Abstract
A chiral tetra-NHC iron(II) complex and its disparate reactivity with multiple organic azides is reported. Both aryl and alkyl azides react with the iron(II) complex yielding three distinct products: an iron(IV) imide, an iron(IV) tetrazene, and a surprising and unprecedented double imide insertion complex.

Abstract
cis-1-amino-2-indanol is an important building block in many areas of chemistry. Indeed, this molecule is currently used as skeleton in many ligands (BOX, PyBOX…), catalysts and chiral auxiliaries. Moreover, it has been incorporated in numerous bioactive structures. The major issues during its synthesis are the control of cis-selectivity, for which various strategies have been devised, and the enantioselectivity of the reaction. This review highlights the various methodologies implemented over the last few decades to access cis-1-amino-2-indanol in racemic and enantioselective manners. In addition, the various substitution patterns on the aromatic ring and their preparations are listed.

Field-Induced Single-Ion Magnet Behavior in Nickel(II) Complexes with Functionalized 2,2':6'-2″-Terpyridine Derivatives: Preparation and Magneto-Structural Study. Abstract
Two mononuclear nickel(II) complexes of the formula [Ni(terpyCOOH)2](ClO4)2∙4H2O (1) and [Ni(terpyepy)2](ClO4)2 MeOH (2) [terpyCOOH = 4'-carboxyl-2,2':6',2″-terpyridine and terpyepy = 4'-[(2-pyridin-4-yl)ethynyl]-2,2':6',2″-terpyridine] have been prepared and their structures determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes 1 and 2 are mononuclear compounds, where the nickel(II) ions are six-coordinate by the six nitrogen atoms from two tridentate terpy moieties. The mean values of the equatorial Ni-N bond distances [2.11(1) and 2.12(1) Å for Ni(1) at 1 and 2, respectively, are somewhat longer than the axial ones [2.008(6) and 2.003(6) Å (1)/2.000(1) and 1.999(1) Å (2)]. The values of the shortest intermolecular nickel-nickel separation are 9.422(1) (1) and 8.901(1) Å (2). Variable-temperature (1.9-200 K) direct current (dc) magnetic susceptibility measurements on polycrystalline samples of 1 and 2 reveal a Curie law behavior in the high-temperature range, which corresponds to magnetically isolated spin triplets, the downturn of the χMT product at lower temperatures being due to zero-field splitting effects (D). Values of D equal to -6.0 (1) and -4.7 cm-1 (2) were obtained through the joint analysis of the magnetic susceptibility data and the field dependence of the magnetization. These results from magnetometry were supported by theoretical calculations. Alternating current (ac) magnetic susceptibility measurements of 1 and 2 in the temperature range 2.0-5.5 K show the occurrence of incipient out-phase signals under applied dc fields, a phenomenon that is characteristic of field-induced Single-Molecule Magnet (SMM) behavior, which herein concerns the 2 mononuclear nickel(II) complexes. This slow relaxation of the magnetization in 1 and 2 has its origin in the axial compression of the octahedral surrounding at their nickel(II) ions that leads to negative values of D. A combination of an Orbach and a direct mechanism accounts for the field-dependent relation phenomena in 1 and 2.

Abstract
Sulfamates are widespread in numerous pharmacologically active molecules. In this paper, Silver/Bathophenanthroline catalyzed the intramolecular selective amination of primary C(sp3)−H bonds and secondary C(sp3)−H bonds of sulfamate esters, to produce cyclic sulfamates in good yields and with a high site-selectivity. DFT calculations revealed that the interaction between sulfamates and L10 makes the molecule more firmly attached to the catalyst, benefiting the catalysis reaction. The in vitro anticancer activity of the final products was evaluated in MCF-7 breast cancer cells.

Abstract
Dioxazolone has been attractive as an important synthon for a direct C-H amidation through a nitrene intermediate or Curtius rearrangement to form the isocyanate. However, the combination of two reaction models of dioxazolone has not been reported. Herein, a cobalt-catalyzed C-H and N-H functionalization of 1-arylpyrazolidinones with dioxazolones was developed. The dioxazolones acted as an amidated and carboxamidated reagent. Three C-N bonds were formed in a "one-pot" manner, which promoted the requirement of synthetic diversity.

