Abstract
An unprecedented carboxylative sulfonylation of (homo)propargyl amines with CO2 and sodium arylsulfinates under visible light irradiation has been developed with high efficiency. This ruthenium-catalysed photochemical protocol offers broad substrate scope giving 2-oxazolidinones and 2-oxazinones bearing alkyl sulfones in good yields under ambient reaction conditions. An in situ double bond isomerisation occurs in tandem. A mechanistic rationale for these radical-initiated carboxylative cyclisations involving sulfinyl radicals is presented, supported by control and quenching experiments.

Abstract
AbstractAcrylamides are versatile building blocks that are easily obtained from readily available starting materials. During the last 20 years, these valuable substrates bearing a nucleophilic nitrogen atom and an electrophilic double bond have proven to be efficient domino partners, leading to a wide variety of complex aza-heterocycles of synthetic relevance. Abstract
Organocatalyzed [4 + 2] annulation of CO2/COS with allenamides is firstly reported to synthesize 1,3-oxazine-2,4-diones and 1,3-thiazine-2,4-diones in moderate to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. The catalytic potential of a series of Lewis base CO2 and COS adducts are particularly noted for this process, which features high regio- and chemo-selectivity, step-economy, facile scalability, and easy product derivatization. This study offers the potential for the application of organocatalytic systems for CO2 and COS chemical transformation.

Abstract
A palladium/copper-catalyzed oxy-carbonation of propargylic amides by halohydrocarbons and CO2 has been developed toward functionalized oxazolidine-2,4-diones. This multi-component reaction (MCR) was triggered by the oxidative addition of RX to Pd(0), followed by the sequential carboxylation of amide and trans-oxopalladation of an electron-deficient triple bond by RPdX species. Finally, the reductive elimination afforded products possessing tetra-substituted vinyl motifs and Pd(0). This protocol features simultaneous formation of three bonds, representing an efficient method for incorporation of CO2 into value-added heterocycles.

Abstract
Organocatalysts promote a range of C-N bond forming reactions of amines with CO2 . Herein, we review these reactions and attempt to identify the unifying features of the catalysts that allows them to promote a multitude of seemingly unrelated reactions. Analysis of the literature shows that these reactions predominantly proceed by carbamate salt formation in the form [BaseH][RR'NCOO]. The anion of the carbamate salt acts as a nucleophile in hydrosilane reductions of CO2 , internal cyclization reactions or after dehydration as an electrophile in the synthesis of urea derivatives. The reactions are enhanced by polar aprotic solvents and can be either promoted or hindered by H-bonding interactions. The predominant role of all types of organic and salt catalysts (including ionic liquids, ILs) is the stabilization of the carbamate salt, mostly by acting as a base. Catalytic enhancement depends on the combination of the amine, the base strength, the solvent, steric factors, ion pairing and H-bonding. A linear relationship between the base strength and the reaction yield has been demonstrated with IL catalysts in the synthesis of formamides and quinazoline-2,4-diones. The role of organocatalysts in the reactions indicates that all bases of sufficient strength should be able to catalyze the reactions. However, a physical limit to the extent of a purely base catalyzed reaction mechanism should exist, which needs to be identified, understood and overcome by synergistic or alternative methods.

Abstract
The generation and use of acyl ketenes under continuous flow reaction conditions is reported. Several reaction classes of these reactive intermediates have been studied. Under zero headspace conditions, a ketone exchange process is possible between volatile ketones. The process can be readily scaled to deliver gram quantities of product.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed four-component cascade reaction of carbon dioxide, amines, allenyl ethers, and aryl iodides has been developed for the first time. The novel reaction allows simultaneous construction of three different new bonds (C-N, C-O, and C-C) in a single step, affording an efficient method for the synthesis of a variety of highly functionalized acyclic O,O-acetals. Excellent chemo- and regioselectivity, wide substrate scope, and good functional group tolerance are features of the method.

Abstract
The use of tethers allows to overcome reactivity and selectivity issues often encountered with intermolecular reactions. Although tethers have been successfully applied for decades, their installation and removal usually requires additional steps. This minireview highlights the recent development of tethers that can be installed in situ on (homo)-allyl amines or alcohols for Tsuji-Trost allylation or double bond functionalization. In particular, the use of (hemi-)acetal tethers for highly regioselective and enantioselective Tsuji-Trost allylation was recently reported. Hydroamination of olefins starting from allylic amines could be achieved via a retro Cope-elimination using catalytic amount of an aldehyde for tether formation. Finally, bifunctionalizations of olefins were developed using either carbon dioxide or carbonyls/imines as tether precursors. These recent breakthroughs greatly enhanced the efficiency of the tethering approach for olefin functionalization, and will make it even more attractive for synthetic chemists in the future.

Abstract
Carbon dioxide is commonly regarded as the primary greenhouse gas, but from a synthetic standpoint can be utilized as an alternative and sustainable C1 synthon in organic synthesis rather than a waste. This results in the production of organic carbonates, carboxylic acids, and derivatives. Recently, CO2 has emerged as an appealing tool for heterocycle synthesis under mild conditions without using stoichiometric amounts of organometallic reducing reagents. This Minireview summarizes recent advances on methodologies for CO2 incorporation into N-, O-, and C-nucleophiles to provide various heterocycles, including cyclic carbamates, benzoxazine-2-one, 4-hydroxyquinolin-2-one, quinazoline-2,4(1 H,3 H)-diones, benzimidazolones, α-alkylidene cyclic carbonate.

Abstract
Modern synthetic chemists have looked for rapid and efficient ways to construct complex molecules while minimizing synthetic manipulation and maximizing atom-economy. Over the last few decades, researchers have made considerable progress toward these goals by taking full advantage of transition metal catalysis and the diverse reactivities of allenes, functional groups which include two cumulative carbon-carbon double bonds. This Account describes our efforts toward the development of Pd-catalyzed cyclization reactions of allenes in the presence of compounds that contain unsaturated carbon-carbon bonds such as alkenyl halides, simple alkenes, allenes, electron-deficient alkynes, or propargylic carbonates. First, we discuss the coupling-cyclization reactions of allenes bearing a nucleophilic functionality in the presence of alkenyl halides, simple alkenes, functionalized and nonfunctionalized allenes, or electron-deficient alkynes. These processes generally involve a Pd(II)-catalyzed sequence: cyclic nucleopalladation, insertion or nucleopalladation, and β-elimination, reductive elimination, cyclic allylation or protonation. We then focus on Pd(0)-catalyzed cyclization reactions of allenes in the presence of propargylic carbonates. In these transformations, oxidative addition of propargylic carbonates with Pd(0) affords allenylpalladium(II) species, which then react with allenes via insertion or nucleopalladation. These transformations provide easy access to a variety of synthetically versatile monocyclic, dumbbell-type bicyclic, and fused multicyclic compounds. We have also prepared a series of highly enantioenriched products using an axial-to-central chirality transfer strategy. A range of allenes are now readily available, including optically active ones with central and/or axial chirality. Expansion of these reactions to include other types of functionalized allenes, such as allenyl thiols, allenyl hydroxyl amines, and other structures with differing steric and electronic character, could allow access to cyclic skeletons that previously were difficult to prepare. We anticipate that other studies will continue to explore this promising area of synthetic organic chemistry.
