Si−C Bond Activation of ArMe2SiOH Promoted by a Bromoplatinum(II) Complex and Ag2O. Aryl Group Transfer from Silicon to Platinum

Organophosphines in organoplatinum complexes: structural aspects of trans-PtP2C2 derivatives

This review summarized and analyzed the structural parameters of 174 monomeric organoplatinum complexes with an inner coordination sphere of trans-PtP2C2. These complexes crystallized in four crystal systems: hexagonal (x2), orthorhombic (x13), triclinic (x76), and monoclinic (x84). These complexes, on the basis of the coordination mode of the respective donor ligands, can be divided into the seven sub-groups: Pt(PL)2(CL)2, Pt(PL)2(η2-C2L), Pt(η2-P2L)(CL)2, Pt(PL)(η2-P,CL)(CL), Pt(η2-P,CL)2, Pt(η3-P,C,PL)(CL), and Pt(η3-C,P,CL)(PL). The chelating ligands create 4-, 5-, 6-, 16-, 17-, 18-, and 19-membered rings. The total mean values of Pt-L bond distances are 2.055 Å (C) and 2.300 Å (P). There are examples that exist in two isomeric forms and are examples of distortion isomerism. The structural parameters of trans-PtP2C2 are discussed with those of cis-PtP2C2 derivatives.

Mechanistic significance of the si-o-pd bond in the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of arylsilanolates

Through the combination of reaction kinetics (both stoichiometric and catalytic), solution- and solid-state characterization of arylpalladium(II) arylsilanolates, and computational analysis, the intermediacy of covalent adducts containing Si-O-Pd linkages in the cross-coupling reactions of arylsilanolates has been unambiguously established. Two mechanistically distinct pathways have been demonstrated: (1) transmetalation via a neutral 8-Si-4 intermediate that dominates in the absence of free silanolate (i.e., stoichiometric reactions of arylpalladium(II) arylsilanolate complexes), and (2) transmetalation via an anionic 10-Si-5 intermediate that dominates in the cross-coupling under catalytic conditions (i.e., in the presence of free silanolate). Arylpalladium(II) arylsilanolate complexes bearing various phosphine ligands have been isolated, fully characterized, and evaluated for their kinetic competence under thermal (stoichiometric) and anionic (catalytic) conditions. Comparison of the rates for thermal and anionic activation suggested, but did not prove, that intermediates containing the Si-O-Pd linkage were involved in the cross-coupling process. The isolation of a coordinatively unsaturated, T-shaped arylpalladium(II) arylsilanolate complex ligated with t-Bu3P allowed the unambiguous demonstration of the operation of both pathways involving 8-Si-4 and 10-Si-5 intermediates. Three kinetic regimes were identified: (1) with 0.5-1.0 equiv of added silanolate (with respect to arylpalladium bromide), thermal transmetalation via a neutral 8-Si-4 intermediate; (2) with 1.0-5.0 equiv of added silanolate, activated transmetalation via an anionic 10-Si-5 intermediate; and (3) with >5.0 equiv of added silanolate, concentration-independent (saturation) activated transmetalation via an anionic 10-Si-5 intermediate. Transition states for the intramolecular transmetalation of neutral (8-Si-4) and anionic (10-Si-5) intermediates have been located computationally, and the anionic pathway is favored by 1.8 kcal/mol. The energies of all intermediates and transition states are highly dependent on the configuration around the palladium atom.

Arylpalladium(II) alkenylsilanolate complexes bearing various phosphine ligands (both bidentate and monodentate) have been isolated, fully characterized, and evaluated for their kinetic competence under thermal (stoichiometric) and anionic (catalytic) conditions. Comparison of the rates for thermal and anionic activation demonstrates that intermediates containing the Si-O-Pd linkage are involved in the cross-coupling process.

Diversity-oriented synthesis of multisubstituted olefins through the sequential integration of palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. 2-pyridyldimethyl(vinyl)silane as a versatile platform for olefin synthesis

A novel strategy for the diversity-oriented synthesis of multisubstituted olefins, where 2-pyridyldimethyl(vinyl)silane functions as a versatile platform for olefin synthesis, is described. The palladium-catalyzed Heck-type coupling of 2-pyridyldimethyl(vinyl)silanes with organic iodides took place in the presence of Pd2(dba)3/tri-2-furylphosphine catalyst to give beta-substituted vinylsilanes in excellent yields. The Heck-type coupling occurred even with alpha- and beta-substituted 2-pyridyldimethyl(vinyl)silanes. The one-pot double Heck coupling of 2-pyridyldimethyl(vinyl)silane took place with two different aryl iodides to afford beta,beta-diarylated vinylsilanes in good yields. The palladium-catalyzed Hiyama-type coupling of 2-pyridyldimethyl(vinyl)silane with organic halides took place in the presence of tetrabutylammonium fluoride to give di- and trisubstituted olefins in high yields. The sequential integration of Heck-type (or double Heck) coupling and Hiyama-type coupling produced the multisubstituted olefins in regioselective, stereoselective, and diversity-oriented fashions. Especially, the one-pot sequential Heck/Hiyama coupling reaction provides an extremely facile entry into a diverse range of stereodefined multisubstituted olefins. Mechanistic considerations of both Heck-type and Hiyama-type coupling reactions are also described.