Is the Electrophilicity of the Metal Nitrene the Sole Predictor of Metal-Mediated Nitrene Transfer to Olefins? Secondary Contributing Factors as Revealed by a Library of High-Spin Co(II) Reagents. Abstract
Recent research has highlighted the key role played by the electron affinity of the active metal-nitrene/imido oxidant as the driving force in nitrene additions to olefins to afford valuable aziridines. The present work showcases a library of Co(II) reagents that, unlike the previously examined Mn(II) and Fe(II) analogues, demonstrate reactivity trends in olefin aziridinations that cannot be solely explained by the electron affinity criterion. A family of Co(II) catalysts (17 members) has been synthesized with the assistance of a trisphenylamido-amine scaffold decorated by various alkyl, aryl, and acyl groups attached to the equatorial amidos. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, cyclic voltammetry and EPR data reveal that the high-spin Co(II) sites (S = 3/2) feature a minimal [N3N] coordination and span a range of 1.4 V in redox potentials. Surprisingly, the Co(II)-mediated aziridination of styrene demonstrates reactivity patterns that deviate from those anticipated by the relevant electrophilicities of the putative metal nitrenes. The representative L4Co catalyst (-COCMe3 arm) is operating faster than the L8Co analogue (-COCF3 arm), in spite of diminished metal-nitrene electrophilicity. Mechanistic data (Hammett plots, KIE, stereocontrol studies) reveal that although both reagents follow a two-step reactivity path (turnover-limiting metal-nitrene addition to the C b atom of styrene, followed by product-determining ring-closure), the L4Co catalyst is associated with lower energy barriers in both steps. DFT calculations indicate that the putative [L4Co]NTs and [L8Co]NTs species are electronically distinct, inasmuch as the former exhibits a single-electron oxidized ligand arm. In addition, DFT calculations suggest that including London dispersion corrections for L4Co (due to the polarizability of the tert-Bu substituent) can provide significant stabilization of the turnover-limiting transition state. This study highlights how small ligand modifications can generate stereoelectronic variants that in certain cases are even capable of overriding the preponderance of the metal-nitrene electrophilicity as a driving force.

Abstract
Aziridines are highly versatile intermediates in organic synthesis due to their easy access
and their susceptibility to ring-opening by facile C-N bond cleavage. They are synthetically very important
as they are valuable precursors of amino sugars, β-lactam antibiotics and alkaloids or present
in various natural products that exhibit potent biological activities. The synthesis of this moiety from
the easily available chemicals is desirable due to its tremendous use in the various branches of chemistry.
Here, a short review has been reported on the synthesis of this scaffold employing different strategies
under different greener conditions. Various methods have been developed in the presence of
green catalysts and solvents.

