Abstract
1,5-hydride transfer-triggered cyclization reactions offering a robust method for C(sp3)-C(sp3) coupling and the synthesis of e.g. tetrahydroquinolines have been thoroughly investigated in the literature. Catalysts allowing milder reaction conditions or the development of enantioselective processes were important recent contributions to the field, as well as the studies on subtrates with oxygen or sulfur heteroatoms (besides the originally described nitrogen heterocycles). In a series of studies, we focused on expanded, higher order H-transfers/cyclizations by positioning the interacting substituents on distanced rings. Cyclizations of appropriately functionalized biaryl and fused bicyclic systems led to 7-9 membered rings. In the frame of this research, we set out to study the feasibility of the cyclization and the factors affecting it by in silico methods. The conclusions drawn from computational studies were complemented by cyclization screens on 2-(2-vinyl)phenoxy-tert-anilines and their CH2-expanded analogues, the results of which are presented here. Besides isolating the expected oxazonine products in several cases, we also observed a unique dimer formation, leading to an interesting 5-6-5 ring system.

Abstract
The Sc(OTf)3-catalyzed dearomative [5+1] annulations between readily available 3-aminophenols and O-alkyl ortho-oxybenzaldehydes were developed for synthesis of spiro[chromane-3,1'-cyclohexane]-2',4'-dien-6'-ones. The "two-birds-with-one-stone" strategy was disclosed by the dearomatization of phenols and direct α-C(sp3)-H bond functionalization of oxygen through cascade condensation/[1,5]-hydride transfer/dearomative-cyclization process. In addition, the antifungal activity assay and derivatizations of products were conducted to further enrich the utility of the structure.

Abstract
We have achieved a divergent access to seven/five-membered rings based on a [1,6]-hydride shift/cyclization process from benzylidenemalonate with an o-alkoxymethyl group. Whereas Yb(OTf)3 afforded benzoxepines (with a seven-membered ring) selectively, indanes (with a five-membered ring) were the main products when Sc(OTf)3 was employed.

Abstract
AbstractDirectly accessible 8-substituted tetrahydroquinolines undergo 1,5-hydride-shift-triggered cyclization to provide difficult to access julolidine derivatives in yields of 21–98% under scandium(III) triflate catalysis. Additionally, the scope of the reaction, several follow-up transformations and a remarkable side process discovered during optimization of the conditions are highlighted.

Abstract
The borane-catalyzed synthesis of dihydroquinoline-4-ones is developed. The amino-substituted chalcones undergo a 1,7-hydride shift upon Lewis acid activation to form a zwitterionic iminium enolate, which collapses to the dihydroquinoline-4-one scaffold. The reaction proceeds in high yields (75-99%) with an excellent diastereoselectivity of up to >99:1 (cis:trans). The reaction mechanism is investigated by kinetic, isotope labeling, and computational experiments.

Abstract
We report herein a rapid access to 3-indolyl-1-trifluoromethyl-isobenzofurans via a [1,4]-hydride shift/cyclizatin/intermolecular nucleophilic addition reaction sequence. In this process, a Lewis acid promoted internal redox reaction ([1,4]-hydride shift/cyclization) followed by a Brønsted acid promoted intermolecular reaction (generation of cyclic oxonium cation/intermolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction) occurred to give various 3-indolyl-1-trifluoromethyl-isobenzofurans in good chemical yields.

Abstract
Diastereoselective hydride transfer could be triggered by electrophilic halogenation (bromination or fluorination) of homoallylic alcohol O-Bn ethers. The resulting diastereomerically enriched haloalkyl alcohols underwent subsequent intramolecular nucleophilic substitution to afford the corresponding tetrahydrofurans.

Abstract
A diastereoselective hydride transfer process has been developed under Brønsted acid-catalyzed reaction conditions using methyl ethers or acetals as hydride donors and tertiary alcohols or alkenes as precursors of carbocation. The method enables construction of complex molecules having multiple stereogenic centers from rather simple and readily available starting materials with predictable diastereoselective control.

Abstract
A beguiling annulative partial dimerization of 3-aryloxyacrylates to 4-arylchroman-2-ones catalyzed by Lewis acid (BF3·OEt2) has been developed. The reaction involves two molecules of 3-aryloxyacrylate, resulting in the loss of one propiolate molecule to furnish 4-arylchroman-2-one, an important structural motif found in many natural products. This methodology has been elaborated to synthesize analogues of tolterodine, RORγ inhibitors and a GPR40 agonist.

Abstract
A new protocol for the deoxygenation of alcohols and the hydrogenation of alkenes under Brønsted acid catalysis has been developed. The method is based on the use of either a benzyl or isopropyl ether as a traceless hydrogen-atom donor, and involves an intramolecular hydride transfer as a key step, which is achieved in a regio- and stereoselective manner.

Abstract
N,N-Dimethylmesitylamine undergoes an intermolecular redox-neutral C-H activation/C-C coupling process upon treatment with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and the strong boron Lewis acid B(C6 F5 )3 . Similarly, N,N-dimethylmesitylamine reacts with two molar equivalents of ethyl acrylate to give the respective unsaturated coupling product with H2 transfer to the acrylic ester to form the ethyl propionate/B(C6 F5 )3 adduct. N,N-Dimethylmesitylamine also undergoes a C-H activation at the benzylic ortho sp3 -carbon atom with dihydrogen formation upon treatment with Piers' borane [HB(C6 F5 )2 ]. The last two reactions of N,N-dimethylmesitylamine were analyzed by DFT calculations.

Abstract
The electronic effect and steric effect have a dramatic impact on the fascinating cascade [1,n]-hydride transfer/cyclization. The regioselectivity of two potential hydrogen donors could be perfectly tuned to construct different skeletons.

Abstract
Cyclic amines such as pyrrolidine undergo redox-annulations with 2-formylaryl malonates. Concurrent oxidative amine α-CH bond functionalization and reductive N-alkylation render this transformation redox-neutral. This redox-Mannich process provides regioisomers of classic Reinhoudt reaction products as an entry to the tetrahydroprotoberberine core, enabling the synthesis of (±)-thalictricavine and its epimer. An unusually mild amine-promoted dealkoxycarbonylation was discovered in the course of these studies.
