linked by C-H⋯ π inter-actions, forming -A-B-A-B- chains propagating along the a-axis direction. Complex I is an active catalyst for reductive amination reaction. The catalytic activity of this complex can be explained by the lability of the p-cymene ligand, which can be replaced by two-electron ligands such as CO or amine.

Abstract
An efficient oxidation-reduction condensation reaction of diazaphosphites with various nonacidic pronucleophiles in the presence of DIAD as a weak oxidant has been developed for carbon-heteroatom bond formation. This mild process affords structurally diverse tertiary amines, secondary amines, esters, ethers, and thioethers in moderate to excellent yields. The selective synthesis of secondary amines from primary amines has been achieved. Importantly, a practical application to the synthesis of antiparkinsonian agent piribedil has been demonstrated.

Abstract
The concept of hydrogen-free reductive amination can be expanded to metal carbonyls as reducing agents, which can lead to more selective approaches in organic synthesis. The synthetic value of the developed methodology was demonstrated by efficient preparation of a representative range of amines. The reaction proceeds well even in the case of poorly reactive ketones such as benzophenone.

Abstract
Since its original discovery over a century ago, the water-gas shift reaction (WGSR) has played a crucial role in industrial chemistry, providing a source of H2 to feed fundamental industrial transformations such as the Haber-Bosch synthesis of ammonia. Although the production of hydrogen remains nowadays the major application of the WGSR, the advent of homogeneous catalysis in the 1970s marked the beginning of a synergy between WGSR and organic chemistry. Thus, the reducing power provided by the CO/H2 O couple has been exploited in the synthesis of fine chemicals; not only hydrogenation-type reactions, but also catalytic processes that require a reductive step for the turnover of the catalytic cycle. Despite the potential and unique features of the WGSR, its applications in organic synthesis remain largely underdeveloped. The topic will be critically reviewed herein, with the expectation that an increased awareness may stimulate new, creative work in the area.