Octahedral iron(iv)-tosylimido complexes exhibiting single electron-oxidation reactivity. Chem Sci 2019; 10:9513-9529. Abstract
High valent iron species are very reactive molecules involved in oxidation reactions of relevance to biology and chemical synthesis. Herein we describe iron(iv)-tosylimido complexes [FeIV(NTs)(MePy2tacn)](OTf)2 (1(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs) and [FeIV(NTs)(Me2(CHPy2)tacn)](OTf)2 (2(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs), (MePy2tacn = N-methyl-N,N-bis(2-picolyl)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane, and Me2(CHPy2)tacn = 1-(di(2-pyridyl)methyl)-4,7-dimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane, Ts = Tosyl). 1(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs and 2(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs are rare examples of octahedral iron(iv)-imido complexes and are isoelectronic analogues of the recently described iron(iv)-oxo complexes [FeIV(O)(L)]2+ (L = MePy2tacn and Me2(CHPy2)tacn, respectively). 1(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs and 2(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs are metastable and have been spectroscopically characterized by HR-MS, UV-vis, 1H-NMR, resonance Raman, Mössbauer, and X-ray absorption (XAS) spectroscopy as well as by DFT computational methods. Ferric complexes [FeIII(HNTs)(L)]2+, 1(III)-NHTs (L = MePy2tacn) and 2(III)-NHTs (L = Me2(CHPy2)tacn) have been isolated after the decay of 1(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs and 2(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs in solution, spectroscopically characterized, and the molecular structure of [FeIII(HNTs)(MePy2tacn)](SbF6)2 determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Reaction of 1(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs and 2(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs with different p-substituted thioanisoles results in the transfer of the tosylimido moiety to the sulphur atom producing sulfilimine products. In these reactions, 1(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs and 2(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs behave as single electron oxidants and Hammett analyses of reaction rates evidence that tosylimido transfer is more sensitive than oxo transfer to charge effects. In addition, reaction of 1(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs and 2(IV)[double bond, length as m-dash]NTs with hydrocarbons containing weak C-H bonds results in the formation of 1(III)-NHTs and 2(III)-NHTs respectively, along with the oxidized substrate. Kinetic analyses indicate that reactions proceed via a mechanistically unusual HAT reaction, where an association complex precedes hydrogen abstraction.

Abstract
A combined computational and experimental study was undertaken to elucidate the mechanism of catalytic C2 + N1 aziridination supported by tetracarbene iron complexes. Three specific aspects of the catalytic cycle were addressed. First, how do organic azides react with different iron catalysts and why are alkyl azides ineffective for some catalysts? Computation of the catalytic pathway using density functional theory (DFT) revealed that an alkyl azide needs to overcome a higher activation barrier than an aryl azide to form an iron imide, and the activation barrier with the first-generation catalyst is higher than the activation barrier with the second-generation variant. Second, does the aziridination from the imide complex proceed through an open-chain radical intermediate that can change stereochemistry or, instead, via an azametallacyclobutane intermediate that retains stereochemistry? DFT calculations show that the formation of aziridine proceeds via the open-chain radical intermediate, which qualitatively explains the formation of both aziridine diastereomers as seen in experiments. Third, how can the formation of the side product, a metallotetrazene, be prevented, which would improve the yield of aziridine at lower alkene loading? DFT and experimental results demonstrate that sterically bulky organic azides prohibit formation of the metallotetrazene and, thus, allow lower alkene loading for effective catalysis. These multiple insights of different aspects of the catalytic cycle are critical for developing improved catalysts for C2 + N1 aziridination.

Abstract
The photo-Fenton process employs light, iron species, and H2O2 to oxidize organic pollutants. In this study, a coordination complex, Fe(II)–terpyridine, was covalently grafted onto TiO2 surfaces via a light-harvesting linkage for use in the photo-Fenton reaction. The surface Fe(II)–terpyridine complex was characterized with techniques, including microscopy and spectroscopy, and was investigated in the degradation of Orange II in the presence of H2O2. Under visible-light irradiation, slightly higher activity was obtained using the surface Fe(II)–terpyridine catalyst than using photoactivated TiO2 nanoparticles under UV light. Furthermore, the Fe(II)–terpyridine complex grafted on TiO2 showed significantly greater activity than the same complex grafted on ZrO2 in the degradation of Orange II. A possible explanation for this observation was discussed that involves the formation of high valent oxoiron species on TiO2 in the photo-Fenton process.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed nitrene insertion into tertiary C-H bonds located at stereogenic carbons often results in mixtures of diastereomeric products, especially if the reaction proceeds through a concerted pathway. In this communication, we report a solution to this problem that invokes a one-pot, silver-catalyzed C-H nitrene transfer reaction. Nitrene insertion is followed by facile oxidation of the amine to an imine and nucleophilic addition to furnish α-tertiary amine 1,3-aminoalcohol products in high diastereoselectivities. The silver catalyst, PhIO oxidant, and TEMPO additive are crucial to success in this unusual oxidation, which is proposed to occur via hydrogen-atom abstraction from pre-activation of the initial nitrene insertion product by additional oxidant.

