Abstract
While the formation and breaking of transition metal (TM)-carbon bonds plays a pivotal role in the catalysis of organic compounds, the reactivity of inorganometallic species, that is, those involving the transition metal (TM)-metalloid (E) bond, is of key importance in most conversions of metalloid derivatives catalyzed by TM complexes. This Review presents the background of inorganometallic catalysis and its development over the last 15 years. The results of mechanistic studies presented in the Review are related to the occurrence of TM-E and TM-H compounds as reactive intermediates in the catalytic transformations of selected metalloids (E = B, Si, Ge, Sn, As, Sb, or Te). The Review illustrates the significance of inorganometallics in catalysis of the following processes: addition of metalloid-hydrogen and metalloid-metalloid bonds to unsaturated compounds; activation and functionalization of C-H bonds and C-X bonds with hydrometalloids and bismetalloids; activation and functionalization of C-H bonds with vinylmetalloids, metalloid halides, and sulfonates; and dehydrocoupling of hydrometalloids. This first Review on inorganometallic catalysis sums up the developments in the catalytic methods for the synthesis of organometalloid compounds and their applications in advanced organic synthesis as a part of tandem reactions.

Abstract
Bismetalated alkenes, accessible by element–element addition to alkynes, are valuable building blocks in organic synthesis, providing wide opportunities for divergent synthesis. Silaboration of alkynes with a pendant olefinic group, catalyzed by group 10 metal complexes, and subsequent transformation of the silicon and boron functional groups give access to densely functionalized 1,3-dienes and 1,3,5-trienes with defined stereo- and regiochemistry, 1,2-dienes, and carbocyclic and heterocyclic products.1 Introduction2 Background3 Reactions with 1,3-Enynes4 Cyclization 1,6-Enynes5 Cyclization 1,7-Enynes6 Cyclization of 1,n-Enynes (n > 7)7 Cyclization of Dienynes and Enediynes8 Cyclization of 1,6-Diynes9 Conclusions

Abstract
This review summarizes recent developments in the C-H-functionalization of the distal positions of pyridines, quinolines and related azaheterocycles. While the functionalization of the C2 position has been known for a long time and is facilitated by the proximity to N1, regioselective reactions in the distal positions are more difficult to achieve and have only emerged in the last decade. Recent advances in the transition metal-catalyzed distal C-H-functionalization of these synthetically-important azaheterocycles are discussed in detail, with the focus on the scope, site-selectivity and mechanistic aspects of the reactions.

Abstract
The Pt-catalyzed enantioselective diboration of terminal alkenes can be accomplished in an enantioselective fashion in the presence of chiral phosphonite ligands. Optimal procedures and the substrate scope of this transformation are fully investigated. Reaction progress kinetic analysis and kinetic isotope effects suggest that the stereodefining step in the catalytic cycle is olefin migratory insertion into a Pt-B bond. Density functional theory analysis, combined with other experimental data, suggests that the insertion reaction positions platinum at the internal carbon of the substrate. A stereochemical model for this reaction is advanced that is in line both with these features and with the crystal structure of a Pt-ligand complex.

Abstract
Through detailed calculations by density functional theory and second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) to fourth-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory including single, double, and quadruple excitations [MP4(SDQ)] methods, we investigated the oxidative addition of the B-Br bond of dibromo(trimethylsiloxy)borane [Br(2)B(OSiMe(3))] to Pt(0) and Pd(0) complexes [M(PMe(3))(2)] (M = Pt or Pd) directly yielding a trans bromoboryl complex trans-[MBr{BBr(OSiMe(3))}(PMe(3))(2)]. Two reaction pathways are found for this reaction: One is a nucleophilic attack pathway which directly leads to the trans product, and the other is a stepwise reaction pathway which occurs through successive cis oxidative addition of the B-Br bond to [M(PMe(3))(2)] and thermal cis-trans isomerization. In the Pt system, the former course occurs with a much smaller energy barrier (E(a) = 5.8 kcal/mol) than the latter one (E(a) = 20.7 kcal/mol), where the DFT-calculated E(a) value is presented hereafter. In the Pd system, only the latter course is found in which the rate-determining steps is the cis-trans isomerization with the E(a) of 15.1 kcal/mol. Interestingly, the thermal cis-trans isomerization occurs on the singlet potential energy surface against our expectation. This unexpected result is understood in terms of the strong donation ability of the boryl group. Detailed analyses of electronic processes in all these reaction steps as well as remarkable characteristic features of [Br(2)B(OSiMe(3))] are also provided.

Abstract
Novel catalytic activation of the B-B bond by palladium(II)-NHC complexes in presence of a mild base (NaOAc) and an excess of diboron reagent enables chemoselective 1,2-diboration of alkenes, suggesting the heterolytic cleavage of diboron rather than oxidative addition of a B-B bond to the metal.

Abstract
Products of the reaction of nido-1,2-(CpRuH)(2)B(3)H(7), 1, and phenylacetylene demonstrate the ways in which cluster metal and main group fragments can combine with an alkyne. Observed at 22 degrees C are (a) reduction to mu-alkylidene Ru-B bridges (isomers nido-1,2-(CpRu)(2)(1,5-mu-C{Ph}Me)B(3)H(7), 2, and nido-1,2-(CpRu)(2)(1,5-mu-C{CH(2)Ph}H)B(3)H(7), 3), (b) reduction to exo-cluster alkyl substituents on boron (nido-1,2-(CpRuH)(2)-3-CH(2)CH(2)Ph-B(3)H(6), 4), (c) cluster insertion with extrusion of a BH(2) fragment into an exo-cluster bridge (nido-1,2-(CpRu)(2)(mu-H)(mu-BH(2))-4-or-5-Ph-4,5-C(2)B(2)H(5), 5), (d) combined insertion with BH(2) extrusion and reduction (nido-1,2-(CpRu)(2)(mu-H)(mu-BH(2))-3-CH(2)CH(2)Ph-5-Ph-4,5-C(2)B(2)H(4), 6), (e) insertion and loss of borane with and without reduction (nido-1,2-(CpRu)(2)-5-Ph-4,5-C(2)B(2)H(7), 7, and isomers nido-1,2-(CpRu)(2)-3-CH(2)CH(2)Ph-4-(and-5-)Ph-C(2)B(2)H(6), 8 and 9), and (f) insertion and borane loss plus reduction (nido-1,2-(CpRu)(2)-3-(trans-CH=CHPh)-5-Ph-4,5-C(2)B(2)H(6), 10). Along with 7, 8, and 10, the reaction at 90 degrees C generates products of insertion and nido- to closo-cluster closure (closo-4-Ph-1,2-(CpRuH)(2)-4,6-C(2)B(2)H(3), 11, closo-1,2-(CpRuH)(2)-3-CH(2)CH(2)Ph-5-Ph-7-CH(2)CH(2)Ph-4,5-C(2)B(3)H(2), 12, closo-1,2-(CpRuH)(2)-5-Ph-4,5-C(2)B(3)H(4), 13, and isomers closo-1,2-(CpRuH)(2)-3-and-7-CH(2)CH(2)Ph-5-Ph-4,5-C(2)B(3)H(3), 14 and 15). The clusters with an exo-cluster bridging BH(2) groups are shown to be intermediates by demonstrating that the major products 5 and 6 rearrange to 13 and convert to 14, respectively. 14 then isomerizes to 15, thus connecting low- and high-temperature products. Finally, all available information shows that the high reactivity of 1 with alkynes can be associated with the "extra" two Ru-H hydrides on the framework of 1 which are required to meet the nido-cluster electron count.
