Abstract
A concise synthesis of cinchona-alkaloid-derived NN ligands bearing alkyl substituents on chiral nitrogen atoms was described. Iridium catalysts containing new chiral NN ligands and achiral phosphines were effective for the asymmetric hydrogenation of heteroaromatic ketones, which afforded corresponding alcohols in up to 99.9% ee. The same protocol was applicable to the asymmetric hydrogenation of α-chloroheteroaryl ketones. Most importantly, the gram-scale asymmetric hydrogenation of 2-acetylthiophene and 2-acetylfuran proceeded smoothly even under 1 MPa of H2.

Abstract
The cationic achiral and chiral terpyridine diphosphine ruthenium complexes [RuCl(PP)(tpy)]Cl (PP=dppp (1), (R,R)-Skewphos (2) and (S,S)-Skewphos (3)) are easily obtained in 85-88 % yield through a one-pot synthesis from [RuCl2 (PPh3 )3 ], the diphosphine and 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (tpy) in 1-butanol. Treatment of 1-3 with NaPF6 in methanol at RT affords quantitatively the corresponding derivatives [RuCl(PP)(tpy)]PF6 (PP=dppp (1 a), (R,R)-Skewphos (2 a) and (S,S)-Skewphos (3 a)). Reaction of [RuCl2 (PPh3 )3 ] with (S,R)-Josiphos or (R)-BINAP in toluene, followed by treatment with tpy in 1-butanol and finally with NaPF6 in MeOH gives [RuCl(PP)(tpy)]PF6 (PP=(S,R)-Josiphos (4 a), (R)-BINAP (5 a)) isolated in 78 % and 86 % yield, respectively. The chiral derivatives have been isolated as single stereoisomers and 3 a, 4 a have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The tpy complexes with NaOiPr display high photocatalytic activity in the transfer hydrogenation (TH) of carbonyl compounds using 2-propanol as the only hydrogen donor and visible light at 30 °C, at remarkably high S/C (up to 5000) and TOF values up to 264 h-1 . The chiral enantiomers 2, 2 a and 3, 3 a induce the asymmetric photocatalytic TH of acetophenone, affording (S)- and (R)-1-phenylethanol with 51 and 52 % ee, respectively, in a MeOH/2-propanol mixture.

Abstract
In general, the Pinder reaction concerns the reaction between an enolisable anhydride and an aldehyde proceeding initially through a Knoevenagel reaction followed by the ring closing process generating lactones with at least two chiral centers. These scaffolds are frequently present in natural products and synthetic bioactive molecules, hence it has attracted intense interest in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry, particularly with respect to controlling the diastereo- and enantioselectivity. To the best of our knowledge, there has been only one attempt prior to this work towards the development of a catalytic enantioselective Pinder reaction. In our approach, we designed, synthesized, and tested dual chiral organocatalysts by combining BIMAH amines, (2-(α-(alkyl)methanamine)-1H-benzimidazoles, and a Lewis acid motif, such as squaramides, ureas and thioureas. The optimum catalyst was the derivative of isopropyl BIMAH bearing a bis(3,5-trifluoromethyl) thiourea, which afforded the Pinder products from various aromatic aldehydes with diastereomeric ratio >98:2 and enatioselectivity up to 92 ee%. Interestingly, the enantioselectivity of this catalyzed process is increased at higher concentrations and exhibits an isoinversion effect, namely an inverted "U" shaped dependency with respect to the temperature. Mechanistically, these features, point to a transition state involving an entropy-favored heterodimer interaction between a catalyst/anhydride and a catalyst/aldehyde complex when all other processes leading to this are much faster in comparison above the isoinversion temperature.

Abstract
A novel manganese catalyst bearing an l-proline-derived N4 ligand has been developed for enabling acid-free asymmetric epoxidation of olefins with tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidant. A variety of olefins that are well-matched in size with the ligand pocket can be transformed to epoxides with excellent enantioselectivities. The smaller ligand pocket is also beneficial to the enantioselective epoxidation of simple olefins. Cryospray ionization mass spectrometry experiments reveal that a MnIV[double bond, length as m-dash]O species serves as an active epoxidizing species.

Abstract
The organometallic approach is one of the most active topics in catalysis. The application of NH functionality in organometallic catalysis has become an important and attractive concept in catalyst design. NH moieties in the modifiers of organometallic catalysts have been shown to have various beneficial functions in catalysis by molecular recognition through hydrogen bonding to give catalyst-substrate, ligand-ligand, ligand-catalyst, and catalyst-catalyst interactions. This Review summarizes recent progress in the development of the organometallic catalysts based on the concept of cooperative catalysis by focusing on the NH moiety.

Abstract
Five benzimidazole compounds containing pyrazole group were synthesized via one-step reaction of o-phenylenediamine and 1-arylpyrazole-4-carbaldehyde in ethanol under mild conditions. The composition and structure of resultant benzimidazole compounds were analyzed by means of elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, (1)H-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The ultraviolet-visible light spectra and fluorescent spectra of the products were measured. Their ground-state (S(0)) equilibrium geometries and vibrational frequencies were determined based on B3LYP method, and their first excited-state (S(1)) geometries were fully optimized based on 6-31G (d, p) basis set of TD-B3LYP method. Besides, the spectroscopic properties of the products were computed based on cc-pVTZ basis set of TD-B3LYP method and compared with corresponding experimental data. It has been found that benzimidazole compounds containing pyrazole group can be readily synthesized in a high yield via one-step reaction of o-phenylenediamine and 1-arylpyrazole-4-carbaldehyde in ethanol solvent. The fluorescence properties of the five synthesized compounds are closely related to their molecular structure; and their computed fluorescence spectra well correspond to their experimental values. Moreover, they have stable structure and strong fluorescence, showing potential application in time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay and DNA probe.

Abstract
A ruthenium-catalyzed asymmetric arylation of aliphatic aldehydes and α-ketoesters with arylboronic acids has been developed, giving chiral alkyl(aryl)methanols and α-hydroxy esters in good yields. The use of a chiral bidentate phosphoramidite ligand (Me-BIPAM) achieved excellent enantioselectivities.