Abstract
The combination of peptides and a chiral iron coordination complex catalyzes high yield highly asymmetric epoxidation with aqueous hydrogen peroxide.
Supramolecular systems resulting from the combination of peptides and a chiral iron coordination complex catalyze asymmetric epoxidation with aqueous hydrogen peroxide, providing good to excellent yields and high enantioselectivities in short reaction times. The peptide is shown to play a dual role; the terminal carboxylic acid assists the iron center in the efficient H2O2 activation step, while its β-turn structure is crucial to induce high enantioselectivity in the oxygen delivering step. The high level of stereoselection (84–92% ee) obtained by these supramolecular catalysts in the epoxidation of 1,1′-alkyl ortho-substituted styrenes, a notoriously challenging class of substrates for asymmetric catalysis, is not attainable with any other epoxidation methodology described so far. The current work, combining an iron center ligated to N and O based ligands, and a peptide scaffold that shapes the second coordination sphere, may be seen as a bottom up approach towards the design of artificial oxygenases.

Abstract
Cobalt(II)-based metalloradical catalysis (MRC) has been successfully applied for effective construction of the highly strained 2-sulfonyl-1,3-diazabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane structures in high yields through intramolecular radical aziridination of allylic sulfamoyl azides. The resulting [3.1.0] bicyclic aziridines prove to be versatile synthons for the preparation of a diverse range of 1,2- and 1,3-diamine derivatives by selective ring-opening reactions. As a demonstration of its application for target synthesis, the metalloradical intramolecular aziridination reaction has been incorporated as a key step for efficient synthesis of a potent neurokinin 1 (NK1 ) antagonist in 60 % overall yield.

Abstract
Thermolysis of the iron(IV) nitride complex [PhB(tBuIm)3Fe≡N] with styrene leads to formation of the high-spin iron(II) aziridino complex [PhB(tBuIm)3Fe-N(CH2CHPh)]. Similar aziridination occurs with both electron-rich and electron-poor styrenes, while bulky styrenes hinder the reaction. The aziridino complex [PhB(tBuIm)3Fe-N(CH2CHPh)] acts as a nitride synthon, reacting with electron-poor styrenes to generate their corresponding aziridino complexes, that is, aziridine cross-metathesis. Reaction of [PhB(tBuIm)3Fe-N(CH2CHPh)] with Me3SiCl releases the N-functionalized aziridine Me3SiN(CH2CHPh) while simultaneously generating [PhB(tBuIm)3FeCl]. This closes a synthetic cycle for styrene azirdination by a nitride complex. While the less hindered iron(IV) nitride complex [PhB(MesIm)3Fe≡N] reacts with styrenes below room temperature, only bulky styrenes lead to tractable aziridino products.

Abstract
Darzens reactions between halocarbonyls and aldehydes have been carried out in water in the presence of a Li(+)-containing base, a phase-transfer catalyst, and granular polytetrafluoroethylene under mechanical stirring. Reactions using both aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes produced epoxides stereoselectively in good to excellent yields. This is the first time that aliphatic aldehydes with α-H have been used in aqueous Darzens reactions. The Darzens reactions were much faster in water than in organic solvents. This aqueous rate enhancement occurred for Darzens reactions between enantiopure steroidal haloketones and aldehydes, yielding enantiopure spiroepoxides with a high level of kinetically controlled diastereoselectivity. Chromatography was avoided in the purifications of the steroidal spiroepoxides. This is an example of preparing enantiopure epoxyketones via aqueous Darzens reaction using chiral α-haloketone substrates.

Abstract
A cheap, mild, fast, and environmentally friendly oxidation of olefins to the corresponding epoxides is reported using polyfluoroalkyl ketones as efficient organocatalysts. Namely, 2,2,2-trifluoroacetophenone was identified as an improved organocatalyst for the epoxidation of alkenes. Various olefins, mono-, di-, and trisubstituted, are epoxidized chemoselectively in high to quantitative yields utilizing 2-5 mol % catalyst loading and H2O2 as the green oxidant.
