Abstract
C(sp3)-rich heterocycles are privileged building blocks for pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Therefore, synthetic methods that provide access to novel saturated nitrogen-containing heterocycles are in high demand. Herein, we report a general synthesis of 1-azabicyclo[2.1.1]hexanes (1-aza-BCH) via a formal cycloaddition of azabicyclo[1.1.0]butanes (ABB) with styrenes under photochemical conditions. To overcome the challenging direct single electron reduction of ABBs, we designed a polar-radical-polar relay strategy that leverages a fast acid-mediated ring-opening of ABBs to form bromoazetidines, which undergo efficient debrominative radical formation to initiate the cycloaddition reaction. The reaction is applicable to a broad range of ABB-ketones and we demonstrate the 1-aza-BCH products can be further functionalized to access larger saturated, conformationally rigid heterocycles.

Abstract
Synthesis of alk-2-ynl-Weinreb amides via Pd-catalyzed oxidative carbonylation of terminal alkynes and N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrochloride at room temperature under low CO/O2 pressure is reported for the first time. This protocol offers tolerance of various functional groups under mild reaction conditions. The protocol incorporates aromatic- and aliphatic-substituted alkynes through a one-step oxidative carbonylative route toward desired alkynyl Weinreb amides, which are of considerable importance as valuable synthetic building blocks.

Abstract
The first successful example of the direct synthesis of Weinreb amides using catalytic hydroxy-directed dehydrative amidation of carboxylic acids using the diboronic acid anhydride catalyst is described. The methodology is applicable to the concise syntheses of eight α-hydroxyketone natural products, namely, sattabacin, 4-hydroxy sattabacin, kurasoins A and B, soraphinols A and B, and circumcins B and C.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed decarboxylative trifluoromethylation of (hetero)aromatic iodides has been developed. Importantly, this new copper-catalyzed reaction operates in the absence of any ligands and metal additives. The protocol shows good functional group tolerance and is compatible with heteroaromatic systems. The reaction proved scalable to a 15 mmol scale with increased yield. Finally, late-stage installation of the trifluoromethyl functionality afforded the N-trifluoroacetamide variant of the antidepressant agent, Prozac, demonstrating the applicability of the developed method.

Abstract
Lung cancer is the notable cause of cancer associated deaths worldwide. Recent studies revealed that the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is extremely high in lung tumors compared with non-malignant lung tissue. MMPs (-2 and -9) play an important part in tumor development and angiogenesis, which suggests that creating potent MMP-2 and -9 inhibitors, should be an important goal in lung cancer therapy. In the present study, an effort has been made to develop new anti-metastatic and anti-invasive agents, wherein a series of novel diazepine substituted cinnamic acid derivatives were designed, synthesized and assayed for their inhibitory activities on MMP-2 and MMP-9. These derivatives were prepared via microwave assisted reaction of tert-butyl (3-cinnamamidopropyl)carbamate derivatives mixed with 2,3-dibromopropanoic acid and potassium carbonate was added to obtain 4-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-1-cinnamoyl-1,4-diazepane-2-carboxylic acid derivatives. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, NMR and mass spectroscopy. All the tested compounds showed good to excellent cytotoxic potential against A549 human lung cancer cells. The active compounds displaying good activity were further examined for the inhibitory activity against MMPs (-2 and -9). In addition, the structure and anticancer activity relationship were further supported by in silico docking studies of the active compounds against MMP-2 and MMP-9.![]()

Abstract
The enantiomer of the bicyclic lomaiviticin aglycone A core was prepared via a two-directional, divergent approach featuring (1) a double Ireland Claisen rearrangement to establish key core bonds with correct relative stereochemistry and (2) a double olefin metathesis reaction to deliver both cyclohexene rings of the target.

Abstract
The combination of PPh3/I2 has been shown to be effective for conversion of a range of carboxylic acids to 2°, 3°, and Weinreb amides. Simplification of the procedure was possible with the use of polymer-supported PPh3/I2. Weinreb amides produced via the use of polymer-supported PPh3 could be filtered through a short silica gel plug and used in further transformations. Thus, use of polymer-supported PPh3 offers potential applicability to diversity-oriented reactions. Formal total syntheses of apocynin and pratosine, as well as syntheses of anhydrolychorinone and hippadine, have been achieved via the use of this amide-forming method. An attempt has been made to gain insight into this reaction.
